Empties & Discards

Hey there fellow beauty lovers! Welcome to my first ever “Empties & Discards” post. I realized I’m always showing you guys new products that I buy but, I never follow up with how I’m liking them. This way, I can show you which items I’m throwing out and which ones I used ’til the end. I’ve been saving my trash since a little after 2019 started. I hope you guys enjoy reading about mine as much as I enjoy reading about yours. πŸ™‚

Empties

Skincare

  • Tarte – Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost Moisturizer

There was only enough cream for 3 nights in a row. It kept my face plump, moist, and soft. I didn’t notice a scent and didn’t detect any breakouts.

Repurchase? Yes

  • Berrisom – Sheep Vitamin C + Arbutin Animal Mask

The mask itself was extremely cute and extra fun with the design of an actual sheep’s face on it. I noticed a difference in the brightness and smoothness of my face immediately after use. The effects lasted about a day.

Repurchase? Yes

  • Marcelle – City 24H Anti-Pollution Day & Night Moisturizing Emulsion

My skin had a constant brightness to it while using this moisturizer everyday. The product was a bit fast absorbing though, a lot of cream was needed each time. There was no scent and it kept my face moisturized but, not as best as it could have.

Repurchase? No

Hygiene

  • Harry’s – Truman Razors

These sucked! I used two of them but, I couldn’t get a close shave at all. It was impossible to get into crevices and crooks, too.

Repurchase? NO!

  • Colgate – Total in Clean Mint

Way too sweet and never left my mouth feeling fresh.

Repurchase? No

  • J.R. Watkins – Handsoap in Aloe & Green Tea

I liked the scent and the soap was silky smooth, leaving my hands the same way.

Repurchase? Yes

  • Tom’s of Maine – Antiplaque & Whitening in Peppermint

After using this toothpaste, there’s no other ones that can compare. I need this in my life, always.

Repurchase? Every time

Makeup

  • Clinique – Take The Day Off Makeup Remover

Super gentle liquid that wasn’t too oily and it removed makeup like a dream– even the impossible kinds.

Repurchase? Yes

  • ULTA Beauty – Maximum Lashes Mascara

Eh, it was alright. I used it until it dried out so I can’t say I hated it!

Repurchase? No

  • Benefit – Boi~ing Airbrush Concealer in No. 3

It was crazy when I reached the bottom of this little guy. I didn’t think it would ever happen. I loved this for spiffying up around my eyebrows. It was creamy and applied evenly.

Repurchase? Yes (if the brand were cruelty-free)

Body Care

  • Open Nature – Free & Clear Ultra Soft Baby Wipes in Fragrance Free

These are way too thick and not even completely wet. They are dry and kind of hurt.

Repurchase? No way

  • CVS Health – Ultra-Soft Cleansing Wipes in Fragrance Free

These are my favorite. They’re the perfect texture and thickness, always nice and wet.

Repurchase? Yep, already have!

  • The Body Shop – Body Butter in Grapefruit

I felt this was a bit greasy compared to other lotions/butters I’ve tried. It kept my skin hydrated but, not as soft as usual. I absolutely loved the citrusy scent.

Repurchase? No, maybe I’ll try a yogurt next time

  1. Whoa!! You threw a lot of things away. Were those expired or were they not good/not your type? (ps. I like this post! I always wonder if you ever get to use all those products in your boxes) πŸ˜›

    1. I knooow, it made me sad to throw so much stuff out but mostly all of it just didn’t work out for me (with an exception of one or two expired items).

I’m so glad you like this post, Kat! πŸ™‚ Now, you’ll see all the items I actually use compared to what gets tossed lol.

  2. Congratulations on all your efforts! It’s not always easy to discard products unless you really don’t like them. I’ve got a Moringa body yoghurt from The Body Shop I’m yet to try, I picked it up before the store in my city closed down 😦 The Tarte moisturiser sounds nice, I didn’t know they did moisturisers. I’ve got the Clinique cleansing balm which is like your makeup remover but in a big tub, it’s nice πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you!! My boyfriend looked at me crazy when he saw all the makeup I was throwing away. He was like “that’s full!!” to some things LOL. I just wasn’t going to use them so I may as well toss ’em, y’know?

I heard all of The Body Shop physical stores are going to be shutting down. That’s such a bummer! Their scents are so nice. Let me know how you like the yogurt. πŸ™‚

I didn’t really know Tarte made moisturizers either lol. They included the mini sample in one of my orders & I was surprised! I’m gonna have to check out the Clinique Cleansing Balm. I loved that makeup remover!

      1. I didn’t know all physical The Body Shop stores were closing down, do you know why? To my knowledge that’s not the case in New Zealand… I hope not anyway!

The balm lasts for ages too, only a small amount is needed per use πŸ™‚

  3. Happy to see you love Tom’s of Maine toothpaste too! I can’t love without it. The deodorants are amazing too and all natural.

Sorry everything didn’t turn out to be a winner, but it looks like you’ve found some fantastic products to stick with for sure! πŸ˜‰

    1. It’s the best toothpaste, ever, isn’t it? I can’t live without it either! & I’ve actually yet to try their deodorant. I’m gonna pick it up next!! Do you have a certain one you recommend?

