Ipsy Glam Bag | January 2019

Hey, guys!! GUESS WHAT! I have finally been taken off the wait list for the Glam Bag PLUS! I will be getting my first box next month and I just cannot wait. πŸ˜€ I did choose to continue receiving this regular Glambag, too… after the past two amazing months, I’m not quite ready to give it up yet (if, ever)!

As usual, let’s start with my thoughts on the bag. I love it, it’s adorable. I plan to buy pants with this pattern on them in the summer. That being said, I felt it wasn’t right for the month of January… AND it was too small so the two products that didn’t fit inside were haphazardly stuffed into the main big pink envelope it comes in. Nothing was damaged or anything; it just appeared messy to me.

What Was In My Bag?!

Illamasqua
Coloring Pencil Lip Crayon in Lust

Ipsy’s Description

This creamy lip liner is so versatile. It prevents lip colors from bleeding, smudging, and smearing. The your-lips-but-better rose shade works with literally all of your lip colors.

Like all of Illamasqua’s gorg products, this one isn’t tested on animals.

My Thoughts & First Impressions

I’ve not used this on my lips yet but, oh man, it was smooth and creamy when I drew the line on my wrist. The tip was as a soft as a lipstick. I like the pretty shade, too.

Retail Value: ~$15.00

theBalm Cosmetics
Alternative Rock Vol. 2 Blush in Bare Minium

Ipsy’s Description

The matte, warm peachy shade (which looks gorg on all skin tones) immediately wakes up your entire face and gives you that radiant, lit-from-within glow in a snap. The formula is triple-milled, which means it’s super blendable (never streaky!) and ultra-pigmented. This product can also be worn in the crease as a transition shade to any eye look.

All of theBalm’s products are paraben-free, talc-free, and cruelty-free.

My Thoughts & First Impressions

I was most disappointed to receive yet another product by theBalm Cosmetics. I’ve never once gotten something I actually liked by the brand. From my December bag, I tried the Greg Bronzer and it was terrible. There was so much fallout and it took a ton of brush strokes and product to make it really show up on my cheeks…

Full-Size Retail Value: $27.50 (only included in a palette)

Kasca
Nail Polish in Velvet Black Matte

Ipsy’s Description

This inky formula goes on totally opaque (sans streaks), won’t chip, and dries quickly. It has a unique wide brush for easier-than-ever application. It’s also great for your nails.

This 15-free formula is made with high-quality ingredients that might be hard-to-pronounce but are never harmful.

My Thoughts & First Impressions

I always have the hardest time with black nail polishes. This time, was no different. I kind of have to blame it on the brush. It was too wide for my nails and I couldn’t get the sides or corners without smudging my skin. I did really love the formula though. It dried extremely fast and turned into a matte finish almost immediately. One layer was enough, it was completely opaque. Any chipping and messiness is probably my fault.

Retail Value: $8.53

SLMissGlam
SB68 Eye Brush

Ipsy’s Description

This shade brush is fab for smudging liner or shadow along your lower lash line, or blending deep shadow shades into your crease to make your eyes pop. The synthetic bristles pick up all kinds of pigments and blend them seamlessly.

My Thoughts & First Impressions

I was sooo excited to see another brush!! I would never cancel my subscription if I was sent a new nail lacquer and a new brush every month. They’re my faves to receive lately. Plus, look how gorgeous this one is?! I loooove the sparkles, the jewels, the font used for the brand name, the pretty blue on the bristles… just everything. I’ve only stared at and touched it a little bit but, haven’t actually used it yet. It’d be a shame if it didn’t perform well.

Full-Size Retail Value: $65.00 (only included in a set)

H2O+ Beauty
Oasis Hydrating Treatment

Ipsy’s Description

This moisturizing treatment is like a giant glass of water for your skin with mega hydration that lasts for 24 hours. It’s infused with water-based ingredients like sea grass extract (which helps your skin retain moisture) and water lily extract (which helps condition and soften). The gel formula absorbs into your skin super fast, so you can start your makeup application ASAP.

My Thoughts & First Impressions

I like these gel formulas. The consistency is fun and cooling but, I’ve yet to try one that isn’t a bit sticky. I will vote this one as the quickest absorbing one I’ve tried so far but, still… don’t like the stickiness left on my fingertips. The scent is very interesting, too. Reminds me of a dentist’s office.

