Leap! (2016)

IMDb Synopsis:

An orphan girl dreams of becoming a ballerina and flees her rural Brittany for Paris, where she passes for someone else and accedes to the position of pupil at the Grand Opera house.

My Review: While this film wasn’t set during Chrstmas time, it’s a super sweet animation perfect for the season. It’s a story about chasing your dreams and getting what you want, no matter what. It’s also a love story– which you know I am just a sucker for. The ending had me all teary-eyed and the rivalry, mishaps, and bumps-in-the-roads kept me engaged. The Paris backdrop was beautiful and romantic! It was really such a lovely film. One to watch with the whole family this season, for sure.

How Sarah Got Her Wings (2015)

IMDb Synopsis:

Good Samaritan Sarah Fitzpatrick has a fatal accident just before Christmas, and finds herself in the lobby before the gates of Heaven. Certain that she will be let in, she is shocked to find that her name is not on the reservation list. However, she is granted the chance to return to Earth as an “angel in training” with the requirement to help a soul in need. Sarah has the 12 days before Christmas to secure her place on the list leaving her in the race for her after-life.

My Review: Okay, at first this film reminded me of Just Like Heaven (with Mark Ruffalo and Reese Witherspoon) but, this was the even more cheesy Christmas version. I watched this because I recognized the lead actress from The Carrie Diaries (as Samantha). She is not that great of an actress, in my opinion but, she is cute and fun so I like to watch her.

I love the whole trying to right-your-wrongs storyline that this film followed with its own flavor. There could have been MORE romance for Sarah involved and her ending was a bit too far-fetched but, HEY, it is a Christmas film, right? There’s no such thing as a “too happy” ending!!

The Princess Switch (2018)

Netflix Synopsis:

One week before Christmas, Margaret, the gorgeous Duchess of Montenaro, switches places with Stacy, a “commoner” from Chicago, who looks exactly like her. With the assistance of a magical Santa’s helper, Margaret falls in love with Stacy’s handsome co-worker, while Stacy falls in love with Margaret’s fiance, the dashing Prince.

My Review: I know I’ve said it before but, I love Vanessa Hudgens! She was fantastic playing the two different roles.

“The switch-a-roo” should have lasted more than two days. I wanted more memories made and the connections to go a little deeper. Everything seemed too rushed but, of course, I was still clapping at the perfectly tied-up ending.

The Holiday Calendar (2018)

IMDb Synopsis:

A struggling but talented photographer inherits an antique holiday advent calendar, the contents of which seem to predict the future. Will this magical calendar lead her to love this holiday season?

My Review: A sweet best-friend-love-triangle story line with a little magic, attractive characters, and a vintage advent calendar– there’s nowhere you can go wrong! I was especially in love with the advent calendar itself, it is so gorgeous. I would love to have one just like it. The Christmas magic and love in this film were so alive, it’s a good one to play while wrapping gifts or snuggling on the couch.

Life-Size 2: A Christmas Eve

IMDb Synopsis:

Grace is a hot mess in the middle of a quarter-life crisis, realizing that she is in over her head as a toy company’s CEO. To make it worse, her wild-child ways are causing the company’s stock to plummet.

My Review: I cannot put into words how much I loved this film! I was choked up and teary-eyed with excitement the whole time I watched it. I especially loved the Sunnyvale parts, they were so funny. The cast was phenomenal, too, I loved every single one of them and the parts they played. The little “adult jokes” were perfectly innocent enough for kids to look over but, quick enough for the adults to catch a giggle. The ending was the best, ever.

  1. My favourite Christmas movie is from the 1940s- a movie with Barbara Stanwyck called Christmas In Connecticut.

In terms of recent Christmas films, I suppose my favourite is Love Actually from 2002 that starred Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson and Alan Rickman among many other acting greats.

