Ipsy Glam Bag ULTIMATE | October 2019

Hello my fellow beauty lovers! I know I am extremely late with sharing what I got in the first ever Ipsy Glam Bag Ultimate but, you guys know I like to try out as much of it as I can (at the least, all of the makeup) before writing up these posts. I actually PAUSED all of my subscriptions for now because I haven’t touched any of my October Ipsy Plus items yet… not even one and I also have tons of other unused/unopened products from past boxes…

After seeing what came in the Ultimate, I finally decided that getting the Plus and Original bags are quite enough, and a way better deal, too. Once I get my “at-home beauty store” sorted through, I’ll resubscribe to those two but, definitely skip out on this one.

Since this was Ipsy’s very first month with their new subscription, I guess they didn’t have enough time to make a separate bag. We got the exact same one in our Plus box but, in all upcoming months, there will be 3 different sizes (for each subscription). I really wish I could’ve gotten the big cheetah print one they sent out this month! 😑

I’m also kind of annoyed the pamphlet doesn’t have the retail values of each item listed.

What Was In My Box?!

F.A.R.A.H. Brushes
Midnight Pro Trio

Ipsy’s Description

“Perfectly balanced weight, comfort grips, and a subtle midnight blue tint to the fibers–this trio of brushes is the epitome of luxury. Plus, they’re designed by a team of beauty lovers and 100% vegan and cruelty-free.”

My First Impressions

Ipsy previously sent me another single brush from this Midnight Collection by F.A.R.A.H. so, it was pretty cool to receive 3 other ones that matched.

I’m not sure if mine were squished in the bag and/or during shipping but, they were all kind of flat, instead of rounded. They made super straight harsh lines and were a little too soft and floppy. They didn’t do the best blending job, either.

Ibom
Lemon Verbena Clay Mask

Ipsy’s Description

“Made with skin-brightening lemon verbena, rice, and red bean, this clay mask removes impurities, controls excess sebum, fights inflammation, and gently exfoliates to reveal glowing skin beneath.”

My First Impressions

I have not tried this mask yet but, the packaging reminds me of Lush. I hope it does what it claims, I love lemon-scented stuff.

Cruelty-Free? Unsure
Retail Value: $19 (110 ml)

Kaleido Cosmetics
Obsidian Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner

Ipsy’s Description

“Kaleido Cosmetics is known for creating fun, fearless products that deliver rich pigments and high quality formulas. This waterproof liquid liner lasts all day–no matter how many raindrops, tears, or beads of sweat come your way.”

My First Impressions

Wow, I don’t usually wear liquid eyeliner because it smudges and is so hard to apply but, this one was amazing. It was extremely easy to draw a thin, straight line. The tip was pointy and the ink came out evenly. It dried down quickly and never moved all night.

L.O.C.K. Color
Unicorn Glow Long Wear Primer

Ipsy’s Description

“This fun-loving brand features artful packaging and smart formulas. Jojoba oil, shea butter, and chamomile give this skin-illuminating primer a healthy edge–use it for smooth, long-lasting makeup and happy, nourished skin.”

My First Impressions

I still haven’t found a primer that has made me remember to wear it so, I haven’t been excited enough to try this one yet. Honestly, my expectations are low.

Cruelty-Free? Yes
Retail Value: $12 (1.06 oz.)

Betty Boopβ„’ x ipsy
Cheek to Cheek Blush Palette

Ipsy’s Description

“This Ipster-exclusive, Betty Boop-inspired cheek palette is here to help you obsess over you. This peachy, skin-smoothing blush and highlighter trio mixes ultra-blendable matte and pearlescent finishes for a lit-from-within glow.”

My First Impressions

Every time Ipsy does a collab, the products suck! The packaging and all that is always spectacular, something you’d want to display on your vanity, but gosh… the quality is never good.

All of the shades in this palette were too dull for me, no matter how much I built them up.

Biorace
L’eau Hydrating Treatment Serum

Ipsy’s Description

“This intensive hydrating serum by Biorace locks in moisture and keeps your skin soft and supple. Ideal for all skin types, it enhances your complexion instantly and can be applied to the entire face after cleansing.”

