Ipsy Glam Bag PLUS | May 2019

Hello all my fellow beauty lovin’ babes! It’s neeeearly the end of May and I haven’t even gotten to discussing this month’s box with you yet.

Let’s dive in before June hits!

What Was In My Box?!

Theme: Day Dream

Lip Coloring Pencil Duo in Lust & Media

Ipsy’s Description

Because there’s nothing worse than lipstick that feathers, bleeds, and smudges, it’s time you incorporate a lip pencil into your routine. Illamasqua’s super pigmented lip pencil shades Lust (a coral pink) and Media (a cranberry red) lock your lipstick in place all day and add tons of dimension.

My First Impressions

Ipsy has now sent me three different shades of this same lip liner. I received my first one in the regular January bag. I’m glad they, at least, sent two this time since it is the PLUS.

In their description, I think they mixed up the shades. Media is the more pinkish coral one while Lust was the cranberry red. The swatches looked quite different but, once colored onto my lips– they were almost identical. Media showed up pink and bright at first but, eventually darkened down to the same shade as Lust.

I do like the pencil though. It’s nice and sharp but, still soft. You can run it across your lips without worrying it’ll break. It also doesn’t take many swipes for deep pigmentation and it’s not easily removed.

Try On

Lust on bottom lip, Media on top lip

Media (top), Lust (bottom)

Retail Value: $21 each

Il Makiage
Icon High Volume & Intense Curl Mascara in Icon Black

Ipsy’s Description

When you can’t be bothered to fumble with falsies, reach for a mascara that pumps up your natural lashes, minus the messy glue. The football-shaped silicone brush grips and coats even the tiniest of lashes, lifting, curling, and lengthening all at once.

My First Impressions

I love how the formula isn’t too wet and it doesn’t make a big glob at the end of the brush. I usually prefer the traditional bristles but, this plastic brush was the first one to work for me. It grabs the perfect amount of product each dip and neatly separates my lashes. I noticed the lifting, curling, and lengthening right away but, for me, a truly good mascara needs to add a little thickness and volume, too.

The Brush

Try On

No mascara (left eye), Il Makiage Mascara (right eye)

Retail Value: $25

Ipsy’s Description

Think of this oxygenated, charcoal-infused sheet mask as a mini bubble bath for your face. Glamglow’s Bubblesheet activates with foaming bubbles when you put it on. That tingling feeling just means it’s removing all traces of makeup, dirt, and oil from your pores. It’s so fun, you can’t have just one–instead, you’ll get a set of three masks.

My First Impressions

What an experiment! I had seen these “bubbling” masks all over the blogosphere and knew I wanted to try one. I was even more excited that the ones I got were by Glamglow, who are known for good skincare.

First of all, you only leave this mask on for three minutes. Other masks I’ve done need to sit for around 10-20. I kid you not, I took the “try on” photo (below) and spent the rest of the two minutes just staring in the mirror, watching the bubbles activate. The cooling, tingly sensation started right when I peeled the sheet off– I loved it. My actual face was left covered in foamy bubbles. It felt and looked like shaving cream all over! It was such a blast rubbing it in, I didn’t want to stop!

Surprisingly, the experience wasn’t even the best part. My skin afterwards was. It was tightened, brightened, and cleared. My pores and blackheads looked so clean! I had a small breakout with one serious red bump (from a moisturizer I tested) and was not using anything on my face since it had appeared. After my three-day skincare break, the bump was still big and red. I popped this bad boy on and saw the redness fade immediately… and then, the next day… it was completely gone!

My only complaints are that it can only be used once a week and I can’t repurchase due to it’s non-cruelty free status.

Cruelty-Free? No

Face Hero

Ipsy’s Description

This multitasking, good-for-you cocktail of natural ingredients comes to the rescue by hydrating parched skin, brightening dull complexions, and soothing inflammation. It also helps combat fine lines, dark spots, and early signs of aging. And no worries about residue (here’s looking at you oily and combination complexions)–your skin will soak it up quickly.

My First Impressions

I’ve never tried a facial oil that I’ve liked. I hate how they leave my skin feeling greasy and usually cause me to break out. I was going to throw this in my upcoming giveaway but, I’m interested in trying the brand and the description sounds promising…

My face has only JUST cleared up (thanks to the mask I just went on and on about right above) so, I haven’t been brave enough to try this yet but, I did open it up to take a peek. The dropper is glass and the liquid is dark yellow. It has a flowery/essential oil scent that reminded me of Whole Foods.

Retail Value: $34

Wander Beauty
Wanderess Seascape Eyeshadow Palette

Ipsy’s Description

This Wander Beauty six-pan eyeshadow palette can transport you to the tropics for a lot less than a plane ticket. Loaded with a mix of foil, shimmery, satin, and matte finishes in shades of sea foam, deep blue, sandy brown, sea salt pink, and warm gold, these pigmented shadows infused with skin-loving ingredients, can create endless looks on and off the beach.