  4. I’m so surprised you like Tom’s toothpaste! I’ve tried it before and couldn’t stand it at all. I thought it was disgusting, lol! I couldn’t use it now if I wanted to anyway because my teeth are so sensitive so I can only use Sensodyne ProNamel.
I’m not using Schmidt’s anymore either. πŸ˜‰ I was actually doing really well with using it, not getting anymore stains or white marks after trying different techniques for like “dabbing” it on instead of swiping it. But on Sunday, I noticed my underarms were tender and found that I had painful red rashes, swollen skin, and lumps all throughout both of them! :O I know my skin is sensitive but I feel like I shouldn’t have to worry about THAT happening, lol. So I’m going back to the stupid chemicals with Degree.

    1. We’ve been using this specific Tom’s toothpaste for years! We’ve accidentally bought different kinds a few times though & they weren’t as good. I do think the “antiplaque” part is too strong for those with sensitive teeth so it probably wouldn’t be nice for you. I’ve never tried Sensodyne!

I’m sorry you got a rash from the Schmidt’s deodorant! Ugh. I’ve read that happening to a lot of people who switch to natural. So weird! I think I’m actually gonna try the Tom’s deodorant before I go back to chemical-filled brands. πŸ˜› Fingers crossed!!

      1. Ohh I didn’t think about how a different kind wouldn’t taste the same. It just kind of put me off from Tom’s overall.

I knew a girl who used their deodorant and she was always sweating, but maybe [hopefully!!] it will work better for you! Everyone is different — Joshua has been fine with Schmidt’s unlike my personal experience with it. I’m very disappointed about it actually because it seems like the best of the natural deodorants with the reviews and it actually worked well for me before the rash. :/

        1. We didn’t like Luminous White Tom’s nor the Fennel-flavored one. πŸ˜›

OH MY GOSH. Okay, I won’t try that deodorant. I don’t want to go natural anymore because I need to smell better LOL.

          Liked by 1 person

    1. I KNOW! I’ve tried a TON & I honestly smell now… I need to go back to chemical-filled ones real quick before I try any more lol. πŸ˜›

Tom’s Toothpaste is the best! I am wondering if maybe you grabbed a ‘fennel’ flavored one because we made that mistake once & couldn’t even finish the tube, yuck lol.

    1. I knooooow. It hurt to throw away such full products but, I couldn’t imagine ever using them because they didn’t work out for me. πŸ˜› I love seeing what people use & throw out, too! SO happy you enjoyed my first one. ❀

      Liked by 1 person

    1. It had a really strong perfume-scent so I never even got to try it. I’m just sensitive to smells but you may like it! I’ve read great reviews on the performance. πŸ™‚

    1. Ugh, it hurts to throw away products that I’ve used just once but it just takes up space if we aren’t using it, right??

So glad you enjoyed this post!! I’m gonna save my Empties again for another one. πŸ˜€ ❀

  5. That tarte h2O hydrating booster was soooooo goood! I got a small sample size as a bday gift from sephora a long time ago and I went through that thing pretty quick lol
I love Tom’s of Maine toothpaste, it’s my favorite I havent bought another brand I like better. Then again I do use fluoride free. Not my current one for sensitivity unfortunately lol.
So I still have that makeup remover I think I’m putting off using it because it’s that good lmao jk it just comes in handy when I need to go out.
I still want to try a body butter. I wonder if the weather made it feel oily? I’m not really sure what kind of weather you guys have over there, is it still warm during the winter??
I have that schmidt’s deodorant I’m still not sure about it either I hope I dont have to get rid of it and buy a new one 😦
I also really liked the L’Oreal Elvive hair oil. It made a huge difference for my hair. I use it every time I wash my hair.
You’re throwing away lots of products, I’m impressed!

    1. I agree!! I really liked the Tarte H2O Hydrating Booster. I wish I had a bigger sample lol. We’ve been using Tom’s of Maine for years & just gag at other toothpastes now… they all seem so sweet & not as refreshing, right??

LOL I was crying a little bit when I had to use my last drops of that makeup remover. I might just have to buy a bigger version of it now.

I kind of miss my body butter now that I’m trying new body lotions out. Nothing has been better yet. & in the winter, it’s pretty cold over here– like 40s-50s. It wasn’t super oily but, it like made my skin stick for a little, y’know??

Ahhhh, all deodorants are failing me. I’m starting to feel like I need to go to the doctor LOL.

I think my hair isn’t thirsty for that oil so it made it more greasy. I also just really disliked the scent. πŸ˜›

& THANK YOU! It hurt to throw out so many products, especially ones that were barely touched, but it had to be done to make room for more that I’ll actually use, right?!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Yeah something about them isn’t the same, maybe we’re just used to the Tom’s one lol.
I will do research of a dupe or something for that makeup remover. I’m running out of mine too! Hopefully the Bliss one works just as well if not better because its an affordable brand.
LOL that’s not that cold but since you guys spend most of the year in heat I can imagine that 40 to 50s feel very cold. Haha just like in CA haha
I feel the same way! I have tried countless and nothing works, I sometimes wonder if the ingredients is what is making them not work, like some have aluminum or whatever you know? What if that’s a key ingredient or something? Maybe I should try some home remedy..
Exactly! Make room for what’s incoming and/or gets used a lot. I am having to put some stuff aside too. Some I’ll be giving it to my mom.. The rest probably throw aways. I will have to do another declutter when I get my next BoxyLuxe or something LOL

        1. Ooh okay! Let me know if you do find a good dupe for the makeup remover. πŸ™‚ Lol CA is pretty cold to me, too. I guess the 120 degree summers made me a little more sensitive.

I have seen a lot of DIY deodorants. I would def be interested to know if you end up trying one!

I can’t wait to see your next declutter. πŸ˜€
