Ipsy Glam Bag | September 2019

Hello my fellow beauty lovers!! I’m here to discuss the September 2019 Ipsy Glam Bag. It IS a little upsetting that these sample bags will be going up in price by $2, and honestly, that’s enough to make me wanna cancel. I WILL be getting next month’s bag, just to see how much better it is, but it’ll probably be my last one for awhile.

Ipsy has announced that they will be including makeup bags in every subscription they offer now so, there’s really no use for me to keep it, even though each bag will be designed differently (starting in November).

I will be getting ALL THREE (Ultimate, Plus, and OG) in October because I’m super curious about the changes and I want to see if they really are serious about not sending duplicates. From there, I’ll decide which subscription(s) I’m going to keep or cancel.

Okay, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, enough of that jibber jabber. Let’s get into this month’s bag!

The bag this month was SO cute, it is definitely in my Top 5 favorite designs so far. I loved the vintage fade, the salmon color, the constellations, and most of all, I loved the mini crystal zipper!!

What Was In My Bag?!

Theme: Find Your Light / North Star

Skin&Co. Roma
Truffle Therapy Shimmering Oil

Ipsy’s Description

Based in Umbria, Italy, this brand’s products are made by one of the world’s largest truffle producers. The nourishing dry oil mines the antioxidant-rich properties of black winter truffles to protect, moisturize, and boost your skin’s radiance. Bonus: It’s great for all skin types.

My First Impressions

I’m really not into this scent. It burns my nose… I can’t explain it. I rubbed some of the oil into my hand and the sparkles were really subtle. I didn’t like the oily feeling, they’re not any softer or any more moisturized. I was not taking the risk of applying it to my face and due to the scent, I never will.

Smashbox Cosmetics
Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Hydrating Foundation in 3.18 Neutral

Ipsy’s Description

This oil-free, matte finish, medium-to-full coverage foundation is formulated with hyaluronic acid and vitamin E to even out your skin without settling into pores or fine lines. The best part? It lasts a full 24 hours–no touch-ups required.

My First Impressions

Ipsy and the mini tube says it lasts 24 hours but, in the name on the card, it only says 15? I’m confused. I’ve never worn my foundation for longer than, maybe 12 hours so, either way is fine with me.

The shade actually really worked for me. I thought it would be too dark at first but, I was pleasantly surprised how well it blended into my skin. The formula was thin, a lot runnier than I prefer and it smells really terrible… like, a freshly cleaned pool? Super chemical-y. It was also a bit sticky and hard to spread without a primer underneath but, paired with a primer (like in my ‘Try On’ photo below) it slid across my face evenly and beautifully. I was happy with the matte finish and nearly full-coverage; my blackheads around my nose needed a bit more, though.

Coloured Raine Cosmetics
Eyeshadow in Champagne Life

Ipsy’s Description

The velvety smooth (and vegan!) shadow is ultra-blendable, richly pigmented, and long-wearing, so your eye look will stay strong from happy hour to after hours. The best part? The foil finish, champagne hue looks *so* good on literally all skin tones.

My First Impressions

I was impressed with the swatch and the way the shadow felt on my finger. It was that almost-wet feeling. One swipe was already extremely pigmented and using a brush, the color was easily picked up with barely any fallout at all. It was blendable, buildable, and super pretty… it just wasn’t very long-lasting and did not fade gracefully. The middles went first, leaving patches of the golden color and sparkles in a weird smudged up circle.

F.A.R.A.H. Brushes
Contour 218M

Ipsy’s Description

This brand’s goal? To create luxurious, high-quality, vegan and cruelty-free products. With midnight blue bristles, this soft contour brush blends your powders, creams, and highlighters evenly and easily–and looks fab in your brush jar too.

My First Impressions

That midnight blue on the bristles is gorgeous! The handle reminded me of a Luxie brush I had gotten before, it’s super chic and has a fancy feel. The brush is soft, great for blending and it makes precise, straight lines. If you are a contour lover, this one is for you!

Ofra Cosmetics
Ofra x Madison Smiley for Ryleigh Lip Gloss

Ipsy’s Description

This limited-edition collab between beauty guru Ofra Gaito and beauty/lifestyle vlogger Madison Miller gives us highly-pigmented shadows, glosses, blushes, and beyond. This frosty gloss leaves lips with a hint of shimmer and doesn’t feel the least bit sticky.

My First Impressions

Eh, it smelled like the Lip Smackers glosses I used to wear as a kiddo and I wasn’t that impressed with the shine or sparkle. I liked the frosty look it gave at first but, it blended in and became completely clear right away. I don’t see anything special about this lipgloss over any other ones. Please, no more Ofra!

Okay, well, THREE out of the five products were full-sized and every single one was CRUELTY-FREE so it makes sense why they want to charge a little more now. How can I cancel if they keep this up?! What do you think of the products I got?!

  1. That bag is the cutest! Also I’m starting to need a new foundation and I kinda want to give that Smashbox one a try.
I couldn’t even tell there was blue on the contour brush, I had to do a double take. πŸ™ƒ

    1. I really do love the bag & the Smashbox foundation has nice coverage & a smooth finish but, it’s really runny & smelly. Make sure you have a nice primer for underneath, too! πŸ™‚ The blue on the brush was very subtle. It’s definitely more noticeable in real life!

  2. Everything looks really nice although too bad about the shadow cuz it really is lovely. The bag design is pretty. I like to crystal touch on the zipper, but the design is very similar to a bag I got in a November Ipsy a couple years ago with the whole constellation theme.

