Goodreads Synopsis:

“Laura Lochner has never been lucky in love. She falls too hard and too fast, always choosing the wrong men. Devastated by the end of her last relationship, she fled her Wall Street job and New York City apartment for her sister’s home in the Connecticut suburb where they both grew up. Though still haunted by the tragedy that’s defined her entire life, Laura is determined to take one more chance on love with a man she’s met on an Internet dating site.

Rosie Ferro has spent most of her life worrying about her troubled sister. Fearless but fragile, Laura has always walked an emotional tightrope, and Rosie has always been there to catch her. Laura’s return, under mysterious circumstances, has cast a shadow over Rosie’s peaceful life with her husband and young son – a shadow that grows darker as Laura leaves the house for her blind date.

When Laura does not return home the following morning, Rosie fears the worst. She’s not responding to calls or texts, and she’s left no information about the man she planned to meet. As Rosie begins a desperate search to find her sister, she is not just worried about what this man might have done to Laura. She’s worried about what Laura may have done to him…”

How can I even put into words what I thought of The Night Before? Wow. Wendy Walker told a magnificently clever story.

Usually, I can’t stand reading in third person but, Rosie’s chapters were just as engaging and insightful as Laura’s. Their love and protection over each other was undeniable and so strong throughout every page. No matter what happened, we knew they were going to stick together. It was beautiful.

The pacing of the story was fast, just how I like it. There was action, action, action, at times, I could actually feel my heart racing and pumping hard against my chest. I always thought I knew who wasn’t guilty but, I could never guess who was. I gasped out loud, cringed, and almost cried a thousand times. I was caught up in this plot and dying to reach the end. The past, present, seemingly useless chapters… it was all woven together so perfectly and each character played a part. Big or small.

Dates Read: Sept. 15-Sept. 21, 2019
My Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Her good intentions were always overcome by the desire and longing that were never satisfied.

I wish I had her magic potion for being happy. I wish there was a recipe for it. But then again, I would be the one person to measure wrong.

People could hide. And hide well. Even the people you love the most.