My First Impressions

I told you, I really haven’t tried any of the skincare. I can’t wait to give this a shot, though! Sounds awesome.

Realher
Do Your Squats Eyeshadow Palette

Ipsy’s Description

“A father created this brand for his daughter–does it get any cuter than that? This palette features nine shades of soft neutrals in warm and cool tones, with a mix of shimmer and matte finishes. Each shade is long-wearing, buildable, and velvety smooth.”

My First Impressions

I was shocked how buttery smooth these shadows were. The shades are true to how they look in the pan. Super easy to blend and highly pigmented right at first swipe. There really is no kick back unless you dig your brush in there aggressively. I do think it’s rather weird that a DAD created this brand for his DAUGHTER and named a palette DO YOUR SQUATS… but, okay. The color story is perfect for those who love neutral looks and the quality is on point.

Farmacy
Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm

Ipsy’s Description

“Packed with farm-grown ingredients like sunflower and ginger root oils, and moringa and papaya extracts, this multitasking cleansing balm melts makeup and impurities to reveal smooth, glowing skin. And, it smells divine.”

My First Impressions

At first, I was really excited that this was in my box. Then, I read a review by Cleia (@Always, Cleia) saying it made her eyes blurry! Yikes! Now, I’m kind of afraid of it.

I received another makeup removing product in my Plus box and I want to try that first so, this is going into my stash for later.

The Saem
Natural Avocado & Shea Butter Mask Sheet Set

Ipsy’s Description

“The Saem is a beloved Korean beauty brand that strives to create effective skincare products using naturally-derived ingredients. This set of avocado and shea butter sheet masks deeply nourishes skin and delivers healthy hydration.”

My First Impressions

Anything that is K-Beauty, count me in. I want to try it all. I am looking forward to both of these masks.

Reflect Lip Gloss in Opulence

Ipsy’s Description

“C’est Moi Beauty believes that being you is the purest definition of beauty. Enriched with a blend of natural and organic oils, this nourishing gloss delivers a subtle, everyday shimmer and a whole lot of shine–with zero stickiness.”

My First Impressions

I love this lipgloss because it truly has NO scent. Not even a subtle one. It’s not too sticky and leaves a simple, pretty shine.

Ipsy’s Description

“This velvety-rich body cream is infused with a potent blend of six Canadian botanicals and nourishing antioxidants, vitamins, and omega acids to boost your skin’s resilience. Mood-lifting grapefruit oil perks the skin and senses.”

My First Impressions

Body lotions are probably one of my favorite things to receive in sub boxes. I’m sad it’s such a small sample but, I’m ready for my grandma-scented Vaseline crap to run out so I can try this!

Cruelty-Free? Yes
Retail Value: $75 (75 ml)

Coloured Rain Cosmetics
Eyeshadow in Glamour

Ipsy’s Description

“This velvety-smooth (and vegan!) shadow is blendable, richly pigmented, and long-wearing, so your eye look will stay strong from day to night. The best part? The foil finish, pearly hue looks *so* good on all skin tones.”

My First Impressions

Blah!! I was so mad to see this. I already received this exact shadow in a different shade in the ORIGINAL Glam Bag. I didn’t even open it because it’s going straight into my next giveaway!!

Cruelty-Free? Yes
Retail Value:
$6.99

Ipsy felt guilty about giving us the medium-sized bag instead of a big one so, they tried to compensate with an extra product.

trèStique
Good Vibes Mascara in Icelandic Black Lacquer

Ipsy’s Description

“The first-ever, all-in-one curler + lash-enhancing mascara for a curving, lengthening and volumizing effect. This curler + mascara combo defines and separates lashes, leaving them looking longer, more voluminous and with an increase in curve up to 186%. Lasts all day with zero flaking or smudging and easy to remove.”

My First Impressions

Would you EVER put your lashes into that built-in scary ass curler?? I sure did NOT, lol.

This was one of the worst mascaras I’ve ever tried. It smudged underneath my eyes terribly, it looked like I had been crying all night… THEN, it had the nerve to not freaking go away. My normal makeup removing face wash didn’t do the job, at all. It took two days of showers for it to disappear!

