Journal Entry #223

Hey babes! I know it’s only been one day since I haven’t posted but, skipping even one day feels a little weird to me. I wanted to write this journal entry yesterday but, I had a bit of a headache and I must admit, I’m sooort of addicted to reality competition shows right now. It’s not even just the baking and cooking anymore. I’ve gone on to modeling and physical challenges, too.

Saturday night, before I went into work, boyfriend and I stopped for a drink together. I actually kept it to one drink this time and didn’t have another one at work until about an hour or two into my shift. I really enjoyed the level I was on. Not drunk or even tipsy, just loose. πŸ™‚

I thought I had worked until 4 AM, which technically, I did but… in actuality it was only 3 AM because of the whole time moving forward thing. How do I always forget and become confused?

Sunday was a special day!! I met a fellow blogger for the first time, ever. πŸ˜€ We had planned to meet at a Japanese izakaya restaurant that I hadn’t been to before but, I realized they didn’t open until 5:30 PM. When boyfriend and I woke up around 3:30 we were already starving and I felt bad because I had told Julie we would meet at 4 the day before so instead, we went to Ichiza, another izakaya restaurant, that opened earlier at 5 PM.

Boyfriend and I had been once before but, that was in 2017 so it has escaped his memory by now *eye roll.* We made it there a smidge past 5 but Julie and her son were awesome enough to grab us a table.

After seeing photos of them and getting to know her on her blog for the past year and a half, it didn’t feel like it was our first time meeting. I wasn’t nervous and felt like I could be myself. It was more like we were old friends who hadn’t seen in each other in awhile!

We sat down, looked over the menu, and ordered a bunch of different foods to try and share.

First up, we had the fried octopus. ❀ If you’ve had calamari before, it’s almost the same but, not as chewy.

We also got an order of their yellowtail sashimi. It wasn’t as fresh as I was hoping for and the slices were a bit thicker than I prefer but, still really good.

Our favorite order was the grilled whole squid!!! It was absolute perfection. The sauce was so nice and it was cooked extremely well. I love the head and leg pieces but, the body is definitely the best.

The beef tataki was another favorite. When we first had it in 2017, I was nervous because I didn’t know it was supposed to be cold but, now that I was aware… oooh man, did it melt in my mouth… mmm, every piece was just spectacular.

Then, we got the asparagus wrapped in bacon– there were 3 skewers so we gave one to Julie, boyfriend got one, and I got one. They were split between us before I could take a photo so, sorry I took one on my dirty plate! I probably don’t even have to say it but, these were delish.

Lastly, we had the Tom Yum ramen with added shrimp. It was alright but, not the best… it didn’t have that “tom-yummy” flavor at all.

Julie and her son shared a bowl of their regular Miso veggie ramen and not one of us at the table liked it. The broth was just terrible. They also ordered takoyaki, croquettes, rice balls, and a Japanese beer that came with a salmon salad! (You can read her blog post: here if you’re interested in seeing her food photos from Ichiza.)

On the way into the restaurant, I noticed we were right next door to Crown Bakery which has been bookmarked on my Yelp app for ages. I asked if they wanted to stop in when we finished eating. They agreed, we all went in and got ourselves some baked goods!!

There were tons and tons of options but, everything had dairy in it. Unfortunately, I had to limit myself. 😦

Boyfriend chose the cheese danish and I got two trios of macarons. We both also got a shot of hot espresso.

The brown ones were coffee and the green ones were green tea. Julie’s son bought the chocolate ones so we also got to try those.

My favorite were the green tea ones but as Paul Hollywood would definitely say if he tried them, “these were all over-baked” lol. I like my macarons a bit chewier. We waited to eat the danish at home because we wanted to heat it up in the oven. (We ate it last night and the pastry was wonderful– super flaky and buttery but the cream in the middle was too sweet for me, not very cheesy-flavored, and it was just too thick.)

It was cold and windy outside so after some discussion, we agreed to do something indoors. We had never been to the The Midway in Circus Circus before and we thought Julie’s son would be up for it. Luckily, he was!!

When we got there, boyfriend and I were regretting only getting one shot of espresso. We wanted to go to Starbucks to get more but, for some reason, they were closed? Across the way from the Starbucks though, was a little anime shop. Her son is super big on all that jazz so we browsed through there for a minute. There were so many cute knick knacks to look at!! But… boyfriend and I still needed our espresso!!

We went on our way to The Midway and thankfully, came across a Krispy Kreme. They freakin’ charged us $5 each for one measly shot of espresso and the line was moving extra slow. Boyfriend also grabbed a chocolate frosted, custard-filled donut.