My First Impressions

The metallic shades in this palette looked sooo soft sitting in their pans, I was afraid to even touch it. When I swirled my finger into them for the swatches (below), my mind almost tricked me into thinking they were wet– that’s how velvety smooth they are. Every shade showed up beautifully pigmented and even. I love the size of the palette itself and of the pans inside, too. I have not tried these shadows on my actual lids yet and I do realize swatches, often times, don’t mean shit but, I’m still excited to try. 🙂

Retail Value: $25
Cruelty-Free? Yes

Total Box Value: $153

    1. I was really impressed with this month! I hadn’t ever heard of Go-To but I am def interested in the brand now that I’ve been introduced to it. 🙂 I also really like that Il Makiage mascara so am hoping to try more from them, too! Wander Beauty has some amazing products but I’ve also tried stuff by them that I didn’t like.

  1. Yassss ipsy plus.
Interesting that once you’re wearing the lip liners they look the same. Idk about that though lol.
I’m so fussy about mascaras, still havent found my “one” 😂
I’ve always wanted to try those bubble masks they look so fun! It’s so great that they worked for you and made your skin feel and look amazing.
I am using a face oil that does leave me feeling a bit greasy but because the weather outside is still chilly I welcome it because it’s so hydrating and I wake up with soft skin lol cant wait to read your thoughts on this one
And lastly, a wander beauty palette! Looks pretty, I probably wouldn’t care for any of those shades but the blue one. Lol. That one is gorgeous.
The value was great! Cant wait to see next months.

    1. Right?! All I could see was that the pink one was a tiiiiiny bit brighter. & I get why you’re fussy with mascaras! So many are just terrible. 😛

The bubble mask was a blast to use lol. I wish Glamglow was cruelty-free because I’d buy more & use ’em every week!

Ugh, I just hate that greasy feeling. I hope this facial oil isn’t lying about how your face soaks it all up & leaves no residue. 😛 I am not brave enough to use it yet lol.

I love the blue & greenish shade (Sea Foam) in the Wander Beauty palette! I thought maybe they could’ve switched the pink out for an orange (for the sunset/rise) though to make the story more interesting. 😛

I can’t wait to see next month’s, too!!

      1. I know, glam glow seems to have loads of cool and fun products. I havent really heard any bad reviews, my only con in one of their products was the scent of licorice lol
I may skip facial oils for the summer. They’re great for the winter but not so much for summer.
Ah yeah they should have. I feel like orange shades are so underrated and you hardly ever see them unless they’re in some color palette OR a neutral one.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Yeah, hopefully Glamglow will get the hint & switch to cruelty-free status in the future. I know the exact product you’re talking about that smelled like licorice!

My skin is the driest during summer. Do you think I should use the oil??

          Liked by 1 person

          1. Haha that’s right, you didn’t end up liking that one either because of the scent 🤣
And it wouldn’t hurt to try it. You could use it for a few days or up to a week and see if it makes a difference in your skin during the summer. You never know, it may work. And if it doesnt you can always use it on the cooler months?

  2. Oh, some cool stuff!
I haven’t done make up since forever but lately flirted with the idea of trying some stuff again. Seeing these posts of yours i figured i could try this box, as i have no idea what to even get. The UK reviews are not very good tho :/
I really like that lip pencil you got, such a pretty color!

    1. I love playing with makeup even if I don’t wear it out all the time. It’s just so fun! & sadly, Ipsy doesn’t ship to the UK but, if I lived over there I’d probably subscribe to Glossybox. It seems like a good one!

The lip pencils work really nice & last long on my lips, too. 🙂

    1. Yeah!! I totally wish I could buy more of those masks but do not want to support the brand testing on animals. I’m glad you feel the same way about the facial oils & it isn’t just me!

Thank you for stopping by, Anna! ❤

  3. What!! This box is just tooo good! And you’re right, those lip liners are almost identical!! I really do like the colours though!

It’s such a shame that the bubble mask isn’t cruelty free! 😒 It sounds incredible, I really wanted to try but knowing it’s not cruelty free puts me off. I’ll be honest, I’m not totally strict on makeup etc and buying cruelty free but when I know something isn’t, I’m not going to go out of my way to purchase it when their are so many other face masks brands out there that are cruelty free (Lush etc)! If only we lived in a world where all beauty products were cruelty free, then we wouldn’t even have to think twice about it! I’m going to make a more conscious decision to check out on what I’m buying from now on… because the more we buy cruelty free the more brands will turn that way!

And that eyeshadow palette looks great!!! What a treat, Ipsy really are the best!

    1. It really was an impressive box!! The lip liners were so different until I colored in my lips. I wonder how that happens?

Yeah, seriously! Why do people think it’s right to test on animals? I can’t support that now that I’m aware of it, y’know? I wish every brand would be cruelty-free… especially Glamglow now. That face mask was such a gem!!

I am loving the eyeshadow palette. 🙂 I can’t wait to create some looks with it! & I agree about Ipsy being the best, they are such a top-notch subscription!

