Sunshine Blogger Award #8

Hi loves! 🙂 It’s been such a long while since I’ve filled out one of these on my blog. I have a TON backlogged, going all the way back to May of LAST year and if I remember correctly, I made it a goal of mine to complete them all in 2020. (I know there were some other goals I made, that I may never accomplish but, oh well, I can at least try to knock this one out).

Every Thursday, from now on, you can expect to find another one of these tags on my blog. I won’t quit until I’ve gotten through each and every one! Hopefully, I have them all bookmarked but, if by the end of it, I STILL haven’t responded to something you’ve tagged me in, please, do not hesitate to LET ME KNOW… I may have accidentally let one or two slip!

Thank you to Windsofchange18 for nominating me for my 8th Sunshine Blogger Award!

Windsofchange18’s Questions

1. What is your favorite memory when you were a child?

Going to Valleyfair with the entire side of my mom’s family every summer, waking up extra early, getting there right when the park opened. We’d eat in the picnic area before going in, bringing homemade food to share and all kinds of drinks in our coolers that were tightly packed in our trunks.

When finished eating, we’d all run inside, and see how much we’d grown since the last year. We’d measure ourselves on the metal bar, that was the guidance for most of the grownup roller coasters.

My sister, cousins and I would run around the park, getting on rides with each other and our dads, while our moms would grab us treats and hold our prizes, waiting for us at the bottom of each one.

We’d go to the water park area, right in the peak of the afternoon, when the sun was beaming the brightest. Go on all the slides, except the big black one and the straight shooter which we weren’t yet tall enough for. Last on our list, was the lazy river. We’d always hold onto each other’s tubes and create “links” so we wouldn’t get separated. Our moms would have to persuade us out by getting us each a cup of Dippin’ Dots and then, we’d realize, we were hungry. They would get us back out to the picnic area for another round of food, energizing us back up again.

Afterwards, we’d be ready to run back into the park, ride more rides, play more games, and have more snacks. Our final stop was always the Berenstein Bears’ treehouse, where there was a huge area for a full out foam ball war! We wouldn’t leave until the sun set deep into the sky.

2. If you could travel to any place in the world, where would it be?

I would pick somewhere in Japan for the food, possibly Sapporo OR Amsterdam, Netherlands for the nightlife and coffee shop experience.

3. What is your favorite book?

A Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown, always and forever.

4. What season is your favorite and why?

I used to love spring until I moved to Las Vegas and started getting allergies but, the weather is definitely the best. It’s a tie with autumn now.

5. What is your favorite pass time?

Reading, writing, gaming and switching between the 3 whenever I feel like it. 🙂

6. If you could change something in your life what would it be and why?

I would change the fact that there is a deadly virus going around. I think the answer to ‘why‘ is OBVIOUS.

7. If you could bring back something that doesn’t exist anymore what would you bring back?

I know MySpace still exists but, I wish it was as fun as it was in the past. I used to love editing my page, changing the theme, even messing with coding and rewriting my about me and side bar interests over and over again. The interactions were even more exciting, with the photo comments and bulletin surveys, etc. etc.

8. When was the last time you laughed and why?

Not too long ago because boyfriend was saying some (bad) Khmer words I taught him.

9. Are you a night person or morning person?

NIGHT! Even if I’m awake in the morning, I am not “all there” until the sun goes down.

10. What is your favorite beverage?

Water! But if that doesn’t count, coffee!

11. Why do you write?

I’ve always loved writing, I don’t know why. It helps me clear my mind, fills me up with joy. Rereading what I’ve written always makes me feel good, too, it gives me a sense of pride.

  1. I’m a morning person 😒 And my answer for #7 would be LiveJournal for the same reasons you want to bring back MySpace!

This is the first time anyone has nominated me. I shall comply!

    1. Lol sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be a morning person. 😛 I had never been on LiveJournal, I wish I could’ve seen how the site was!

Yay! SO excited to read your answers! ❤

  2. Your memories from your childhood going to ValleyFair are SO precious! I love how you went into so much detail, I can tell those days meant a lot to you. They sound so much fun! Yes to Japan and Amsterdam! I feel like you and your boyfriend would have the best time in Amsterdam but one question, when you do go can I please hop over to join you for a night or two?!?!? And I miss MySpace sometimes too, it’s definitely not the same now, did you ever have Bebo and Piczo too? It’s so crazy isn’t it how one day all of a sudden, nobody went on these sites anymore. Like what happened? Msn too! Great post Hunida, thanks for sharing! Oh and congratulations too hehe ❤️

    1. Aw I miss those days at ValleyFair so much. They were definitely the highlight of my early childhood. ❤ I'm glad you enjoyed reading about it!!