  3. That bag looks sooo cute! I’m very intrigued by Coloured Raine products. I know Target carries a few of their items, but I haven’t taken the plunge and bought anything yet!

    1. Right? I am so in love with the bag. ❀ I had never heard of Coloured Raine products before. I didn't expect they'd be sold at Target– It seemed like an online-only indie brand to me! πŸ˜› I'd def be interested to see if you did buy some things by them!

  4. Omg I chuckled when I saw the Ofra gloss lol! I feel no one bought that recent collab because the only people I hear talking about the products are those that received items in the collection in subscription boxes!

Also, what a strange smell and consistency for that primer. I can’t stand when makeup smells overly chemically.

I’m so surprised about the longevity of the Coloured Raine shadows because the formula is always so raved about, but I wouldn’t not want to wear a shadow that would fade away like that.

    1. Ugh, the Ofra gloss was honestly so lame. πŸ˜› That sucks that no one bought it, maybe people just decided to get the subscription because they knew it was going to be in it?

Yeah, that Smashbox foundation smells reeeeally terrible. I took a risk by putting it on my face but I haven’t had any bad reactions or anything.

I had never heard of Coloured Raine before! I thought they were some type of Colourpop knockoff LOL. I was not happy with how the eyeshadow wore off. I’ll probably just have to get rid of it!

  5. That bag is really pretty! Plus, it looks like you got some pretty good products! That foundation looks great on you! The eyeshadow looks pretty… too bad it didn’t last the greatest… the brush looks nice.. and the gloss would pair nicely over a lip liner or lipstick I would imagine. Overall, a nice bag this month!

    1. I really love the bag, too & was so happy with the products this month. πŸ™‚ Thank you about the foundation! ❀ I was disappointed in the eyeshadow & lipgloss but, I will try it over a lipstick now. Thanks for the idea! ❀

  6. I’ve had the September bag for like almost a month now & I still haven’t tried everything. I need to get on that. lol I’m not a big fan of face oils. I’ve tried to use them, but I just hate that oily feeling on my skin too. Plus I have a habit of touching my face (bad, I know) and then the oil gets on my hands/fingers.

I received that brand of eyeshadow in my bag but in a different shade. It came broken so I had to request another, which they sent me. The shade is a bit too light for me though, I think.

I also received that Smashbox foundation, and I love it. The shade they sent me fits my skin perfectly, and the foundation blends nicely without looking too cakey or streaky.

    1. I miss comparing our bags each month! Did you stay subscribed for Oct? I am so happy I am not the only one who feels that way about the face oils, they are icky!

Aw, that’s annoying that it was broken but, at least their customer service is so good & you got a new one!

I was really impressed how much the foundation matched my skin! I’m glad they gave you one that was perfect for you, too! It is really easy to blend & has a beautiful finish, but, doesn’t it smell so bad??

  7. Omg I want to subscribe just to get that bag 😭😭😭
I have some spray thing from Skin & Roma I actually havent tried it, I really must. I dont remember if its similar to this one.
That’s good the foundation sat nicely on your skin and provided good coverage.
Oh man I got all excited when I saw Coloured Raine… too bad it didnt have good wear…
The lip gloss looks a bit sad from my end too lol.

    1. The bag was perfect for you!! πŸ’–

I’ve gotten two different products from Skin&Roma & they both had the same scent. I wonder if your spray does, too. Let me know if you end up trying it!

I was impressed with the foundation! & it was the first time I heard of Coloured Raine. Maybe a primer or setting spray could help the shadow last longer? It faded away so weirdly… πŸ€” & glad you agree about the lipgloss, I’ve been reading a lot of positive reviews on it. (?) Lol.

      1. The product I have by SKin&Roma is an illuminating skin refresh mist, feels nice on the skin. Im not really sure how to describe the scent that this one has, it’s not incredibly strong, super duper subtle, but I guess I’d say it leans more towards “botanical” scents LOL I mean it has botanical extracts and well…that could also mean a lot of things? LOL
Sometimes primers do make a difference so definitely give it a try and see. If you dont own an eyeshadow primer try getting one from WnW or Essence. They’re the most affordable ones.

        1. Ooo, that sounds like an interesting product. Illuminating skin mist? I wanna try lol & ‘botanical’ is a pretty good word to describe the scent. Let’s go with that. πŸ˜› I’ve only ever tried UD Eyeshadow primer, otherwise I just put my concealer on my lids or use a face primer lol.

          1. I still havent used it daily just every once in a while haha
Concealer works too! Sometimes for me though concealer can make my lids dry and the powders dont blend well lol. Then again it also depends on what I use to set it. It’s terrible lol.

            Liked by 1 person

              1. You can try? For some people it doesn’t make a huge difference I guess but it all depends on skin type. If you do end up setting your concealer under your eyes, USE THE BECCA POWDERRR!! LOL trust me. My makeup doesn’t crease as much when I use that one πŸ™‚ I only use powder to set around my nose where my glasses sit so when I take them off, my makeup doesn’t come off with them LOL. for the rest of my face I use a setting spray πŸ™‚
let me know if setting your concealer makes a difference for you πŸ™‚

                Liked by 1 person

                    1. I’ve been using the Becca Powder as an all over setting powder after my whole face is done!! My inside cap broke though so it doesn’t seem to feel wet any more 😦
