Unbelievable
Season 01, 08 Episodes

IMDb Synopsis

The true story of Marie, a teenager who was charged with lying about having been raped, and the two female detectives who followed a twisting path to arrive at the truth.

My Review

Wow, wow, wow. Unbelievable was the perfect title for this series. The actress who played Marie Adler was outstanding. She did so well in such a serious role with hard to bear scenes. I felt so many different emotions but, anger was the most recurring one; disgusted came next.

The show was extremely well done. Even having two story lines, every part was easy to follow and remember. They made a tough and complicated case, that people needed to learn about, into something we would all binge-watch. I watched from beginning to end, in one single day. I couldn’t go to sleep without seeing the end and I don’t regret it.

American Horror Story: Apocalypse
Season 08, 10 Episodes

Cosmic Book News Synopsis

“After the nuclear apocalypse, the world’s chosen elite survive in secure Outposts created by the mysterious Cooperative. On the American West Coast, Ms. Wilhemina Venable (Sarah Paulson) and Ms. Miriam Mead (Kathy Bates) run Outpost Three with an iron fist. The unexpected arrival of Michael Langdon (Cody Fern), a Cooperative representative determined to save society with a secret paradise, throws their order into chaos. However, underneath the surface of humanity’s salvation lies a battlefield for the final conflict between good and evil.”

My Review

I am, unashamedly, an absolute American Horror Story fangirl. I have loved every season uploaded to Netflix so far; I have found no faults. All of the talent, who return in different roles, excite me but… I know you hear it a lot… I cannot get enough of Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters. They seriously own my heart.

The introduction to Michael Langdon (Cody Fern) has me itching for more of him, too. His acting was phenomenal.

I was absolutely stunned by how effortlessly all of the past seasons were interwoven, leading up to this one. Season 08, Apocalypse was NUTS. The plot was mind-blowing, it had me thinking, ‘what if this really happened to the world?‘ and ‘are there actual people like that out there?I felt terrified, my heart was racing constantly. I finished all of the episodes in two days but, if I had started watching earlier on the first day, it could have easily been one. I was biting my nails and edging off my seat the entire time.

13 Reasons Why
Season 03, 13 Episodes

Fandom Synopsis

“Eight months after preventing Tyler from committing an unthinkable act at Spring Fling, Clay, Tony, Jessica, Alex, Justin, and Zach find ways to shoulder the burden of the cover-up together while helping Tyler move toward recovery. But when the aftermath of a tumultuous Homecoming game culminates in the disappearance of a football player, and Clay finds himself under police scrutiny, it’s up to a shrewd outsider to steer the group through an investigation that threatens to lay bare everyone’s deepest secrets. The stakes are raised in this riveting third season of ’13 Reasons Why,’ as the consequences of even the most well-intended actions can alter a life forever.

My Review

Okay, I’m ready for Season 04 because, that ending did NOT match up with the details given throughout the show. Everyone else caught this, right?

The THREE different timelines were way too much, and the color filter changes were annoying. I hated the greyish, eerie look– it made all of the actors appear sickly. It was difficult to keep up with everything going on and it took me a lot of time to realize which part of the story we were actually at, sometimes not catching exactly when we switched back and forth.

Some of the episodes were so outlandish, I kept saying, ‘yeah, right,’ there was no way those suspects were ‘whodunit‘. Mostly ALL of the scenes were one on one chats, the friends interviewing each other, or other people interviewing them. There was no action, just talking and SO, SO much questioning. It got tiring to watch.

I am pained to say, I did end up caring a little bit, for each and EVERY character in this show by the end of the season. (I know, I know, my heart it too soft). I wish we could just watch these kids finish high school without dealing with such a big, scary drama… but, it’s 13 Reasons Why and that will never happen for them, will it?

What series have you finished watching lately? Have we watched any of the same ones? Let’s talk about them, I need to hear all of your opinions!

  1. Omg Unbelievable is the only show I’ve ever binged watched from start to finish in one day and it was freaking INCREDIBLE. The acting, the plot – I’m def with you on feeling a rollercoaster of emotion when I watched it. I kept teetering between anger and sadness. I loved that while it was definitely a cop-detective show, the themes were so much more powerful and that it focused so heavily on the importance of having people looking out for you and the importance of people caring.

Also, I read a news piece on the show where the journalist spoke to the real Marie and she said that the actress that played her did an amazing job conveying how she felt in way that she herself couldn’t articulate verbally.

    1. It truly was an incredible series, in every single way. I’m glad I’m not the only one who watched it in one sitting, lol. Sadness was another feeling I had often. I honestly didn’t even realize it was meant to be a detective show until I realized how much I fell in love with the 2 women. ❤

I read that exact same article while snooping around, looking for a photo of the real Marie Adler but never came across one?!

  2. As someone who’s been through what Marie Adler went through in regards to the SANE check and dealing with police, I can say that it was portrayed extremely well. They missed some specifics, but the overall process they showed was pretty on point, which is fucked up. It was very hard for me to watch the first episode because of it. It took me about 3 different sessions to finish the episode, but when I did, I binged the rest. It’s a great series.