YES! Absolutely. If I ever get over my fear of overseas flights, I'll let you know. 😉

MySpace was so fun lol, I used to spend so much time on my profile. I think I remember trying Bebo out for a bit but, not liking it as much. I don't remember Piczo though! & it is SO strange to think about. How did we just cut it out of our lives completely when it was such a big part for awhile? Hopefully the same doesn't happen to WordPress. 😦

      Thanks for reading, Jennie!!! ❤

      1. I bet hun! Would you ever go back as an adult? You wrote about it wonderfully!!

GOOD! You can do it hehe!!

I loved MySpace, profiles were so much fun because they were a bit more personal etc unlike facebook I think. MySpace just had way more to it… did it have status!? I can’t remember. Ooh Bebo I actually enjoyed too! Piczo was like an online website builder omg, everyone at school had them haha it was so much fun! Nothing like wordpress but such a laugh 😂 I so miss it. All the websites have been deleted now. They’d always be full of sparkly graphics like ‘welcome to my page’ 😂 it’s actually so funny looking back. There’d be pages like ‘about me’, ‘my best friends’ ‘guestbook’ etc. It was such an honour if you had your own page on someone else’s site. Like if someone had a best friends page and you made it on there, or better still, they had a best friends page and they had a whole subsection dedicated to you. I’m gonna have to start a petition to bring piczo back 😂

And omg nooo haha. I don’t think it will hun! WordPress is here to stay!

        Lots of love hun ❤️

        1. I would probably go back as an adult, yeah. I may ride a couple coasters even but not nearly as many as I did when I was a kiddo. My family still goes most summers, just not all together anymore, they all go separately now.

Oh my gosh, Piczo sounds like it was a blast lol. I totally remember those sparkly graphics, I was all about them!! I had them all over my MySpace at one point, too. I think if you never deleted your MySpace page, you could still get into it but sadly, I deleted mine. 😦 Facebook is such a bore!!

Hopefully WP is here to stay ❤

All the love right back!!! ❤

  3. Hey Hunida!! Amazing blog 🙂 I’m a bit curious about question #7 you have for your nominees! Would you say you are short/tall/average and same goes for your family??? I guess what intrigued me was I thought I was going to be tall because I was always the tallest girl in my class until I stopped growing in 6th grade. As years go by, I watch everyone else tower over me at my mere 5’2 frame. Even the shortest girl in my class ended up being a few inches taller than me. Lol… but then again my family isn’t tall and I’m taller than my mom.

    1. Hi Jenny!! Thank you for stopping by my blog. 🙂 I am happy you’ve been enjoying it!!

I’d say 5’2″ is more on the short side. 😉 & that the same goes for your family since your mom isn’t any taller. My sister is 5′ now & was actually the tallest in her grade until about 6th grade, too!

  4. You wrote about your memories of Valleyfair so beautifully! You’re a really good writer, Hunida. You know how to tell a story.

I checked Goodreads to make sure I have your favorite book on my TBR, and I do.

I had a Myspace but, kind of like me and Tumblr and me and Pinterest, I never quite understood it. LOL

I’m a total day person. As soon as the sun goes down my eyes go wonky and I’m suddenly so sleepy and just want to crawl in bed.

I don’t like to answer these questions on my own blog but I will answer a few of yours here, as you suggested.

