Ipsy Glam Bag | October 2019

Hello my fellow beauty lovers! October was the first month I paid the new price of $12 (+tax) for my Ipsy Glam Bag. I’ve dipped into (almost) everything I received, so let’s talk about if it was worth it.

First of all, they changed their signature dark pink envelope to this “millennial pink” one with IPSY written in the middle and “Discover Yourself” on the flap. I really thought it was weird for them to change something they were so well known for but, I can’t deny, it is cute… just, oh, so modern.

The makeup bag this month was THE best!! Betty Boop is such an icon— I’ve always freakin’ loved her and I was so excited to see this collaboration. ❤

What Was In My Bag?!

Benefit Cosmetics
They’re Real! Lengthening Mascara in Jet Black

Ipsy’s Description

“Founded by two sisters in San Francisco, this quirky brand puts the fun back in makeup without sacrificing any of the quality. This multitasking mascara helps curl, separate, lift, and volumize with staggered bristles that grip your lashes close to the root, coating even the teeniest ones.”

My First Impressions

I’ve tried a sample of this mascara before and experienced a lot of constant smudging throughout the day. Hopefully, it’ll work better for whoever wins my next giveaway.

Loose Eyeshadow in Byron Bay

Ipsy’s Description

“The loose pigment shadow is richly pigmented and blendable, so you can go for a subtle sweep of color or a full-on opaque finish. It’s also super long-wearing, so your eye look will stay on point from A.M. to after hours. And it’s versatile! The warm gold hue looks great on all skin tones.”

My First Impressions

What a mess! Even before removing all of the stickers, the loose pigment was seeping out of the cap. I usually wouldn’t bother with this formula but, I was wondering how this seemingly pink powder was described as a gold one and I’m always curious about new brands I’ve never tried.

When applied, the rosy tint doesn’t disappear but, a golden hue does show up. It’s quite pretty. Sadly, the shadow isn’t easy to blend, it goes on unevenly and rather patchy, and is very subtle. While, yes, it is buildable, it takes a LOT of time and patience. It may look outstanding if you were to wet your brush first though. I will also say, there was no fallout below my eyes during application and it lasted throughout the night, even if it faded a little, it did so, gracefully.

Betty Boop™ x ipsy
Lipgloss in All Jazzed Up

Ipsy’s Description

“Introducing our limited-edition collection in partnership with iconic beauty muse Betty Boop. This translucent gloss with ultraviolet tint can be worn alone or over your favorite lipsticks. Plus, it’s longlasting and not the least bit sticky, so you can wear it comfortably all day.”

My First Impressions

I want the entire Betty Boop collection and lipglosses are my #1 favorite makeup product, so no complaints here. It has that traditional coconut-sugary scent but, it’s not sickening or overbearing. It’s gooey, as all glosses should be, but it’s not sticky or stringy. It felt comfortable on my lips, I forgot I was even wearing it! There are chunky sparkles and the shine is definitely noticeable.

Crown Brush
CB202 – Pro Chisel Fluff & Precision Crease Brush

Ipsy’s Description

“Crown Brush is a global leader in the brush making business. The dual-ended shadow brush has both fluffy and pointy tips, so you can apply shadows all over, blend into your eye crease, and add dimension with one multitasking tool.”

My First Impressions

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I don’t really like brushes that are double-ended like this. I don’t know how to store them when all of my other ones are the same direction, y’know? Nonetheless, I’ve always wanted to try a Crown Brush. The black and gold, the crown logo, everything about the brand screams luxurious but, their prices are actually totally affordable.

I used the Fluff side to apply the loose pigment shadow by Leni (above). It really held onto the product, almost stealing too much of it, but the color was distributed effortlessly. The bristles were soft yet, not too floppy and the handle sat nicely in my hand.

Buff Sugar Lip Scrub in Bright & Bubbly

Ipsy’s Description

“Fact: This lip scrub will help your lipstick last longer and look better, thanks to exfoliating sugar crystals, moisturizing shea butter, and restorative Vitamin C. And cheers to the sweet pink champagne flavor–we can’t resist reapplying every chance we get.”

My First Impressions

Oh my gosh, I was hoping to get a lip scrub!! I almost went to the store and bought my own, thinking ‘sub boxes never send them to me anyways‘ but, the one I wanted was sold out. Now, I know it was because this delicious one was on its way to me.

