Boyfriend and I are probably the worst couple in the world because neither of us know our exact anniversary date… we just know it was in the first week of November so, we always say it’s on the 1st of the month. 😉 We also can’t remember if our first date was the Suicide Girls Burlesque Show or a circus show at the Xcel Energy Center.
In celebration of our 5 years together, here are FOUR (I WISH we had five) songs that we actually can agree on that are “so us” and we both really consider “our songs.“
4. BADDEST BY MACHINE GUN KELLY
OKAY, this song isn’t 100% PERFECT for us but, if you listen to the lyrics, it’s pretty close. Thankfully, boyfriend has tons more respect for me than MGK has for this girl. When we first heard Baddest, I was like, “was this written about me?“
3. AM I WRONG BY NICO & VINZ
Boyfriend was with a straight edge gal WHEN he first met me and um, just read our love story: here. The lyrics, “Am I wrong for thinking out the box from where I stay? / Am I wrong for saying that I choose another way? / So am I wrong / For thinking that we could be something for real?” were his exact thoughts. He later told me that when I used to play this song while we first started hanging out, he always felt that it was for him (but, honestly, I just really liked it at the time, lol).
2. CAROUSEL BY MELANIE MARTINEZ
When boyfriend and I met, I was NOT ready to settle into a monogamous relationship. I was having fun being single. The line, “why did you steal my cotton candy heart,” replayed in my head every time I was with him!!! And then, one night, we were at a party, dancing to this song, I’ll always remember he patted my head at the line, “you must be this tall / to ride this ride” and I swooned. To me, it felt like the line, “chasing you is like fairytale.” And now, I’m living in one?? HOW!?
1. SAY YOU WON’T LET GO BY JAMES ARTHUR
This will be our wedding song, the one we have our first dance to as husband and wife. Every single word, from beginning to end, is our love story. We went through it all. I have no shame.
