Journal Entry #251 (Fiddler on the Roof Musical Review)

Ahhhh! Only ten more days until my big 24th. I still haven’t decided what I want to do and/or when I want to do it. My birthday is on a Saturday which are usually the best nights at work, plus I get free house, so I’ll probably be celebrating on the 12th? Or should I do it the week after? Like on the 17th? I don’t know, I don’t know!

Anyways, I thought I’d take a quick break from my Sims’ life and update my blog about mine, lol.

The last time I published a Journal Entry was Friday night. It seriously feels like so long ago and my memory is certainly a bit foggy right now.

We didn’t go out for a drink and I only had one shot before I left the apartment. Work was pretty slow and lame but, not the worst. Saturday night was LOADS better. We did stop at the bar for a couple cocktails before I went in but, luckily, not too many. ๐Ÿ˜› The time went by quickly but, I wasn’t slurring and stupid. I am obviously still working on cutting down my alcohol intake but, slowly, I am getting there… at least, it seems like it… on some days.

When boyfriend picked me up around 4 AM, we went back to the bar and ordered some grub to eat.

Boyfriend got their 12pc Hot Wings. They smelled so delicious and tasted great, too.

I got my favorite Turkey Club on wheat. I couldn’t stop thinking about it the whole night. It was extremely satisfying when I finally got to put it in my belly!!

On Sunday, we went our traditional sushi route but, wanted to try somewhere we hadn’t been before.

Blue Fin had pretty good reviews and wasn’t too far of a drive away.

The interior wasn’t anything special, it could have been any kind of restaurant with the bland looks of it. I didn’t even take a picture!

Lately, boyfriend and I have been ordering more of the appetizers instead of the nigiri and rolls. To start, we had the Tuna Poke Salad. It was fresh and tasty. I loved the jalapenos and the mild, subtle sauce.

Of course, we had to have some Seaweed Salad and Miso Soup (not pictured) but, the salad was a little too wet and the soup was a little too salty…

The Coconut Shrimp tasted stale despite being hot and greasy. I think they need new coconut shavings?

I hate cream cheese so I only had one bite of these Jalapeno Bombs before passing the whole plate to boyfriend.

These 3 sizzling guys came out at the same time. Starting on the left, we had the beef ribeye, the middle was scallops and bacon, and on the right, were baked (unshelled) mussels. I had no idea the seafood was going to be covered in cheese! It was quite disappointing, honestly.

Our last set of appetizers were a deep-fried trio. We had calamari, gyoza, and squid on a stick! All were yum!

Finally, we moved onto rolls. I can’t remember the names or what was in them but, I know there was Blue Fin Tuna on top of the one in the back and Yellowtail on top of the one closest to the camera. I was kind of nervous about the shade of their Yellowtail? It tasted fine but, I’ve never seen it so white, nearly grey before? We did enjoy both rolls.

We also tried the Uni but, both threw it up in a napkin. It was NOT nice. I had tried it only one time before, over rice in NY, and that time– it was awesome. I don’t know if I’ll ever be brave enough to try it again after this.

We didn’t get dessert because we had those Whole Foods macarons waiting for us at home. They ended up being pretty gross. I could only eat more than one bite of the coffee and boyfriend liked the pistachio. The other ones were HUGE misses in flavor but, at least they weren’t stale like I was worried about. Their vegan cookies were pretty good.

For the rest of Sunday night, you can probably already guess that I got whisked away into my Sims game again. ๐Ÿ˜›

I’d rather not talk about Monday but, I guess we will go over it for a second. I had one of those annoying days where I do all the actions and chores of getting ready for work but, when the time comes, I back out.

We went to Cafe Zupas for dinner and had cocktails at the bar. I could’ve been there at a decent time but, I couldn’t seem to force myself to go. Boyfriend just brought me back home and we both played the Sims for the rest of the night.

Yesterday, it was finally time for another musical!! Last month, there were none showing and it made the 31 days seem so empty.

The previous two shows I went to were a bit lackluster and dull… I was actually more nervous than excited to see Fiddler on the Roof because of them.

Ohhhh was I so very wrong to worry! This show was outstanding! Though, at the end of it, I was still lost about what the heck the Fiddler on the Roof represented. I did look it up and I do understand the metaphor but, I wish he spoke or something to explain to us more while we were watching.

My favorite part of the whole production was the scenery and props. They changed everything up so much and all of their backdrops were just beautiful, so detailed and lovely.

For me, none of the songs or voices stuck out. They were all good and entertaining but, didn’t hit or move me in any way. I especially had a hard time understanding Tevye (played by Yehezkel Lazarov) when he sang because he was doing this super thick accent. Also, there was tons more dancing than singing. The dancers were extremely talented and super fun to watch. For the first time, I actually didn’t wish for them to get on with it like I usually do during dance scenes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen more on point, on beat choreography before– they were all just PHENOMENONAL! I will admit I let a few tear drops during the duet “Do You Love Me?” More because of the meaning and story behind it than the actual song though.