    1. My boyfriend rarely lets me put Harry Potter on anymore… lol. I will have to pop them in when he’s at work before the season ends! πŸ˜‰ Lol, I love both Nightmare Before Christmas & Scrooge. ❀

  2. I haven’t seen How Sarah Got her wings or Christmas calendar but I loved the other movies. Leap has Emma wanting to do ballet. Shes seen it so much she quotes the bad girl’s lines and even tries to do the show down lol

  3. I am always hesitant of animated movies for some reason, but then always end up enjoying them if I give them a shot. Leap sounds so cute (and anything with Paris I will always give a chance πŸ˜‰ ).

Ahhh I am so excited you reviewed Lifesize 2!!! Your review is motivating me even more to watch the first so I can watch this one. Thank you for sharing, Hunida!!

  4. The Princess Switch was cute, as I’ve mentioned before. I’ve never heard of the other ones though, except for Life Size 2. I never saw the first Life Size movie though, so I probably won’t be watching the sequel. Plus, Tyra Banks annoys me for some reason.

    1. I was wanting to watch The Christmas Chronicles because you said that one was even better than the Princess Switch but I saw Life-Size 2 so I had to watch it first! I may still try to fit in the Chronicles before the month ends though!

I think I see how Tyra Banks annoys you. She is not so much that way in the first one, she really acts like a barbie doll but she is more “herself” in the second & does annoying faces & stuff lol but I still love her. ❀

  5. I’m a little surprised you liked “Sarah Got Her Wings” a bit more than “The Princess Switch”! I was honestly bored with “Sarah Got Her Wings” and didn’t finish it, lol. It just seemed one-dimensional to me, haha. I did like “The Holiday Calendar,” but I thought Josh was overrated. I will definitely be watching “A Christmas Eve” too since I hadn’t heard of that one yet!

    1. How Sarah Got Her Wings had a bit of magic in it which is why I enjoyed it more. πŸ˜‰ I thought it was so cute that she had to help her ex but I do wish it was THEIR love story instead of his!! I also really wished for a bit more in Princess Switch… like I wanted Kevin to actually like the Princess. It seemed he was in love with Stacy the whole time!!

& oh man, JOSH IS DREAMY lol. He is in the show I’m watching at the moment (Star) so I immediately clicked on the Holiday Calendar BECAUSE of him. When I first saw him, I wasn’t in love but after watching him for almost 2 seasons & in the Christmas movie… I think I am now lol.

I hope you like Life Size 2!!! πŸ˜€

      1. Oh I see that! And I agree, Kevin did seem like he was in love with Stacy, even though he originally was saying she wasn’t his type. All she had to do for him to like her was just loosen up a little apparently lol. Have you seen “A Christmas Prince”? I think it’s super cute!
Hahaha yes the actor playing Josh is definitely dreamy! I just thought they could do a little more with developing his character. πŸ˜‰

        1. Right?? That means he’s always loved Stacy but was just waiting for her to get over that ex of hers! πŸ˜› & I haven’t seen A Christmas Prince yet but, I want to after seeing them watch it in the movie (which was so funny how they did Netflix for real on their TV hahaha).

OOH! I totally agree about how they could have developed his character better & maybe included him in more scenes!! He didn’t even do much– he just waited for her to realize he was in love with her?

          1. Agreed! I think “A Christmas Prince” has been one of my favorites so far (including the sequel) just because it’s sweet and a bit funny. It’s obviously predictable as they all are, but a nice feel-good movie. I know I thought that was so funny when they showed them watching Netflix!! #shamelessselfpromo lol
Yeah that’s what I was thinking! He wasn’t in many of the scenes, and he was hurt when she started dating the other guy, and yet he hadn’t even asked her out himself. She clearly thought they were just friends and even mentioned the girls he’d likely been dating while traveling lol.

            1. Ooh, I didn’t know there was a sequel to A Christmas Prince!! I love the cheesiness & predictability. I think that’s what makes them so great. πŸ˜€ & seriously, I laughed so hard about them watching Netflix.

I agree 100% about the Holiday Calendar movie lol!!