It made my lashes a tiny bit darker and feathery, nothing you could even tell from afar and I only used it once. I forgot to take a picture and there’s NO WAY I’m wearing it again so, sorry for the lack of a Try On photo!

Cruelty-Free? Yes
Retail Value: $25

The biggest reason I wouldn’t get this box again is because it includes sample sizes. If there were 12 full-sized products, I would, no doubt, solely get the Ultimate. The Original Glam Bag is meant to send out only samples but, most of the time, we get full-sized stuff and the Plus always has the very best brands so, that’s why I prefer those two.

If you want to sign up for any of the three, please, consider using my referral link (at no extra charge): here.

  1. Hey girl!
I too hate when they dont give the RRP, I instantly think they’re trying to hide something and that they think you’ll be too lazy to google the price.
I think the father and daughter eyeshadow pallette is such a sweet idea… but do your squats??? Honey?
Shouldn’t it be ‘do your homework’? Lol! The colours are stunning though!

    1. I honestly think they *were* trying to hide something by not including the retail values. This box didn’t total out to as much as I expected it to.

Lol, right? ‘Do Your Squats’ is such a weird name for a father/daughter brand. I did love the shades, though!

  2. I got the regular Glam Bag for October & I liked it, but I agree that the Ultimate bag should include only full-size products. The mask sounds great so I hope you like it, but that cheek palette looks terrible! Also the eyeshadow palette wouldn’t be for me since I like pops of color, but the pigment looks good! & I’m sorry the mascara was so bad!

    1. I really think the regular Glam Bag is the most worth it. You are paying so little to sample great brands & a lot of the times, they give you full-sized items! I expected more from the Ultimate… I hope they will improve it in the future.

I hope the mask is nice, too! & the blushes in the cheek palette were so dry, ugh. Absolutely terrible. The eyeshadow palette is a little bland, not a lot of people are into browns/golds as much anymore. The formula is really nice though. I hated that mascara so much, lol.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Yes I agree the regular bags are the best! I got a full-size concealer brush, single eyeshadow & lipstick in mine. The other 2 products are a cleanser & mask so 3/5 full-sized products is great!

It is their first Ultimate so hopefully they’ll improve it!

  3. Boxycharm and Ipsy seem to be offering new subscriptions left and right. It’s getting hard to keep up with all the boxes they offer.

That being said, got SO many products in this bag! I would be so annoyed if I got the same thing in multiple boxes, too.

As of right now I’m leaning towards cancelling my Boxycharm bc I’m 1 for 3 in terms of liking the boxes so far. πŸ™ˆ

    1. I know! Why are they both all of a sudden offering so many different options. It’s def getting confusing & now, I have no idea which one is the very best deal?! Ugh.

This one did have a LOT of stuff in it though. It was fun to open it all! & yeah, I guess, they don’t consider it a duplicate because the shade is different but, I am still annoyed. πŸ˜›

BoxyCharm is always so hit & miss. I was hard for me to cancel & a lot of the times, I think about resubbing lol.

    1. The packaging is really sleek & pretty but, yeah, wow, the blushes were so bad. πŸ‘ŽπŸ½ I was wondering if being in the bag may have made them flat, I’ll see if washing them changes that! Thanks for the tip! 😊

  4. It’s too bad this bag mostly let you down. I don’t know why they bother offering a premium subscription if they’re sending samples.
That real her palette name is so weird!!! If my dad told me to do my squats I’d be like ummm… Wtf dad?

That eyelash curler looks sketchy πŸ˜‚

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Right? There really was no point to the Ultimate, it seems like a bit of a scam… & oh my gosh. Glad you thought the name of the palette was weird, too! It’s one thing for your dad to tell you to stay healthy/in shape but, squats are mostly aimed at your booty… ugh, sick.

LOL, I am so confused about the lash curler. No one’s eye is that short??? Do you do section by section?! 😭

  5. Wow that Betty Boop palette does absolutely nothing! Sometimes I wonder about the whole quality control process in beauty – like how do certain products make it out into the world when they’re so bad??