Full-Size Retail Value: $38.00 (1.7 Fl oz)

    1. You can actually request colors & ask to not receive certain brands but I guess they just don’t care about our preferences sometimes! I feel like they give me the brand I marked ‘no’ to so they can try to sway my opinion on it or something!

The black nail color is really cool & I’m in love the brush, too! πŸ˜€ ❀

    1. Yeah it smelled weird and was really sticky, huh? I’m in love with the brush! But, even though I like the color of the blush… I don’t have faith it’ll show that way on my cheeks because of past experiences with the brand!

  1. The blush looks so pretty, shame it doesn’t seem to apply well. The only product I’ve tried from theBalm is Mary-Lou Manizer but that’s because everyone loves it and it is really nice but other than that they’re not really a brand I’m interested in πŸ˜› Cute brush!

    1. I haven’t tried the blush yet! I was actually bashing that bronzer I got last time lol I just feel like this will perform the same way since it’s by the same brand and feels kind of the same, too.

I’ve heard a lot of great things about that Mary-Lou Manizer! I’m just not interested in theBalm anymore if that’s their only nice product lol. πŸ˜›

I love the brush too!! ❀

      1. Yea I remember I had an all matte palette from them and the shadows applied nicely but they creased on me, which almost never happens on me eyes (total dry skin). A deal-breaker for me!

  2. We got all different items this month! I’m getting ready to put up my post on my ipsy bag. That eye brush looks really nice and I have liked the ones I have gotten from that brand in the past. That blush looks pretty! I haven’t tried much from The Balm either, but I do like the Mary Loumanizer and the one eyeshadow that I have tried from the brand isn’t bad. I hope you like it!

    1. Oh fun, all different items?! I can’t wait to see what you got!! πŸ˜€ So happy to hear that you’ve liked previous brushes you received by SLMissGlam! Looking forward to trying it out even more now. I don’t have the highest hopes for the blush but I’ll never know unless I try it, right?!

  3. That’s so exciting that you got Illamasqua! I got an eyeliner from them in one of my first ipsy bags and I loved it. It’s not a brand that’s easy to find in Canada.
I hated getting the Balm from Ipsy too, the sample sizes are too small to get your brush in there!
That SLmisglam brush looks so pretty!

    1. I had never heard of the brand before but, this lip pencil does seem really nice. I wonder if it’s easy to find here in the US! I hope they stop sending me theBalm lol I unchecked it in my beauty profile. πŸ˜› I’m super excited about the brush!!

      1. I believe that they are from the UK, I could be wrong though. I know Illamasqua is easy to find over there!
I was getting skeptical that Ipsy even read my profile at the end of my subscription, I always got things that I had unchecked like mascaras and mini samples from the Balm xD I hope you love the brush when you get a chance to use it!

        1. Ooh interesting! I do love how Ipsy gives out so many good brands I had never of before so I can forgive them for their mishaps lol. πŸ˜› Apparently both Ipsy and Boxycharm are going to pay more attention to our profiles this year… we’ll see though lol!

  4. Loved this, Hunida!! πŸ’›Your Ipsy glambag posts are always so interesting to read. I’ve never gotten a subscription just cause I get nervous about potentially not liking some products, but I think it’s such a cool way to find out about new brands! The Illamasqua lip crayon sounds like a great product, and I love the color! How pretty! I’ve never heard of theBalm Cosmetics, but I’ll be staying away!

You’re so right about the bag! It looks super summery to me, but it’s really pretty hehe! x

    1. Thank you for reading, Nunzia!! You’re the sweetest. ❀ I agree that it's a little nerve-wracking to spend your money somewhere that you may regret but, I love trying out new products & discovering new brands. πŸ™‚ The lip crayon was so creamy, I couldn't believe it! & I really don't recommend theBalm, their packaging is eye-catching but that's about it!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that about the bag!! Lol I still like it but it's not wintery at all, right?!

  5. Oh my gosh, what a beautiful brush!! I love that they sent another one, and it’s just SO pretty! Also, I love that nail polish. I’ve wanted a matte black for awhile but I read that it’s easier to find just matte top coat. Not sure how true that is. πŸ˜‰ But either way, this nail polish looks great and the packaging is stunning. Love the bottle!

    1. I know!! I would be so happy to receive a new brush every month. πŸ˜€ Oh!! I think a matte top coat would be better too. I didn’t even get to put a top coat on this because I didn’t want the matte effect to disappear lol. & I agree!! The packaging was done really well. πŸ™‚

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I agree, I wouldn’t want the matte effect to disappear either! Matte nail polish is just the prettiest. I think they helped keep the effect cohesive with their bottle design, to impress upon customers how matte it is supposed to be lol.