      1. Hm that is weird. Sometimes the lip liners adapt to different skin tones or lip tones should I say? Sometimes I’d recommend applying your foundation over your lips before applying the lip product because it cancels out the natural colour of your lips so you get the true colour of your lip product, does that make sense?! I don’t know if that helps LOL.

I know it’s so stupid and unnecessary. I think it’s such a tricky subject, and so confusing because some brands are cruelty free but not vegan and I’m like… what!? But yeah I get you. I’m definitely trying to make a more informed decision when shopping for beauty products now. I just bought a CF foundation the other day, instead of my usual one. It’s so annoying that they’re not all just cruelty free because it’s like… I wanna use these products!? It’s such a shame about the Glamglow brand / mask because that mask sounded incredible. I think I’m going to try some more LUSH face masks because I know they are cruelty free!

Ah I am so excited to see the looks (if you share them ofc), makeup can be so much fun!

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Oooh that makes so much sense about my lip color & tone. I will totally try the foundation over my lips trick. Thank you for the tip!! ❤

I KNOOOW, it's truly so confusing. I just try my best to look up the brands on Cruelty Free Kitty's website to see what she says. I'm not that picky about vegan products but I really do prefer cruelty-free! I neeeeed to try me some LUSH masks ASAP.

I will def share the makeup looks when I create them!! 😀 ❤ Makeup truly is so fun!! ❤

          1. You’re welcome hun! It’s a great trick, I don’t do it too often but it’s still handy to know.

Yeah that’s a good idea hun, I’ll have to check that website out. I’m definitely making more of an effort now to buy cruelty free and that’s down to your inspiration Hunida, so thank you!

Yes try the LUSH ones! I have a hair mask from them I still need to try actually…

Yay I’m so excited to see them and I agree 100%, it’s so much fun and a great creative outlet!

            Liked by 1 person

            1. I saw a meme that said back in the day wearing foundation all over your lips (with no color over top) was a fad! Lol it looked so silly. 🤣

Aww wow, I’m so happy to have inspired you to think more about buying cruelty-free, every purchase counts! ♡

I have heard great things about that LUSH hair mask. Hope it works out well for you! Do let me know if it does (or doesn’t)!

  4. Damn, Sam! I was getting ready to buy that foaming charcoal mask for my crappy face until you informed us it is NOT cruelty free. Looks fun, but a definite no-no.

Annoying that the two lip pencils look the same once applied, but love the color they both become. LOL

    The eyeshadow palette!!!!!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yeah it was a really fun mask that did a lot of work on my face but, we can’t support the evil animal testing. 😦 I was shocked that the lip pencils turned out to be same color… so weird! & Yesss, THE EYESHADOW PALETTE!! ❤

  5. Oooh, I always look forward to your Ipsy bag posts, Hunida!! I’d say my favorite out of this box is definitely the Wander Beauty eyeshadow palette!! Omg, how pretty. I’m such a beach person so I was instantaneously drawn to the coastal shades names — so adorable! You should totally do a makeup look with that palette, it’d be so gorgeous! x

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yay!! So happy you like these posts, Nunzia. 😀 The eyeshadow palette really is gorgeous & I loved the beach names. They were all so perfect to represent the sand & water!

I will totally do a makeup looks post for this palette sometime in the near future. I already have some ideas! 😀

  6. That face mask sounds amazing but I’m trying to only buy cruelty free too 😩 I wish all brands would just be cruelty free. That’s awesome it helped your skin so much!! The Wander Beauty palette looks beautiful.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I knoooow… I truly can’t believe that people even test on animals. How can they be so cruel?! I want more of those masks so bad but at least they gave me 3 of ’em. 😛 I can’t wait to experiment with the Wander palette!

      Liked by 1 person

  7. Ooh that mask looks & sounds so fun!! I’ve been wanting to try a bubble mask for a while. I love how fast they are and I’ve only heard good things. Plus, it sounds like it really FEELS like it’s making a difference too, which I love. Sometimes I don’t do masks because it seems like I never notice a difference, lol.

    1. I loved this mask, Courtney. I totally felt it while it was on, doing it’s thing, & when I took it off & examined my face– I saw a huge difference. I am looking forward to the one week mark so I can use it again & see even more results. 😀

      Liked by 1 person

    1. Yesss, I have loved my Ipsy Plus more than my Boxy for the past couple months but I’m not sure if it’s because I’m bias & want eyeshadow palettes lol.

The bubble mask was a blast!! I felt like my cats were scared of me with it on hahaha.

  8. Love love love the review! It’s the first blog post I’ve read from you, and I’m definitely going to subscribe
Thanks for your honesty and can’t wait to see more

  9. Also, I haven’t seen any pics, or posts about it, I’m wondering if the Glam plus comes with the makeup bag? My 1st Glam bag + is on the way, and I was just wondering. I’m gonna miss that little cosmetic bag if not!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Unfortunately the Plus no longer comes with a makeup bag! That’s why I still get the original sample bag lol, I can’t give ’em up!! Congrats on getting your first Plus!! ❤
