Hey babes πŸ™‚ as promised, I’m back to talk about The Book of Mormon.

Inside of the playbills I get, there is usually a list of the songs, in order of when they’re sung on stage and separated between the two Acts. For this one, there was no such page so, I haven’t a clue what the songs were called.

I didn’t fancy any single one of them, anyways.

I even dozed off during a solo, like literally fell asleep, and almost fell down the whole balcony.

I’m not gonna lie, there were some jokes I did laugh at, even the Uganda people’s first song cracked me up (but, I felt pretty guilty afterwards) and the dance moves were quite hilarious. Admitting that I might sound like a ‘sensitive snowflake millennial‘ when I say this, I still have to come out with it… some of the jokes were downright offensive. I was often cringing and frowning!

I don’t have a bad word to say about the cast, they were all really talented and performed well in their roles. To me, Nubulungi played by Alyah Chanelle Scott, stood out the most. I loved her singing voice and her scenes were always my favorite.

I didn’t really understand the border set up on the stage and I still don’t. Even when the setting changed, the border stayed, it was like we were watching some obscure shaped TV the whole time.

The props, scenery, and backdrop were nicely made and beautiful to look at, I do commend them on that.

Maybe I missed something because I kept nodding off but, I do NOT understand the hype around this musical. Someone, please, explain to me WHY I was supposed to stand up and clap for this production. I feel completely out of the loop.

Also, that’s the LAST time I go to a musical without getting coffee first. I must wake up earlier and be more prepared for my next one!!

When boyfriend picked me up, we went straight home and just watched TV for the rest of the night. I got a coffee from McDonald’s because I wasn’t trying to go to sleep RIGHT away but, we still didn’t stay up for much longer…

On Wednesday, it was back to work for me. Boyfriend made an awesomely huge salad with salami, roast beef, red onions, red peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, wonton strips, and this new ginger dressing we were trying for the first time.

The dressing was a little salty but, not bad. I liked it and we even finished off the bottle earlier today– I just don’t think I’d buy it again.

Again, I drank a cocktail before leaving for work. There was literally NO ONE there, client-wise and dancer-wise. I was sad and lonely the whole time. 😦 I ended up leaving before 3 AM.

Thursday, I was really craving a Poke Bowl but, boyfriend’s not the biggest fan of them– he thinks they’re not filling enough. I knew if we went to China Town he could find something to eat elsewhere and I could get my Poke Bowl. In my Yelp Bookmarks, I found Pokeman, right next door to the Halal Guys… we had never been to either so it was just the perfect time to try them both. πŸ™‚

First, we stopped in and ordered boyfriend a Beef Gyro with all the fixin’s he wanted and some crispy crinkle-cut fries. That pita bread was so fluffy and delicious, sticking to my teeth when I sunk them in. Mmm, mmm.

I checked into Yelp while the sandwich was being made and we were rewarded with a free Baklava dessert. πŸ™‚ There was also a locals special for 10% off our order! Score!!!

Pokeman was just across the parking lot so boyfriend got his food wrapped up to-go and we walked on over.

The interior was super minimal with a touch of beachy, surfer vibes. There was a definite orange and white color scheme going on, too. I liked it a lot!!

For my bowl, I chose brown rice for the base and topped it with bay scallops, tuna, yellowtail, imitation crab, seaweed salad, spring mix salad, corn, red onions, red cabbage, shredded carrots, cucumbers, and wonton strips. For my dressing, I chose Miso Sesame then used their shakers for the little sesame seeds and the furikake for garnish. EVERYTHING was so fresh and tasty. The flavors all combined sooo well and none of the fish was slimy, smooshy, or too chewy. The sauce pulled everything together, making every single bite, the perfect one. I cannot wait to go back!!

After we ate, like we always do on my work days, we hit up Starbucks for our iced quad espressos. I know I drank a cocktail before work and probably at work, too. I can’t seem to remember the night as clearly though? I think it was better than Wednesday but, not as good as Monday.

I’ll be back again tomorrow with another Journal Entry, so I’ll talk to you again very soon. Right now, it’s getting late and I gotta start getting ready for work. πŸ˜›

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, my loves!!!! ❀

  1. I did a quick Book of Mormon google as this has always been one I’ve wanted to see. I learned that is satire, which is a form of comedy that I don’t think I like, so I probably wouldn’t like it either. Book of Mormon was created by the Southpark guys and I never found that show to be funny, either.

Man oh man does that gyro look good though!!!!!! Gimme gimme gimme!!!!! The only place to get a gyro around here is the Red Mule gas station / foodmart. I got one once, and I don’t think it was half bad. I should try it again and see.

When’s your next play? Are they weekly? Monthly?