  6. Cute bag, I always hated when the bag was too small. I mean they’re supposed to be makeup bags right? What would happen if the makeup doesn’t fit? Lol
And I hear illamasqua products are really good so it’s nice to hear it was very creamy.
That’s too bad that you haven’t found anything good from the balm, they have amazing products I almost wonder if it’s a bad batch or products that are about to expire?
The SLMissGlam brushes are super pretty!! I was able to snag one with my points before I cancelled and I love it! Mines a bit bigger and I use it for setting and it’s the softest ever!
Great little bag I’d say 😁

    1. I have never gotten a bag that was too small for the products of the month before! I was like “what the heck?! so messy!” lol. But you’re right, they’re supposed to be makeup bags even though none of them can even hold full-sized products? lol.

The lip liner was really nice!! I applied it all over my lips and it was so easy to use. ❀ I have heard that sub boxes will give out items that are about to expire but I'm not sure if I believe it. Is it really true?! I just don't think I'm a fan of theBalm though! Which products of theirs do you like??

I love the SLMissGlam brush! It's not only pretty but easy to use, too. πŸ™‚ I hope I can get sent some more in the future!

I was def satisfied with this bag! It was a fun one!

      1. I use some as clutches, very rarely do I use them for actual makeup, but I have a much much bigger on anyway if I need to travel.
It may or may not be true, lots of products are fully sealed, so that’s a product that hasn’t been opened and doesn’t have an expiry date until it’s opened, if that makes sense. Some of them that come boxed, I’m not too sure about LOL.
And I like one of their blushes that I have in my project pan, it’s very easy to blend in my opinion and I like the shade, just hate that Ipsy sends just ridiculously small samples. And I also like their Mary Lou Manizer highlighter, one of my faves, very finely milled.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. A few of my colleagues will carry these bags around at work as clutches, I’m always like “heyyy I have that” LOL. Ohh, okay!! So it’s better if it’s safety sealed, huh?? That makes total sense. Everyone does seem to love that Mary Lou Manizer!! Maybe you’re right & I’ve just gotten bad batches or the fact that the sample is too small is causing issues. Who knows? πŸ˜› Lol.

          Liked by 1 person

          1. Yeah, well that’s my rule. Is it sealed? GREAT! Not sealed? Can’t fully trust that lol. Especially because they’re samples, who knows when that batch was made you know?
But yeah that’s my fave highlighter. And who knows, maybe it really doesn’t work for you, not everyone is the same as well as preferences. πŸ™‚

            1. Okay I watched a video about expiring items in sub boxes. She called the actual company of a product and read off a code on the back & they were able to tell her when the palette was first made. She said you can do that with most everything you receive and that she’s never gotten anything expired before. But that is a lot of work LOL just gimme all the sealed things so I don’t have to worry. πŸ˜›

              That’s true!! ❀

  7. I thought I was the only one who didn’t like those theBalm cosmetics samples. I always hated when ipsy would send me those.

That brush is so pretty! I had that H20+ moisturizer and liked it. It is a tad bit sticky though. Have you tried the Neutrogena Hydro Boost water gel? I love that one! It’s a blue gel texture just like the H20 one, but it’s not sticky at all! I actually have oily skin, but last year I had been trying an acne treatment that ended up leaving dry patches on my skin. So I tried the water gel, and it cleared up the dry patches right away. I’ve been using it ever since.

I got a couple things in my glam bag this month that I really like. I need to try to get a blog post up about it. I haven’t blogged in three weeks because I’ve been working longer hours and have been pretty tired lately.

    1. Ahhh finally!! I’m so happy you agree with me about theBalm!! I just don’t think their products are that great! I didn’t check them off as “a brand I love” in my beauty profile so I don’t get why Ipsy keeps giving me their stuff!

I actually just ran out of my main moisturizer so I’ve been using the H20 one and I am loving it more and more! I try not to buy products that aren’t cruelty-free but I’ll look for the Neutrogena one in the store since I really like the gel texture!

Aww I can’t wait to see what you got in your glambag when/if you do get to posting it. I’m sorry to hear you’ve been having to work longer hours (or congratulations if you wanted the hours!) but, I totally understand that you’ve been tired! I hope you can get some days off or something soon. ❀
