Empties & Discards #2

Hey there fellow beauty lovers!! I’m finally back, after 4 months of hoarding (or, at least, trying my best to), to show you MORE of my Empties & Discards. ๐Ÿ™‚ Being only my second post in this series, I wasn’t the very best about keeping ALL of my trash. I have a feeling I threw quite a lot of stuff away without a second thought. I will try harder for my third round, I promise!

If you missed it, READ: My First Empties & Discards

EMPTIES

NAILS

  • Equate Beauty – 100% Pure Cotton Jumbo Cotton Balls

Very stringy and always pulled and stuck to my nails.

Repurchase? No

  • Up&Up – Strengthening Nail Polish Remover

Not the strongest remover. Two fully soaked cotton balls were needed to remove polish from my one big toe.

Repurchase? No

  • Sally Hansen – Complete Care 7-in-1 Nail Treatment

I loved this as a top coat, it made every manicure look professionally shiny and it dried super fast. Towards the end of the bottle, it got super annoyingly sticky.

Repurchase? Maybe

SKINCARE

  • Feel Balanced – Moisture Balancing Cream

Even though this cream claimed to be okay for my face, I only applied it to my body since it has a strong scent. When I first started using it, I DID notice my skin wasn’t as succulent as it had been before, but I wanted to finish the bottle. When I finally started using new stuff, I realized how much I had let it dry me out.

Repurchase? Heck no

  • Marianella – Crystal Collagen 24K Gold Powder Eye Mask

Please note: I know, for a fact, I actually should have TWO of these wrappers but, whatever, lol. ๐Ÿ˜›

These masks are so fragile and rip apart if you grab them with your nails but, for those who say eye masks are too slippy slidey– try these, they do not move at all. I can’t say I see immediate results but, I know with these sort of products, you need to repeatedly use them and for awhile, too. I had no bad reactions, though, and that’s really good for me!

Repurchase? If results are seen after using my last three

  • Biorace – Intense Hydrating Spirulina Mask

Very snug, mess-free, and hydrating!

Repurchase? Yes

  • Biore – The Original Deep Cleansing Nose Strips

I found a few of these when I was cleaning up and decided to use one. Have they always hurt so much?? I was crying when I peeled mine off but, it’s so satisfying to see how much it cleans out.

Repurchase? No

  • Ariul – Stress Relieving Purefull Cleansing Tissues

Super refreshing, made my skin bright and instantly clean.

Repurchase? Yes, please

  • GLAMGLOW – Bubblesheet Oxygenating Deep Cleanse Mask

I really thought this was fun but, not one to use while relaxing! I noticed how it cleared my skin right away and I would like to use it more often than the directions allow.

Repurchase? Yes

HYGIENE

  • Signature Care – Sensitive Wipes

A bit too thin and wet.

Repurchase? No

  • The Honest Co. – Honest Wipes Premium Plant-Based Cleansing Cloths

Nice and thick, perfectly moist.

Repurchase? Yes

  • CVS Health – Ultra-Soft Fragrance Free Wipes

They’re a little thin and don’t clean up that well. Many wipes are needed for one job.

Repurchase? No

  • Tom’s of MaineAntiplaque & Whitening Toothpaste in Peppermint and Whole Care Toothpaste in Peppermint

Boyfriend and I only love the Antiplaque & Whitening one, we can’t use ANY other toothpastes.

Repurchase? Yes and No

  • Target’s Hot Spot – Mini Hand Sanitizer in Lemon

It had little beads and smelled yummy.

Repurchase? Yes

  • Kroger – Cotton Swabs

Liked ’em better than the ones we have now.

Repurchase? Yes

  • Old Spice – Mini Pure Sport Deodorant

I don’t know, I still sweat and smelled through it but, it was small so I used it all. The scent was nice before I ruined it. ๐Ÿ˜›

Repurchase? No

MAKEUP

  • IT Cosmetics – Superhero Mascara in Super Black

This was my first tube of this mascara. I loved the dramatic effect it creates with one swipe but it was a bit messy.

Repurchase? Maybe

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills – Clear Brow Gel

It worked to keep my brow hairs neat and combed down but, when it dried up, it became disgusting and impossible to work with.

Repurchase? No

  • Tarte – Amazonian Clay Waterproof 12H Concealer in Tan (x3)

I told you it was my favorite.

Repurchase? Yes

  • Il Makiage – Icon High Volume & Intense Curl Mascara in Black

Didn’t love it but, I did like it.