    1. Oh gosh, Bex, I couldn’t imagine going through what you did & the interrogation after, ugh. I was cringing. I’m so sorry you went through it. 😦 I’m glad you were eventually able to enjoy this series, it truly was a great one. ❤

  3. Yes ma’m. Mom and I watched Unbelieveable in one sitting, too. So good! Couldn’t stop. It is disgusting what a raped woman has to go through. So many interviews with the same questions over and over. And the horrible top to bottom, inside and out exams. This is why we say women who are raped are BRAVE to come forward. I’m so terrified of doctors and hospitals and needles I would HAVE to be brave to willingly submit to exams and blood tests after such an ordeal. F*ck these raping monsters!!!!! Ugh.

As for American Horror Story, I’ve never seen it! Sounds like I need to check it out, if I ever get through Six Feet Under. Lordy. And I do not know Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters!!!!!

I’ve only seen S1 of 13 Reasons. Do I need to add the other seasons to my TBW list?

    1. Gosh, it was insane how many times they made her retell her story. Survivors should only have to say it out loud or write it down once. I couldn’t imagine being invaded not only by my rapist but, then, by everyone else who was “helping” me. Those exams! Ugh! I can’t believe there are such sickos out there.

American Horror Story is a bit spooky… I wonder if you’d like it! The cast is so talented. I’ve never heard of Six Feet Under! & honestly, there are way better shows to watch than 13 Reasons Why, I wouldn’t blame you for not watching S2 or 3.

  4. I’ve heard so many great things about Unbelievable. I really want to watch it in the near future because it just seems like a wow story and event. I absolutely LOVE American Horror Story. No one I know really watches it because it’s so dark, haha. The acting and storylines are so phenomenal that how could you not?! Then again, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I’ve never watched 13 Reasons Why, but I read the book in high school! I’ve got mixed feelings about starting the TV show, so maybe one day.

Have you heard of the series, Dark? It’s on Netflix and its original language is German. There’s only two seasons right now, but I am SO, SO obsessed with the premise and everything about it! I just started Looking for Alaska on Hulu, and I’ve got mixed feelings about it. Although, I’ve only seen one episode so far.

    1. It is an absolutely ‘wow’ story & event. You’re going to love it when you watch it. AHS is amazing, I love that it’s so dark. ❤ The acting & storylines really are phenomenal & just so creative!!

I read the book for 13 Reasons Why in High School, too. The first season tried to follow it as much as it could, but Seasons 02 & 03 are completely different stories!

I've never heard of Dark, do they speak German the entire time/do you have to read subtitles while watching??

I read Looking For Alaska in High School & ugh, Alaska was a bad influence on me. I remember too much & I'm not sure if I'm ready for it, YET. I plan to binge-watch it eventually though.

      1. I was watching a clip of Unbelievable today, and it just infuriated me about Marie’s situation. I also get OCD about starting too many shows at once! I don’t think Stephen’s a fan of watching AHS, so I’m still on my own on that one.

I think I just refused to watch 13 Reasons Why because when it first came on, I was annoyed by people from my high school posting on social media claiming that if they knew someone going through those types of things, they would’ve said something, YET THEY AVOIDED & MADE FUN OF them. Okay, that’s my minimized rant, that is not yelled at you! Haha. It just bothered me when it happened, so I didn’t watch at the time.

Dark is in German, but they do have English audio. I think the English audio lessened the quality since the audio and video didn’t add up, so it was more distracting for me! If you don’t mind reading subtitles or out of sync wording in English, it won’t take away from the effect of it. It’s so freaking good!!

That’s so interesting to hear about Alaska! It’s interesting how they kept it set in 2005, so it’s interesting to get a refresher on the styles back then. Weirdly enough, I think that Miles is an alternative version of Chad Michael Murray, voice and looks!

        1. I get kind of OCD about starting too many shows at once, too. I always end up neglecting them all & spend my time on the most engaging one. I don’t get how people don’t like AHS, even fans of the show have so many critiques & I just don’t get it!

I know, in high school, we truly don’t know any better. Our minds are shallow & so worried about appearances as teenagers. It’s not until we grow up & realize how terrible we were that we say “I would’ve said something!” Like, yeah, maybe now you would have but, back then? NEVER. I totally get why that annoyed you.

Ugh I wanna watch Dark but, I hate when the subtitles don’t match the words & I always watch with subtitles (even with English audio) lol.

Oh! That’s cool that they’ve kept the story in 2005 & didn’t change it to be more 2019. I LOVE Chad Michael Murray. I will definitely watch the series eventually.

          1. That’s how I am usually with shows too, haha. I guess AHS just is too dark for people or something. I know my sister or cousin would never watch it! They think I’m the weirdo for watching it, how rude.

That’s so funny because I remember how you had people who always had subtitles on and those that didn’t. I’m one that doesn’t, but when I’m watching foreign shows, I don’t mind them. Awh, maybe you’ll give it a chance someday, but it’s so fun to listen to the German language and learn a few words here and there!

