UnREAL (2015-2018)

04 Seasons, 38 Episodes

IMDb Synopsis:

A behind-the-scenes look at the chaos surrounding the production of a dating competition program.

My Review: I have never watched The Bachelor nor The Bachelorette but, I assume UnREAL was a (maybe semi) fictional exploitation of it. The main character, Rachel, is a producer on a huge dating show called, Everlasting. Privately, she hates her job and is going crazy but, on set, she is the one they all depend on to get everything done. She knows what America wants to see and she always makes it happen… no matter what. Her relationship with Quinn was my favorite part to follow along with. All side characters were interesting and had the most craziest stories. I enjoyed how the cast changed every season like a real dating show but, the crew behind the scenes were always the same and they always had more secrets to be revealed. There was not a single boring moment in this entire series, I was completely captivated from episode one. I honestly wish the end didn’t ever have to come but, it was the perfect way to go. I get that it had to be done.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

Star (2016-Present)

02 1/2 Seasons, 39 Episodes

IMDb Synopsis:

A trio of women form a musical group in Atlanta.

My Review: I said “02 1/2” seasons because only 9 episodes of Season 03 have aired and the rest are coming out in March. Star, both the show and the character, have my heart. I mean, I love love love Alex and Simone, too, but… Star. ❀ She has so much passion! I see it in her movements, in her facial expressions, the way she sings, talks… performs. Wow. If there’s a scene where something happens and I know it’s going to hurt her when she eventually finds out– I am already hurting for her and holding back the tears. Does that even make sense? I want so badly for her to get what she wants every time. I am always on her side. I also like every single one of the other characters (especially Jahil, Lottie, and Cotton!!), there is not one I hate or would rather not see, and my heart is still broken over some deaths that occurred. I am so looking forward to the rest of Season 03 to air.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

Future Man (2017-TBD)

Season 02, 13 Episodes

IMDb Synopsis:

Josh Futturman, a janitor by day and a gamer by night, is recruited by mysterious visitors to travel through time to prevent the extinction of humanity.

My Review: If you like time traveling and hilarious superheroes, watch this show. It’s a quick 30 minutes per episode and it has two seasons now. If you’re interested, I reviewed the first season: here. The second season starts off right where the first one left off. The three “superheroes” aren’t together right away so, the first couple of episodes are specifically focused on each one of them and “who they are.” It helped us get to know the members of the trio separately and more intimately. It was less about Josh and more about the loyalty between him, Wolf, and Tiger. He still steals the show every time he’s on screen but, this season had way more emphasis on their bond and friendship. I was constantly cracking up during every episode. The humor is so great– funny lines are said out of nowhere and I truly appreciate that!! It’s as short as a sitcom but, it feels more like an hour long show with how much you connect to the characters and plotline. I do hope if there’s a third season that they won’t stay where they are at the end of season two. If the show decides to go that route, I feel it could get boring. And gosh, what the heck was that, Seth Rogen? He was so over-the-top.

Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce (2014-2018)

02 Seasons, 26 Episodes

IMDb Synopsis:

Follows a best-selling author of a self-help book series who is secretly hiding her separation from her husband as she starts to navigate her life as a single woman in her 40s in Los Angeles. She starts to side with and take advice more from her divorced friends rather than her married ones, and it leads her to some unexpected and life-changing experiences.

My Review: Oh my gosh, Abby (the main character) gave me such a headache… how fake can one woman be!? She actually made me really mad and I admit, I enjoyed watching her life come spiraling down each time it did. It was sad how abruptly Lyla was cut out of this show because her character was so interesting. Phoebe was definitely my fave out of the bunch, though I also liked Jo. I was really happy with who Phoebe ends up with at the end of Season 02 and fingers crossed the relationship that seemed to be blooming for Jo goes strong, too. I also freaking loved Jake, he is so sexy in a dad kinda way. I would have watched Seasons 03-05 if they were ALL available on Netflix… but they’re not so I’m looking for something new now. There really is not much to this show anyway, it’s almost exactly like Sex and the City but, all of the women have children (minus one, Delia, whom I hated) and live in Cali instead of NY. But hey, I liked Sex and the City a lot, too.

    1. UnREAL was so good. I liked that there weren’t too many seasons and the last episode was really the ending, not a cliffhanger. I think you’d like it, too! I’ll have to look up Men in Trees… sounds interesting. πŸ™‚

  1. I haven’t watched any of those shows but it looks like the Girlfriends one is also on Amazon Prime Video if you have Prime. I just happened to notice that when I clicked your link over the IMDB. I like to click over to see who plays the characters that you mention.

  2. I don’t have Hulu so I can’t enjoy the first two shows you spoke about…but…I just started watching You on Netflix! Only two episodes in, and let’s just say that I’m intrigued πŸ˜‰. Have you watched it yet??

      1. Haha! There are a lot of voiceovers for sure, but if you stick with it, it sucks you in. Or at least that’s what happened to me! It’s a weird one; it’s kinda funny, but really dark & eerie at the same time.