Repurchase? No

  • Sephora Collection – Lashcraft Length & Volume Mascara in Noir (x2)

Used to be my go-to mascara but, I’ve finally moved on and found better.

Repurchase? No

TOOLS (Should these be Empties or Discards?)

  • Real Techniques – Miracle Complexion Sponge

I just want a new one.

Repurchase? Yes

  • C. Wonder – Blending Sponges (x2)

Very big and not that bouncy.

Repurchase? No

  • Popu – House-Shaped Makeup Sponge

I actually probably went through 4 or 5 of these already. They’re kind of useless, to be honest.

Repurchase? No

  • Sigma Buffer F45 Brush

The bristles keep falling out all over my face! It was fine before I ever washed it but, ever since the first time, it gets worse and worse.

Repurchase? No

Discards

  • Kandee Johnson x Purlisse – Butter Me Orange Creamsicle Body Butter *I still haven’t recovered from the eczema patch this created on my stomach.
  • Facial Cleansing Brush *Could not even get it to move across my face, lol.
  • Drunk Elephant – Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser *Broke me the heck out.
  • Seraphine Botanicals – Imperial Mini Mascara *Way too wet.
  • Tarte – Base Tape Hydrating Primer *Also, broke me the heck out.
  • Tatcha – Camellia Gold Spun Lip Balm *I really tried to use this, there’s quite a deep dig in there but, it made my lips crack and hurt after awhile!
  • Pixi Beauty – H2O Skin Drink *Another thing that broke me out…
  • Drunk Elephant – Protini Polypeptide Face Cream *Same as above.
  • Bang Beauty – Eyeliner in Chocolate *Chunky and sticky, yuck!
  • Ciate London – Eye Lustre Creme Eyeshadow in Cupid *Extremely hard to work with.

Have you emptied or discarded any beauty products lately? Have you ever tried anything I emptied or discarded?

  1. Damn girl – you had so many empties and I’m hella impressed that you finished 3 concealers!! Also, I like how streamlined and concise this was… gotta take notes LOL.

What a bummer that so many of those skincare products broke you out – I wonder if there is a common ingredient across those items? I wonder if a Clean Beauty brand like Ren would work for you since they’re meant to be great for sensitive skin (def pricey though).

    1. Ugh those tarte concealers just go so fast!! & thank you lol, I tried my best to make it as organized as possible but I still felt it was messy. ๐Ÿ˜› Your posts are always very streamlined & concise, too!

Hmm… I never thought of that. I never really look into ingredients of a product but maybe I should?! I think I tried Ren body wash before! I didn’t know they did skincare as well?!

    1. Oh my gosh, aw, you remember!! โค I WAS super excited but my skin hated it. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I love reading Empties, too. Your posts & a few other bloggers' were what inspired me to write my first one!

    1. I’ve always heard good things about all 3 brands but, yeah, the products I tried just didn’t work out. Maybe they could for you though! The eyebrow gel was nice but, there was so much product leftover when it dried & gooped up. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ & I liked the mask a lot!

  2. I don’t really use any products except moisturizer, but I still love reading your beauty-related posts Some of your comments make me laugh and I come across good suggestions for stocking stuffers for my makeup-fanatic BFF.

    1. Aw yay!! So glad you can still enjoy these posts & at least get ideas for gifts, even if you’re not into makeup at all. Moisturizer is such a must so I am happy to hear you use it! ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. I’ll need to try that Tom’s of Maine toothpaste, I usually just get a regular fluoride free one so I havent explored what else they got to offer lol love the toothpaste though!
Did not like the abh clear brow gel either. It felt like I had put hairspray in my fucking eyebrows lol. It was really hard to take it off at the end of the day too
Sucks that drunk elephant made you break out and that the tatcha lip balm cracked your lips wtf youd expect their stuff to be amazing considering how expensive the brand is
I have that bang beauty eyeliner in a giveaway never bothered to open it because I knew I wasnt gonna use it. Good to know it’s no good but sucks for whoever is going to use it ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ I almost feel bad lol

    1. Yes! Try the Antiplaque & Whitening. You will see the difference right away!

Too much of that ABH brow gel was no good! If I wiped off all the excess to the point where the brush looked dry, it worked better.

I was excited for both the Drunk Elephant & Tatcha products but wow, both sucked LOL. I’m so happy I got both for free because the prices on ’em are NOT worth it.