When we made it to the arcade, we immediately looked for a change machine to turn our bills into quarters. Right next to the machine, there were these carnival games. We were sucked into the balloon popping one because it looked so easy, like everyone else was winning. We didn’t believe it took a combined $12 (winning popped balloon shot by ME, by the way) to get the big lion plushie for her son (or his girlfriend πŸ˜‰ ).

When we eventually tired of playing games, her son chose some prizes and we headed back to our cars and parted ways!! We had so much fun together and I’m even more excited to meet other bloggers in the future now. πŸ˜€

Boyfriend and I still had to stop at the dispensary when we left Circus Circus. When we got home, I wrote my Recipe Reviews and then, I spent the rest of my night watching this show called Fit for Fashion on Netflix and I finished reading Emmy & Oliver before I fell asleep.

Yesterday, I woke up around noon and realized that my Aunt Flo was here for her visit! Woohoo! I am so happy to have her!!

I stayed up and read some blogs but, fell back asleep at almost 2 PM. Boyfriend had been asleep the whole time but, we both awoke together at around 3:30 PM. I had to quickly find recipes, make a grocery list, and take a shower so we could head out to Sprouts and have dinner ready before we both got extra hangry. We had another successful shopping trip and we now have tons of yummy foods filling up our cupboards, fridge, and freezer… it’s the best feeling ever, isn’t it?

Before and after dinner, I just continued to watch all kinds of different reality competition shows on both Netflix and Hulu. I wonder if that’s why I got the headache??

In bed, I watched funny videos of spoiled kids not getting what they want for presents until I fell asleep. Why was it cracking me up so hard? Am I evil? I don’t know lol.

Today, boyfriend woke up earlier than me. I have no idea at what time. He had already cleaned up half the apartment and was mopping the floors? It was around 3 PM when I rolled out. πŸ˜›

I took a shower and then, opened up my Ipsy Glam Bag! Boyfriend had went and got it out of the mailbox for me when I was showering. (Trust me, I don’t know what I did to deserve him, either!)

Another thing I got in the mailbox was the April issue of Marie Claire. There was a separate letter connected to it informing us that Seventeen magazine is no longer. They will only be internet-based now!! How crazy is that? I have been reading Seventeen since before I was even 17!!!

I took photos of the items I got in my Ipsy on the balcony in a tank top with my hair wet. I wasn’t even a little cold nor hot. Ahhh!! Spring time is finally here!!! ❀

We smoked a blunt when I came in then, boyfriend started on dinner while I checked my notifications on here. He realized we were out of chili powder when we thought we had some so, in the middle of cooking, he had to go to the store to grab some. I finished checking my notifications then, I started watching the baking show while I waited for him to get back and for dinner to be ready.

Food was yummy and the episode ended only 10 minutes after I finished eating. I started typing this right when it was over and NOW, I’m done lol.

I’m designating the rest of my night to reading blogs and starting a new book. I hope you all have a wonderful week. πŸ™‚

  1. No more Seventeen magazine?!?! Nooo! Even I’ve been reading it since I was younger than 17, ha! I haven’t had a copy in years now, but was always warmly comforted by the knowledge that they’re out there somewhere, delighting teenagers every where.

p.s.: The headache might have been due to the TV watching, yes. Been there.

    1. I know! So crazy that there will be no more hard copies made but at least, they will still have a website. πŸ™‚

I wonder why watching TV all day causes headaches?! It’s so relaxing lol.

  2. Holy crap that food looks AMAZING! I also love that you met a fellow blogger. I love that you include these diary entries into your blog because it’s a really great way to get to know the person behind the writing. I just always wonder what the heck you do for a job πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ my elderly self is over here thinking there’s no way I’d be able to work so late lol

    1. The food was really good & it was such a pleasure meeting a fellow blogger. πŸ™‚ I am so happy to hear that you like these journal entries! I’m an exotic dancer & it’s getting hard for me to work so late, lol.

  3. How fun that you and Julie got to meet!! I love that you weren’t nervous at all. I would definitely be super nervous if I met a fellow blogger, haha. But that’s me, I’m painfully shy. πŸ˜‰ That food looks delicious!
It’s absolutely the best feeling to come back from a shopping trip and have everything stocked up again. I was just telling Joshua that after our last shopping day! It’s so nice to see the fridge full and know we have everything for the week lol.
I was thinking it was spring too and then we got more snow last night! I’m about ready for the change in seasons haha.

    1. I was nervous before I met her but not while I was with her. πŸ™‚ There was no reason to be! I hope that if we ever meet I can make you feel the same way!! & yesss, the food was really wonderful. ❀

Hehe, I am so glad you agree that filling up the kitchen is one of the best feelings. πŸ˜€ Almost nothing beats it, right!?