When I first opened the cap, my mouth watered. This scrub smells just like watermelon candy. I was overwhelmed with the urge to lick it and I promise, I actually held back, until one little crystal fell into my mouth. I was NOT surprised to find out, it tasted like a piece of watermelon-flavored sugar but, a bit soapy? It wasn’t bad enough to spit out or feel sick over but, it wasn’t so good I’d lick it out of the jar.

I’ve only used it on my lips once and it was enough to see a difference. They were non-chapped and wonderfully hydrated right away, they stayed that way for a few days afterwards, too. It definitely did what it was supposed to, I’m so happy I got it!

I’m still having a hard time deciding which Ipsy subscriptions I’ll be keeping versus canceling. They are all such unbeatable deals, I can’t help but want all 3, every single month. It’s just, honestly, way more products than probably ANYONE needs and I already have about a whole store’s worth of other unopened products to get to… so we’ll see what I do when November comes around. I need to figure it out quickly before I let them “accidentally” charge my card again, LOL. 😉

Are you subscribed to any of the Ipsy subscriptions? Which one would you be interested in the most?

If you’re thinking about signing up (for any of them), go ahead and use my referral link: here.

    1. Isn’t it so cute? I’m in love with the lip scrub & the gloss isn’t so bad either. 🙂 The only people who probably don’t mind double-ended brushes are people who hang theirs or something lol.

  1. Omg that lip scrub sounds so good! I’ve been needing / wanting a lip scrub since being on holiday my lips got so dry! This one sounds perfect 😍 happy it worked for you Hunida!!! ❤️ Also, I don’t really rate the Benefit mascaras. I think for the price, I can get ones that are just as good much cheaper! I haven’t tried ‘they’re real’ though, so maybe that one would surprise me! Can’t wait to see what subscriptions etc you end up deciding on, hun!

    1. The lip scrub really smells so yummy! I hope you find one that works for you. 🙂 I’ve been wanting to try a lip mask next, lol.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of Benefit at all but, I have read many good reviews on this mascara & all of their other products. 😛 I think I’ve decided to keep this subscription & the Plus for November!

    1. I think I’ll be keeping my subscription to the regular bag, too. It’s too good of a deal! The Benefit mascara really isn’t the best, I’m happy to know I’m not the only one who didn’t like it.

  2. Omg I love the Betty Boop bag and the gloss looks so lovely! I haven’t seen the rest of the collection, but I’ll have to check it out.

Double-edged brushes can be annoying to store, but I do love them for travel. I tend to store them fluffy side up LOL! That lip scrub looks and sounds amazing, too.

I don’t have IPSY but I was considering signing up for the $25/month subscription. I ended up going with Boxycharm but have mixed feelings – one month I LOVED and one month I only liked 2/5 things I got. I signed up for a 6-month membership so I’ll jace to see how the rest of the months go!

    1. Isn’t the Betty Boop bag so cute? I love it! & the gloss was actually nice. I was honestly not expecting it to be because usually, Ipsy collabs are just for show & packaging lol. 😛 I got two other pieces from the collection in my other boxes but, I wish I would’ve got more from it.

I wanna get one of those brush holders where the brushes are hanging up by the middle of their body, y’know? so I can easily store these double-ended ones. I usually do fluffy side up, too!

Okay, you’re going to think I’m crazy but, I don’t like doing more than month-to-month with sub boxes because then I feel like they can throw in annoying stuff since they’ve already got you & then the last one is super good so you renew! LOL. I like Ipsy a little more than Boxy but, ugh, Boxy is tempting me to come back with their e-mails all the time. I want a couple things in the November box already!!

  3. The Betty Boop bag is totally cutee and so iconic. I typically dont like loose eyeshadows either and I dont reach for them, like ever. The lip gloss swatches beautifully!
Dont like double ended brushes either. 😕
Cant wait to see your other bags 😁

    1. I loved the Betty Boop collab. She’s such a cutie lol. I don’t think I’ll ever open another loose eyeshadow. I never reach for them, either. I did like the lipgloss, though! It’s nice & simple. 🙂 & double-ended brushes are weird… not sure anyone really likes them, right? They’re hard to store.

I’ll have the other two boxes up sometime next month!! There’s too much to try lol.

    1. I had received a lip scrub in a cruelty-free beauty sub box one but, back then… I had no idea how to use them LOL. I left them on my lips like a chapstick hahaha. This one is really nice though, it has helped my lips a lot. 🙂