    1. Oh my gosh, no wonder I didn’t really like it. South Park has never been funny to me, really.

Gyros are so yummy! Hopefully the one at the gas station is as good as you remember if you try one again. πŸ™‚

My next musical is this month, on the 20th. I get to go to one once a month, mostly. Sometimes they skip a month or have two in one month.

  2. HAHAHA, you still seem to get most of it despite not getting coffee first although it wasn’t that great. Boyfriend killing it with the meals again, as usual. Mmm, poke bowls always looked so good, hearing your description MMMM but for some reason, I’ve never tried them yet hmm. Hope you had a great weekend!

    1. Yeah, if the seats were more comfy & I wasn’t so high up, I def probably would have slept through it. πŸ˜› Boyfriend’s always killin’ it with the meals, isn’t he?! You should totally try a poke bowl– I wonder if you’d like it!

Hope you had a great weekend, too, Cordelia! Thank you! ❀

  3. Oh man, now I’m definitely reconsidering the musical! Especially if you dozed off, I can’t imagine it being that great. I’m sorry you had to sit through all of that! I think I would’ve left during intermission or something if something put me to sleep like that.

Mmm… I love poke bowls! They’re opening one downstairs at my workplace and I’m already excited for it, lol.

    1. I can’t bring myself to leave the plays/musicals lol, I always have hope it will get better or there will be something I like at the end, y’know? I’m kinda the same way with books & movies, too.

Poke bowls are so yummy, aren’t they? How cool that there will be one right downstairs from where you work!! Perfect for lunch. πŸ™‚

  4. That’s such a shame about the play! I know you had mentioned it a few times, so disappointing!
And theres no need for offence jokes… especially in a stage show, I think from a comedian is a little.dofferebt but still have to be careful with it.

Baklava is my all time favourite dessert, and to get it for free? Wow!

Hopefully work picks up again soon!
    Have a wonderful week xxx

    1. I was super disappointed! I really thought I’d enjoy this one. I agree that comedians have a little more room to make offensive joke & stuff but, it was off-putting as a stage show, for sure.

The baklava was so good. It tasted like a crispy, flaky pecan donut. ❀

Thank you so much, Kaya! Hope you have a wonderful week, too!

        1. Yeah, I guess I didn’t really look into the musical before going into it!

You should totally make your own baklava! They always talk about how it’s hard on The British Baking Show but I bet you could master it. πŸ˜‰ I’ve seen your bakes!!!

  5. Oh man that’s not good! Sucks you weren’t into it, I do wonder what is so great about it too lol
That salad looks so yummy but I might take the meat out if I ever have something like that haha or maybe replace it with hard boiled eggs or chicke. Idk lololol
That’s great you guys got to try two new places. There’s a lot of poke places around here too but since its raw fish, I cant lol. Looks great though!

    1. Yeah, I guess I’m just not into that kind of humor!

I LOVE hard boiled eggs lately, I eat one almost everyday… I don’t know why! & I am addicted to raw fish, too. I almost don’t care if it could kill me!

  6. Oh my goodness, the Book of Mormon sounds awful! That’s rather irritating that their jokes were rather offensive and rude. There’s just no call for that. You’re right though — those sorts of people would then respond with “sensitive snowflakes” labels for finding it offensive! Which…is still rude lol. Pardon ME if I don’t like people having fun at others’ expenses. XD
Anywayyy my goodness that poke bowl looks AMAZING! I’ve never had a poke bowl, but I have to have one now. All the different fish sounds incredible! So it’s basically like deconstructed sushi? Also love gyros! Mmm.

    1. Gosh, yeah. Do you like the show South Park? They have the same creators as Book of Mormon, if that gives you a sense of the humor. πŸ˜› I hate the term ‘snowflake’ but I guess I can be one, oh well!! LOL. So happy you’re on my side about this!! ❀

That's the perfect way to describe a poke bowl– deconstructed sushi. πŸ™‚ You will love it when you try it!! & yesss, gyros are so yummy!!

      1. I haven’t really watched South Park, but from what I’ve seen in clips, it’s not my taste at all! I can see why you wouldn’t like it. Ugh, I hate the term snowflake too, it’s so rude! Oh absolutely! ❀

Oooh those poke bowls sounds so good then!! I will have to find a place here to try it. πŸ™‚

  7. I really liked Book of Mormon but I do admit that it’s an acquired taste. I know people that have loved it and I know people that refuse to even attempt the show because of the creators and they know they won’t like it. Hopefully you enjoy your next show more.

    1. Ah I do feel a bit ‘sensitive’ saying I hated Book of Mormon but, I don’t hate South Park. I even laugh at it when my boyfriend has it on sometimes but, I guess, I felt the humor was out of place for Broadway & honestly, my heart hurt during a lot of the ‘jokes.’

Can’t wait to share about the next show. πŸ™‚