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Right?? I couldn’t believe how dry & non-pigmented all the blushes were. 😭 Sometimes, I think products are purposely made bad– especially when they know it will be bought, like collab stuff like this one.

  6. I absolutely love a subscription box post! It looks like you got some pretty nice stuff in this one – I especially love the sound of the lemon and verbena face mask, they’re two of my fave scents! The Do Your Squats palette also looks like it has some lovely colours in too! xx

    1. Sub boxes are so fun to get & I love sharing them on my blog! So glad you enjoy the posts that come out of it. 😊 I still haven’t tried the mask but, it does sound like it will be wonderful! I’ve been reaching for the palette a lot, the shades are so easy to wear!

      Thanks for stopping by!! πŸ’–

  7. Lol the curse of having so many active subscriptions at once is not being able to get to them as they come haha. That’s how I got SO behind on many reviews lol.
Anyway I’m excited to see this (as I go through the post and comment as I go) I’ve been waiting for it lol. Ok.

So each sub will have a DIFFERENT bag?? So in reality, they’re making three different bags? Am I understanding that right?

Sometimes they do just throw the brushes in there and without enough bubble wrap or maybe if they get placed underneath heavier stuff, they will get flat. But sucks they werent as good.

The lemon clay mask sounds intriguing! Citrusy stuff just smells so so good lol.

That eyeliner looks so so good! Wow! Usually I hate pens because some have a rigid tip and others a super flexible one, and also your own pressure can make the eyeliner come out too thick or too thin. So for those reasons, pens have never been a favorite lol.

I cant say anything about the primer but I like the idea of it containing jojoba oil.

Ugh that Betty boop palette looks great but the shades really do look lackluster. Disappointed.

Cant wait till you try the Biorace serum, never heard of the brand before..

The RealHer palette actually looks quite stunning for a neutral palette. I had a blush palette from this brand and loved the formula but I gave it to my mom and sis because I dont use cheek palettes very much and had too many lol

Ah the farmacy cleansing balm. Super good. Yes, definitely be careful around the eyes, like if you’re gonna use it to remove eye makeup, use very little and keep your eyes closed and be gentle. Otherwise just use it for the face. It’s really really really good. I havent used mine as much because I dont wann run out 😭😭😭😭 lolololol

K Beauty is so good when it comes to sheet masks. I hope you like.those too.

The lip gloss looks pretty. Glad you like it.

Lol the very best cream, I hope it’s as good as it claims! Hopefully you run out of that other one soooon!

I still havent tried Coloured Rain, it seems like they have mixed reviews or so I’ve seen. I wonder if they put it in the box since they dont expect people to sub to all three?

Oh my gosh I got that trestique mascara in one of my boxes from boxycharm? Dont remember which one but I gave it to my mom and sister. I’ll ask them if they have tried it yet and if they experience the same thing as you, I’ll just tell them not to use it anymore and I’ll send them another from my stash.

Well that sucks that a lot of them are sampled sized. That’s disappointing. Thanks for this review, now I know what it’s like compared to their other ones. Though it is their first month so I wonder if they’re just trying it out right now.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Truly!! I want to touch everything right away but, then I’d never use anything up & forget about it all. I have to take a break from the subs for a bit. 😦 I have like two boxes full of products to get through right now lol.

Yeah, all three subs will have different bags. They just didn’t have a big one ready for us this first time, I guess.

I wonder if the brushes were meant to be flat like that or if they got squished. Anyways, they were a bit too soft & floppy for me.

I know!! I agree!! Citrusy smells are def my fave for skincare. The eyeliner pen was actually impressive as heck! It made such a nice precise line & never skipped, never smudged, & stayed on all night! The tip did bend while applying a little though.

I don’t know much about ingredients but, I do see Jojoba Oil listed a lot lol. Hope the primer is good. πŸ˜› & the Betty Boop palette is sooo sleek & cute but, the blushes are just crap… I’ll probably keep it forever just for the packaging.

I think I had heard of Biorace before? Not sure. I always forget to try serums but, I’ll try to get on it soon & let you know what I think!