Stephen noticed that there’s an indy version of that Milkshake song that was so popular and I like the way the guy sings it! So that was pretty cool to do an indy cover to incorporate it. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it! After listening to whoever the actor is that plays Miles, that’s literally all I see now!

            1. Lol aw that is rude but, I totally get how AHS could be too dark for some people. That makes sense.

I love that you are learning German words while watching the show, that’s so cute lol & that makes me so happy you remember that post about subtitles. 🙂 ❤

Oh! Whenever I watch it, I'll have to remember to look up the indie version of the Milkshake song! I wonder if I'll see Chad Michael Murray in him now that you mention it. I'll let ya know, hehe. 😉

  5. I’ve heard about Unbelievable & I think I need to set aside a day to watch it now.
Also it’s great to hear that you loved Apocalypse! I haven’t started watching it yet but I will soon.
& I’m on episode 9 of the new season of 13 Reasons Why & it’s taking me forever to get through it..I agree all the timelines are too much & I miss the action!

    1. Gosh, Unbelievable was insane. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it, if you do end up watching it! Apocalypse is so WILD! You’re gonna love it! & it really took me forever to finally get through 13RW. It’s so confusing!

  6. I watched half of the first episode of Unbelievable and haven’t gone back to it yet. But I’ve also heard good things about it.

I just started season three of How To Get Away With Murder and I’m obsessed with it!

    1. I checked her IMDb & she has been in quite a bit of things I’ve seen, I knew it wasn’t my first time watching her! I’ll def have to check out Booksmart, I hadn’t heard of that one. Thank you for your recommendation, Rosie! ❤

  7. We’ve just finished Orange is the New Black Season 7 and I loved it – it had some mixed reviews but I honestly think it was my favourite season. We’re moving on to the new Thirteen Reasons Why next – I haven’t heard too much about it but I’m rather intrigued by the whole plot line of the new season so I think it’s worth a watch! x

  8. I will be sure to check out Unbelievable because I want more shows to watch on Netflix.
I havent really watched much of AHS, I think the only one I watched was the witches one years ago because a friend recommended it and it was cool to watch.
I was annoyed at all the talk and how much Clay changed, going around and blaming everybody like calm the fuck down this isnt you lol. I was eh about it too, I actually didnt like how the season ended. I hated the fact that he got pushed into the river because he was running his mouth. Like all the progress we were seeing in Bryce up until the end didnt matter one bit, he went from nice Bryce, “you’re a good man Bryce” to “asshole Bryce” in .2 seconds 🙄 if they were gonna use that as an excuse for Alex to push him over then why the FUCK DID WE WASTE OUR TIME WATCHING HIM BECOME “A BETTER MAN”??!! it was stupid. And the way they helped Alex become innocent by pinning it onto Monty. I’ll be honest, Monty was one of my LEAST fave characters, but he did NOT deserve that.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Unbelievable was really, really good. I think you’d like it. It’s a quick watch, too, easy to finish in a day or two.

You’ve gotta watch AHS from the first season, oh my gosh. It’s the best show, ever.

I KNOW! I mean, I get why Clay was worried, because he didn’t want it pinned on him but… seriously, every scene was a one on one chat between two different characters, it got so repetitive & boring.

I agree. I was hoping Bryce had truly changed but, turns out he didn’t. I love Alex, I just had a feeling it was him the entire time. Monty didn’t deserve it… but, honestly, he was already in prison & now, dead… so it was smart of them to pin it on him & the best case scenario for everyone. I’m still so confused about the gunshot in Bryce’s head though.

      1. Haha yay for binge watching lol.
I may have to do so since every one is always raving about AHS haha
Yes it really did….they better change it up for the 4th season if they plan on going for one more 🙄
Well that’s the thing.. Bryce HAD changed. It showed through his actions, trying to make amends with some people and even helping some people out (Tyler, omg my heart!)
Yeah he was already in there and thats why they pinned it on him. But imagine if he had been alive?? That would have been worse. And the way they ended it, was like “oh yay its finally over”… doubt it.. it’s gonna come back go hunt them once again because these people have the weirdest lives ever haha

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Ugh yes, AHS deserves even more hype than it gets. It’s so good. I do think Bryce had changed, too & I actually started to like him & Ani together, honestly. It sucks he had to die. I felt so sad for his mom & grandpa. 😦 It would have been totally fucked up if Monty didn’t die… but you can tell, even Alex’s dad knows it was him so he’ll never get in trouble with his dad as the cop. It will come back to haunt them somehow though LOL they really do have the weirdest lives. I’m ready for season 04!!

          Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh my gosh, so glad you liked AHS: Apocalypse. It was super mind blowing, right?! I was sad about those two things in the timeline, too, but like she said, some things had to go back to the way it was. 😭

  9. I love that all of these are on Netflix since we don’t have Hulu, lol. I haven’t watched any of these yet, so I’ll have to look them up. Though I don’t think I’ll watch 13 Reasons Why, that sounds really heartbreaking.