As for the cast members, they were all equally talented in every aspect. No one acted or sang better than any of the others. Usually, I can single somebody out as the best but, this time, I had no one.

The ending was a bit abrupt for my taste and I was left semi-confused. After I did my research, I was more satisfied. Going in, I had no idea what this show was about but, I left, with a smile, learning a lot more than expected. Fiddler on the Roof has reignited my Broadway lovin’ heart. I cannot wait for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the 18th. I guess we get two since they skipped May. It will be the last show of the season and my new tickets for next season arrive in July! ๐Ÿ˜€

I forgot to mention that we had Chipotle and Dunkin’ Donuts before boyfriend dropped me off at The Smith Center.

I didn’t take pictures at our drinks at Dunkin’ but, I just got a hot coffee with 4 shots of espresso in it and boyfriend used his T-Mobile Tuesdays coupon for a free Med. Iced Vanilla Latte with 4 shots. The workers there had such an attitude, it was ridic.

When the show ended and boyfriend picked me up, we just headed straight home and I opened up the Sims right away. ๐Ÿ˜€

Today, we went to Albertsons for a rotisserie chicken. Boyfriend made my dad’s fish sauce for dipping and a side salad. We ate the whole dang thing! I swear the chickens used to be way bigger and fatter back in the day. My whole family used to not even be able to finish one!

I hopped onto WordPress and checked my notifications right when we finished eating then, I started writing this. It has taken me about 2 hours but, I did take a small break in the middle. ๐Ÿ˜› I gotta make my June Journal Entry Featured Image then, hello Simmies, here I come!!

Hope you all have a great rest of your week!!! โค

  2. Why not celebrate the whole week for your birthday?! My birthday is in June, too, and I always celebrate the whole week, making the day of particularly fun/special. Birthdays are meant to be fun and celebratory, so enjoy! There’s no reason why you can’t enjoy more than one day of it. ๐Ÿ™‚
I’ve seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory before and absolutely loved it! If you enjoy the story/book, the musical is fantastic and fun. I hope you do enjoy it, too!

      1. My birthday is on June 26th, and I’ll be turning 37! I’m still young at heart, though. Haha. I usually take a birthday trip, which is why I end up celebrating for the week. Thank you for the warm wishes. I sincerely hope you have the best birthday yet as well! I’m sure whichever day you decide to do what you have in mind on will be a fun time either way!

Anyways the rice pasta well i just used pasta sauce lol but the thing that makes it amazing is this miyokos butter. Oh my gosh its a lifesaver. And like idk whats wrong with me but idk how to servie myself veggies with my pasta so i just ate the pasta alone lol is that weird ?

        1. Mmmm that sounds wonderful. โค I've heard good things about the Miyokos brand. We like the Earth Balance brand but we have to try it! Lol you should try roasting the veggies in the oven! They're so yummy like that. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Ah yass bday coming up lol. I’m hoping to send you your gift by Monday the latest. Hopefully it arrives on time.
I love that you guys do sushi Sunday, and you get to go to new places nearly every weekend. We still havent gotten around to going to new places because it’s a whole ‘nother ball game when you have a child and the wait time is more than 20 mins ๐Ÿ™ˆ
Too bad about the macarons ๐Ÿ˜• usually those you can never go wrong with but the flavor does change its overall taste and likeness lol
How cool you went to another musical! Glad you enjoyed it and that everything was overall good. I cannot wait for you to go see Charlie and the chocolate factory! When I was a kid, in fourth grade, we had to participate in a play, and yes it was that one lol. I was an oompa loompa ๐Ÿคฃ

    1. It arrived right on time!! โค

We really do love trying new places but it seems like we're running out of restaurants that aren't on The Strip or more than 30 minutes away. I totally see how it would be hard to wait for a table with a child. We try to avoid waits because I think boyfriend & I are the worst when we're hangry. Lol maybe even worse than kiddos…

I LOOOVE that you were an Oompa Loompa in the play, that is so freakin' cute hahhaa. โค I can't wait to see it, it's already coming up this Tuesday!

        1. Me too, me too lol it’s so hard not to. I’m always like “next time, I’m gonna know I’m just hungry & not actually mad” but nope, never happens hahaha.

I would LOVE to see a photo of baby Rossy in the Oompa Loompa costume!

  5. Oh I love Fiddler on the Roof! I’ve never seen it live but I love the movie musical. So good! As always the sushi looks super delicious and makes me want to order some haha. I hope that you get to do something fun for your birthday!! Do you have any sort of ideas yet?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I didn’t even know Fiddler on the Roof was a movie until I heard the audience talking about it after the show. How interesting! I should see if I can find it to watch. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sorry I make you crave sushi almost weekly… welcome to my life hahaha. The only ideas I have for my birthday are food-related LOL.

  6. First, those hot wings looked SO good! ๐Ÿ˜ But what a bummer that the Sushi & macaroons turned out to be so crummy / sub-par.

Iโ€™ve never seen Fiddler on the Roof even though itโ€™s such a classic. Glad to know you enjoyed it, but that it may be worthwhile doing some initial research on the meaning of the story before I try to see it!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hot wings are always a win! โค But yeah, better luck next time with the sushi spot & macarons!