The Realher palette was really good! The formula was so easy to work with & it lasted on my lids all night, with no creasing or anything.

I will remember to keep the Farmacy makeup remover for my face only, I’m scared to blur my eyes, I get panicked about my vision lol.

I really love K Beauty sheet masks/skincare in general. I wanna try it all! & I was surprised how fragrance-free the lipgloss was, like absolutely nothing. Loved it.

So annoying when anyone calls themselves “the very best” but we will see how the lotion is, haha.

I read in their FAQs that they would MAKE SURE to not give us duplicates if we were subbed to all 3 so they did expect us to do so… I think they thought since it was a different shade, it didn’t count?! I don’t know. I wasn’t a fan of the formula at all. It wore off so weird.

That Trestique mascara was the worst I’ve ever tried! I’m curious what your mom & sister have experienced with it, if you asked?

I expected them to make the first one the best, to be honest. I do think they’ll improve but, it’s always meant to be 8 full-sized & 4 sample-sized items so that sucks to me. I’d rather get the Plus & Original with 5 of each for $10 less.

      Like

      1. That’s exactly what happened to me after subbing to three different boxes. I was overwhelmed. 😦
Nice that you liked the eyeliner though, its always a good thing when they dont smudge.
Yeah I was working on today’s post yesterday and was looking at ingredients in the products and a lot of them have jojoba oil so that’s neat lol
I cannot wait to see what K Beauty products I find at the asian beauty store tomorrow hopefully I can make it back on time lol.
I think eventually I will sub to ipsy again I miss getting the makeup bags honestly lol
I havent asked my mom or sis what they thought of the makeup but soon lol.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. It really is overwhelming when you get too many boxes & it really is so rare for makeup not to smudge on me. πŸ˜› Interesting that a lot of products you like have jojoba oil! & I’m so happy we made it to the K Beauty stores last night. I hope you are able to go back to get the serum! I am so curious about it! Let me know about the Trestique mascara when you get the time to ask!

          Liked by 1 person

          1. I hope you find your HG mascara, I lot of people say drugstore ones are pretty good, mainly Covergirl, Maybelline, and L’Oreal, but two of those are not CF 😦
OMG I’m so happy you took me there, I will have to see if we have any asian beauty stores around here to see if they have similar products.I wish I would have gotten the vitamin C serum but I couldn’t justify buying another one 😦 😦 😦 😦

            Liked by 1 person

            1. Ahhh I don’t wanna buy non-CF anything, it’s too mean. 😭 Covergirl is the one that is CF, right? I was really wondering how we could tell with the Asian beauty stuff? Do you have any idea? I wanted the serum she said was for older people LOL.

              Liked by 1 person

              1. Me neither πŸ˜• there are a ton of products everyone says are good but I can’t bring myself to buy them since they’re not CF πŸ˜”
And yes. Covergirl is cruelty free!! Someone told me one of their mascaras is really good?? I have too many so I can’t justify buying another until I go through most of them. and I don’t remember the name 😫
I have no idea, but I assume most of the asian beauty products are NOT CF. I check on google or through Cruelty Free Kitty and Ethical Elephant. Let me see if I can find links to asian beauty specifically and I’ll send the links to you.

                  1. I think it was the Covergirl Lash Blast Volume mascara, I had to look it up and that’s the one that came up. Also, another drugstore fave is the Essence Lash Princess and pretty much any of their mascaras lol. they’re pretty affordable and just as inexpensive as elf cosmetics, and I bet less so than the Covergirl one.

                    Liked by 1 person

                    1. Is Essence CF as well? I’m gonna buy some drugstore ones & see how they work. I guess they’re worth a shot since they’re so inexpensive anyways. I’ll look up the Lash Blast one. Thanks!

vitamin C is good for brightening the skin, clearing up some acne and dark spots. Has lots of antioxidant benefits AND also aids the natural regeneration process, so it repairs damaged skin cells, or so the claims say LOL

    1. Lol no I haven’t tried it yet & avocados do have the same texture as some spreadable face masks so maybe it will be nice? We will see. & I am scared of that eyelash curler, too but, the mascara itself was even worse. πŸ˜›