LOL maybe someone else can get that Bang Beauty Eyeliner to work for them but if it’s ME who wins the giveaway, is it okay if I put it in my next giveaway!? Hahaha.

      1. Awesome! I’ll write it down because I’m in need of toothpaste and I’ve been wanting a whitening one for a while anyway.
I’m gonna get another brow product. I hear the Essence make me brow is really good and is very affordable. I’m thinking of doing a full face of essence at some point since I’ve already done a full face of wet n wild lol
Yeah no kidding! I would be pissed if I had to spend loads of money and not have a product work for me.
LOL no problem with me. Though if I remember correctly, you’ve entered for the drugstore giveaway so you dont have to worry about that at all ๐Ÿ˜ speaking of, I have to gather all the entries and pick two winners.

        1. Get this Tom’s one, seriously!! You will see your teeth whitening up right away. ๐Ÿ˜€

I keep hearing all the good things about Essence. I’d love to see you do a full face of their makeup!

Oh you’re right!! I can’t wait to see who wins!! โค

  4. Gosh the Glamglow mask sounds so gooood! Again, wish I had access to Honest locally! Ooo, I’ve been looking into new concealers, I’m gonna try the tarte one as soon as I can finish my currents! Omg, the legendary drunk elephant was a discard, daamn! Even Tatcha gosh! I rarely discard anything but I am so close to tossing my niacinamide from TO!

    1. The Glamglow mask was amazing! My skin looked so clear & all my red bumps were soothed right away. Is there anything by Honest that you’d want to buy? I haven’t heard that much about the brand! The Tarte concealer is my favorite but, it’s kind of expensive & there’s not much product in it. I’ve also not tried many other ones before so I don’t have much to compare it to. ๐Ÿ˜›

I was so excited for the Drunk Elephant duo & the Tatcha balm but, none of it worked for me! I was so sad. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I’m trying harder to discard things right away instead of storing them & keeping junk I don’t like!

      1. I’d really want Honest beauty creme blushes and some of their skincare! How long does the tarte stick last for you? I’ve seen a few of my fav youtubers use it all the time and it covers WELL. Don’t be sad because if they were great it’s kinda shitty too cause ITS SO EXPENSIVE. HAHA.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Ooh I’ve seen the creme blushes, they look so pretty! & their skincare lines sounds nice, too. ๐Ÿ™‚ The tarte stick probably lasts around a month or less but I do love it. & you’re right! It’s better that they didn’t work out because they are hella expensive lol.

  5. I love seeing what products other people go through! We also got those Equate cotton balls and I’m not a fan. They pull apart way too easily. What a shame that the creamsicle body butter made you break out with an eczema patch! O.O

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Me too! ‘Empties’ have become some of my fave posts. It’s so satisfying to see, isn’t it?

Yeah, I definitely did not like those Equate cotton balls. I hate the way they felt squeaky, too, & always stuck to my nails. Never buying them again!

I was so sad about the body butter. I never had the eczema patch where it is now, like I have common spots where it flares up all the time, but this butter brought out a new one. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  6. This is an interesting concept! Where did you first hear of this?

Here is a thought to reduce your waste even more: Some of those things you are discarding can be WASHED and REUSED instead of being thrown out!

Even if for some reason, you just want “a new one” (like you said for your sponges and makeup brushes) I’d say give them a wash in warm water and dishsoap or shampoo and then give them to someone who would really appreciate it!

With those sponges and brushes, as an example, they can be REPURPOSED as art brushes and to add cool textures to walls, paintings, your nails, etc.

    — hope this inspires you

    1. Hmm… I’m not sure the first person I saw do a post like this, I was inspired by many other bloggers who did it monthly or weekly, etc. I don’t have room in my apartment to reuse everything. I need to throw more out & even with a wash of my brush & sponges, I don’t want to use them anymore. I’m not sure how sanitary it is to give to someone else & who would really want it?? If I knew someone who would, I would definitely love to give my old stuff to them.

Thank you for your wonderful tips, I really do know I should take them into consideration & I feel horrible but, it doesn’t fit my lifestyle. :/

  7. P.S. Makeup, beauty products, shampoo, basically anything that is soapy and a liquid is considered hazardous waste.

This idea of showing our empty/discarded products is really cool… I think we just need to be responsible about how we dispose of things for Mama Earth ๐Ÿ˜›

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I totally understand where you’re coming from! Mostly, I do these posts to talk about & review the products. Personally, I feel it’s the creator’s job to make the packaging/waste not so hazardous to Mother Earth but, I try my best.