It rains every other day here, it seems but isn't that what spring is?! I'm ready for the nice weather but not the darn allergies. πŸ˜›

      Liked by 1 person

      1. That’s true, there really isn’t any reason to be nervous. I guess I’m always like super self-conscious about making a fool of myself or something lol. But if we ever meet, obviously we have already talked numerous times so it wouldn’t really be a first impression. πŸ˜‰

Indeed!! It’s so nice to see the fridge full and know that we aren’t going to run out of anything soon. The grocery bill is the painful part, but after that it’s just fantastic haha.

Oh my gosh, I’m already dying with allergies! The juniper bushes are blooming and there’s about a million of ’em in our complex. Apparently I’m allergic lol and they are killing me–even with the snow! >.<

        1. Aw yeah, never! You couldn’t make a fool of yourself in front of me, I promise. ❀

LOL yeah, the grocery bill each month is probably more than our rent but, it's worth having the kitchen fully stocked up. πŸ˜€

Ahh, so sorry your allergies are already acting up!! Hopefully you can get away from them when you move!!

  4. What?!?! I tune out of WordPress blogs for a couple of weeks and everyone’s meeting one another! πŸ™‚ So excited you all got to meet one another and what great dinner choices you made. They look amazing!

Wow – Seventeen is not going to be printed anymore? That’s crazy! It makes me feel old. That said, I’m actually seeing pretty great articles coming out of Teen Vogue of all things. But maybe my politics are showing a wee bit here. πŸ˜‰

    1. LOL! Nice to see you’re back from your break, Todd!! πŸ˜€ It was fun meeting Julie & our dinner was really tasty!!

Yeah, it’s crazy that Seventeen won’t be printed anymore but I guess teens nowadays are more into the internet anyways. I don’t know anything about Teen Vogue but I know we have the same view in politics so I bet I would think whatever article you’re talking about is great, too. πŸ˜€

  5. What?! Starbucks was closed?? I didn’t think they EVER closed! There be strange things afoot.

I’m glad your meeting with Julie went well! The thought of meeting other bloggers makes me nervous for some reason, but there are some people on WP who seem like they’d be really cool to hang out with in real life – such as you and your boyfriend.

    1. It was REALLY strange because like 4 baristas were behind the counter, just counting money but they were all blocked off & not accepting orders. 😑

It was a little nerve-wracking at first, but Julie & I have been friends for over a year now. We both blog almost daily & occasionally text so it really seemed as if we knew each other already! I’d like to think boyfriend & I are pretty cool to hangout with πŸ˜‰ I’m glad you think so!! ❀

      1. That Starbucks fiasco does sound really weird…maybe they messed something up with the money?

I think if I were going to meet any other bloggers I’d have to know them really well, like you and Julie. I’m not trying to end up in a trunk…in several pieces.

        Liked by 2 people

        1. Yeah maybe someone conned them out of some money? I don’t know, but it was annoying! Starbucks can’t close down lol.

I totally get what you mean but always meet in a public spot first, no matter how well you think you know someone!

  6. Oh man…it’s 11:38pm here and too late for a snack and now I’m starving seeing all the yummy food you shared with Julie and her son. Also I’ve already brushed my teeth and I can’t eat anything after I brush my teeth because of that nasty minty taste. Do they make a toothpaste that has ZERO flavor? If so I will buy it.

Hahahaha I can hear Paul Hollywood saying those were over baked. God I love him.

I reeeeeeeally want the cheese danish more than any of the other foods. Mmm!!!!!

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Lol it is never too late for a snack, is it?! But, I do agree that food tastes pretty bad after brushing your teeth! I would feel weird if toothpaste didn’t have flavor though, wouldn’t you?

LOL I love Paul, too & that you could also hear his voice saying it!!

The cheese danish was super buttery and visibly flaky. πŸ˜‰

  7. Which modeling/physical competition shows are you enjoying?! I’d love to check them out!

Also, I would have had NO idea about the time change if DJ hadn’t told me the night before. It always messes me up so much- I think I’m still recovering!

I saw that you met Julieh! So awesome! Sounds like such an amazing time. And goodness gracious- allll the food y’all ordered looks PHENOMENAL. Especially that octopus— oh . yum. Such a bummer that bakery didn’t have any dairy free gems, but those macarons you found look mighty tasty!

Having a full pantry/fridge/freezer full of groceries really is the BEST feeling- I think of you now whenever I do my big trips and try a little bit of everything right away haha.

Thanks for ending my night with such a fun update!

    1. Lol okay so I am enjoying this one called Fit for Fashion on Netflix right now. I think boyfriend secretly likes it, too, because I’ll catch him looking over & asking “who got eliminated?” lol. Sadly, there are only 2 seasons though & I’m already almost done with it!