I never even knew that Fiddler on the Roof was a classic until I heard the audience talking about watching the movie as a kiddo & stuff lol. The fiddler himself made no sense or impact within the show but, everything else about it could be watched without any initial research. ๐Ÿ™‚ Super enjoyable!

  7. I think itโ€™s great that there are so many affordable, well acted musicals for you to go out and see. We get the big expensive nationwide oneโ€™s or cheap community theatre ones that are cringey and over-acted. Sea food covered in cheese is a new one!? Is it a physical or mental energy thing thatโ€™s making you not want to go in work hon? Iโ€™m still in awe that you have a job where you get to choose sometimes, although I can certainly see that it takes effort on the nights you do go in. Right, Iโ€™m off to Google Fiddler On The Roof….

    Liked by 1 person

    1. LOL I honestly enjoy some cheap community theatre once in awhile. I wish I knew where to find those around here! The ones I go to are a little expensive but, I sit in a balcony seat & purchased a subscription so my tickets were a little cheaper than usual. ๐Ÿ™‚

The seafood covered in cheese wasn’t my favorite lol.

For work, it’s mostly a mental energy, where I don’t want to smile & play nice all night, but sometimes I also feel bloated & physically unattractive when I don’t want to go. ๐Ÿ˜› It is nice being able to choose when I’m at my best to go in though!

Fiddler on the Roof was totally interesting but I wish it was explained better about the fiddler himself lol.

  8. Now how many days until your birthday??? Four??? Any plans made or just going to wing it?

I’ve only had Uni once in my life and once was enough. It was a million years ago but I’m pretty sure I remember barfing mine out into a napkin as well. Gah!!!!! Alllll the other food looks yummy.

Had to LOL at this: Though, at the end of it, I was still lost about what the heck the Fiddler on the Roof represented. (I don’t know anything about it myself btw)

    1. Ugh it’s on Saturday. I think we’re gonna do something small on Monday or Sunday… it’s all food-related of course. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yeah, the uni was weird. It tasted like you pulled something out of the ocean & didn’t wash or cook it before putting it in your mouth lol.

I was SO confused about the fiddler. They had random scenes where he’d just fiddle but no one ever paid attention to him & he never spoke…

  9. Canโ€™t wait to hear how you celebrate your birthday!! WOOHOO! Also, it blows me away that youโ€™re turning 24.. I feel like you are so mature beyond your years (not even that we have much of an age difference, lol). That tuna poke bowl looks soo fresh & now I want some seaweed salad! Itโ€™s been so hot here, and nothing is more refreshing than some type of sushi & wakame! Fiddler on the Roof sounds incredible- good choreography really makes or breaks a show! Thanks for starting my day off on such a fun note, Hunida ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Aw we’re probably not gonna do anything too special for my birthday. I just have a little food outing planned of course lol.

WOW it blows me away that you think I am mature beyond my years. That actually means so much, Mackenzie. I feel so irresponsible & naive lol.

Yesss, sushi & seaweed salad are so refreshing in the summertime. It’s definitely super hot over here now, too!!

Fiddler on the Roof was a winning show, I loved it. ๐Ÿ˜€ Thank you for reading & leaving such a lovely comment!! โค So happy I could start your day off!! โค

Aw no- I think you have a heart of gold and a lot of wisdom- even if you are irresponsible in some ways being intrinsically wise outweighs that by far!

Aw of course! Have the best day tomorrow, love! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’•โค๏ธ

I can't wait to read how you celebrate it (and also what you ate hehe)
Which Sims do you play? Mobile or Computer?
Mmmm, the HOT WINGS, my number one but they rarely have it near where I live!
Oh no, the sushi place sounds pretty horrible and macarons didn't make up for it either! ): I know its such a first world problem, but urghh, a bad meal makes me feel quite down! woops!
Also, wow, what's the fish sauce recipe!?!
Yay, its fun reading your journals again! See ya on the next one!

    1. Aww hi Cordelia โ™ก thank you so much!!! I won’t be celebrating my birthday until next week probably but I can’t wait to share what we eat! ๐Ÿ˜„

I play Sims 4 on the computer. I hate the mobile games!

Hot wings are so yummy! Not too hard to make at home either. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lol yes it is a first world problem to have a bad meal but it doesn’t make it any less bad, right?

The fish sauce recipe is just bunch of chopped up fresh tomatoes, sugar, thai chili peppers, & fish sauce. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for stopping by, love!! So nice to hear from you. โ™ก

      1. HAHA I can’t wait too! Oh woops, I still play Sims Freeplay on mobile. Mehhh, I’m too lazy to make wings because its such a long process. Ohh okok, tomato and sugar? Does it really go well like that? I’ve never heard of it!

        Liked by 1 person

        1. I tried Sims Freeplay but it’s way too hard to keep up with for me lol. I am too lazy to make any food, too. I feel you.

The tomato fish sauce is really nice. I love it with rotisserie chicken but I don’t know what else it would work for.