    1. Chicken fried steak with mashed taters & gravy from Carol’s Lakeview in Cherokee Village, AR.
    2. I’ve kept a private, paper, journal since I was 8 years old! I started with one of those tiny 5-year diaries that had a little lock and key. Most of my 8-yo entries say things like “I’m bored. Today was nice. “Melodi came over to play.” I pretty much stopped keeping a private/paper journal when I started blogging, which kind of sucks because there will be a big chunk of my life that I can’t just flip through pages and read all the angsty stuff going on since I don’t put any of that in my blog.
    3. I can’t imagine myself ever getting married, but have learned to never say never, so I’ll play along. A perfect honeymoon for me would be set off on a road trip with a camping trailer thingy (no tents on the buggy ground for me, thanks) and two kayaks (I need my own space in my own kayak so he has to bring his own). I do not want to be the one driving or hitching anything up and I know nothing about camping so he has to have been an outdoorsyman his whole life. And when we are not driving or kayaking but are just sitting around in our camping trailer at night, he had better be perfectly fine with me reading or blogging and him doing whatever it is he does. I need my space and my alone time on my honeymoon. LOL You can see why I say I can’t imagine myself married.
    4. No. I basically hate people. Kidding. I would say all the people that I can stand hanging out with are ones that do all the talking so I don’t have to. Also, the people I am “drawn to” are all very kind-hearted people who care about others and the world we live in. They all have an interest in nature and/or the arts and they all like learning new things.
    5. One thing I must do every day…I suppose you mean other than daily hygiene? Blog. I’m pretty much reaching for the laptop before I’m out of bed.
    6. Oh lord god, Hunida. I would rather scrub toilets then shop. Definitely a chore that I try to get through as fast as possible. EXCEPT if I’m shopping for books.
    7. I’m 5’4″ and I consider that short. I’m adopted so I don’t know how tall or short my DNA fam is. My Mommy who raised me WAS 5’6 but at age 93 has shrunken and squished down so that I now tower over her!
    8. My handwriting is atrocious. Not pretty at all, unfortunately.
    9. I have lots of old photos and things that are special to me that I will always keep, but the first thing that comes to mind is my doll I’ve had since I was a toddler. Tickle Baby. She’s in my closet in my apartment in L.A.
    10. Shoes. Oh how I hate shopping for shoes!!! And my feet are so hard to fit that when I find a pair of shoes that fit I just wear them until they’re falling apart and then buy more of that shoe. I haven’t bought shoes in like 4 years but I think I wear a 9.5. My foot is wide at the top and narrow at the heel. Thank God it’s flip flop weather now.
    11. I blog on an HP Chromebook.

    1. Wow wow wow, thank you, that’s so so sweet of you. ❤ I am glad you enjoyed reliving my memories with me!!

Let me know if you read my favorite book. It's a long & dark one!

I've had phases with all of MySpace, Tumblr, & Pinterest lol. I would actually think you'd be a huge Pinterest lover!

Oh how fun that you answered all my questions. Thank you!!! It takes me some time to think of them & I make the same suggestion every time but not many people will actually comply lol.

I've only ever had chicken fried steak once. I'd love to try it again sometime & we just had mashed taters today. 😀

I always had a diary when I was in Elementary school, too. Then, around middle school, I started writing everything online. It's been the opposite for me, where I have NO way to find my old diaries but I am able to get online & find those ones again. How amazing that you've kept all yours physically!!!!

LOLOL you even need your own kayak, Jinjer? WHY? Then you have to do all the work! There is def a man out there that would be outdoorsy & okay with giving you your space, it's all up to you if you *want* him!! ❤ Hehe, there is a soulmate for everyone. ❤

Aw, I love what you said about the kind of people you are more drawn to. ❤ I can get along with anyone who has a kind heart, too. ❤

You totally could have said hygiene for #5. Some people don't shower or brush their teeth everyday, you know? *cringe*

Oh my gosh, you hate shopping that much??? Scrubbing the toilet is the worst. 😦 I will go shopping for you everytime if you do my toilets in exchange LOL. Shopping for books is soooo peaceful. ❤

That's super cute that you still have your Tickle Baby. I love that you've kept it!!! & I always wear the same shoes, too. I change them for the weather but not for my outfits, really. 😛 Flip flop weather is the best!!

Again, thank you for playing along!!! ❤ I had fun reading you answers!!!

  5. Cool about Valleyfair! Is that in MN??
I’ve only been to a waterpark twice in my life lol.

Yaaasssss to Japan!! I’m sure (my) Alex would love Amsterdam xD

OMG! Bring back those Myspace days! HAHA I love messing with my page too, in fact I always learned something new and would try it out on my page lol. Ugh I miss it.

I’ve shifted from being a morning person to a night person, in most recent years. I am my most productive at night! 😀

Here are my answers to your questions:

    1) Last meal? Yesterday at home. Homemade buffalo chicken wings and toast with avocado spread topped with fried egg 🙂
    2) I don’t journal anymore. I used to when I was younger. I don’t know why I stopped.
    3) Haven’t had a honeymoon. We couldn’t afford it back then. Would love to go to Japan and tour it for our 10 year anniversary but if the current situation continues, we won’t have a celebration or a trip.
    4) Not really, I’m pretty friendly with everyone. However, I have noticed I have really good relationships with Virgo’s lol. And a few Gemini’s of course 😉
    5) Read! I like to read every day 🙂
    6) Depends. If I have things to do at home I’d rather get it over with. BUT if home life is a drag I take my sweet time shopping LOL
    7) I guess I’m short? Most of my family is.
    8) My handwriting has changed LOL
    9) My Snoopy plushie. He’s actually pretty big, my bff gave it to me when he came to visit me. 🙂
    10) I switch them up to match my outfits but lately I haven’t been dressing up so my current go-to are my gray and white Converse 🙂
    11) I blog on my laptop 🙂