So crazy when the time changes like that, isn’t it?! I am happy that the sun is setting later now though because of it. πŸ™‚

Meeting Julie really was awesome!! Hopefully one day it will be us eating all the food together. πŸ˜€ I was disappointed but not that surprised that the bakery didn’t have anything dairy-free but, glad I tried some things anyways!

Lol, aww, I love that you thought of me. ❀ ❀ Thanks for stopping by, babe!!!

      Liked by 2 people

      1. Ohhh that sounds great- anything with “elimination” and I’m in! haha.

I agree! We weren’t eating in the dark today for dinner at 6:30 pm & I was like- what is this phenomenon?!

        Yesss pleasseee!

  8. How cool that you got to meet a fellow blogger, Hunida!! I love the fact that blogging can bring people together in that way! It sounds like y’all had a really nice time! πŸ’›

The food that you ordered looks amazing, especially the fried octopus and beef tataki!! Of course, I read your post right before dinner. I’m hungry now LOL!

Omg, I had no idea they weren’t publishing Seventeen magazine anymore!! Aww, that’s kind of a bummer! I guess most people do read articles online mostly, though. I’m feeling nostalgic now thinking about all the magazines my friends and I read during sleepovers or just hanging out in general. Also reminded me of those J-14 magazines/posters with Zac Efron, the Sprouse twins, and the Jonas Brothers. Good times!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

    1. It was so lovely meeting, Julie! It’s crazy that we met each other through blogging & actually met in real life. I remember back in the day when it was taboo to meet “internet friends.”

Girl yes, the octopus & beef were both yummy!! Good choices!! I hope you had a nice dinner. πŸ™‚

Yeah, I can’t believe there will be no more Seventeen magazines on the shelves anymore! But I guess, yeah, kids that age are reading everything online nowadays. πŸ˜› I so remember the J-14, too. & Quizfest! There were so many fun ones! I loved getting those posters hahaha. ❀

  10. I’m hooked on the final table right now, the great British bake off is a bit slow for me but it’s still interesting to watch. I also like nailed it lol.
As for other competition shows, I’ll have to come across more lol.
How awesome that you got to meet another blogger!!! I remember meeting one for the first time (Mackenzie) and it was the coolest thing ever seeing her in person. So fun how we get to know these people online but their presence is much better.
And I love that you guys went to an izakaya. Those are my fave!!
Ah macarons! I’ve only had less than a handful my entire life and they’re so amazingly good! I love them!
I love that you guys found an anime shop I would have loved to see it 😁
I love that you guys got to hang out pretty much the rest of the night. I definitely cant wait to meet you too! πŸ™‚

    1. LOL I finished all the episodes of Final Table in like 3 days. I loved it. I get what you mean about the British Baking Show being too slow, it definitely isn’t as exciting as other competitions. Another blogger loves Nailed It too. I’m gonna check that one out next!

It was like, whoa! She popped outta the screen, right? Lol it was so cool meeting her. πŸ˜€ & yesss, I can’t wait until one day it is hanging out!!!

I love izakayas too but boyfriend is a bit fussy about them because he likes BIG meals lol. Macarons are so delicate and delicious!!! & you totally would have loved that anime shop. There were so many cute figurines and such.

      1. We finished it last night. So good. I would have wished Darren to have won, but who am I kidding? They’re all very deserving.
Ah yeah lol. I just like the fact that you can order a bunch of food because they’re all small portions but you get to try all kinds of dishes at once if that makes sense. Lol.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. REALLY!? I was so glad Darren didn’t win LOL. He was so bothersome to me & boyfriend. We hated on him the entire time. We were like “anyone but him!!” πŸ˜› I could tell he was a magnificent chef but just the stuff he said & the way he acted was annoying. I knew his partner carried him through all those rounds!! They WERE def all deserving though.

Yeah, I’m with you!! I love izakaya & tapas, etc. but boyfriend… blah lol.

          1. Lol really? I felt differently. I felt as though they worked quite well together and they each brought their own strengths to the team and ideas and concepts. I was also kind of impressed by the Aussies that they got through so many challenges. Especially the mexico one. They had absolutely no idea what a taco was and they passed with flying colors!! Lol. I would have been happy had they one of them won as well. My gosh I was so hooked on the show I hope they make a second season lol. The insane amount of skill and technique blew me away.

            Liked by 1 person

            1. Yesss!! I loved the Aussies. ❀ I really hope they continue to make more and more seasons!! I thought at the end all the chefs at the Final Table would compete though. That would've been cool.

  11. Girl, I am just now reading your blogs since I got home! We had a blast meeting you guys! My son said that he didn’t expect you to look like you do. Maybe he thought bigger? Who knows what teenagers think. 🀣
