Journal Entry #163

Hi guys!! If you didn’t already know, boyfriend and I celebrated our 4-year anniversary by spending Tuesday night at Mt. Charleston Lodge only about an hour away from our place.

Check-in time wasn’t until 2PM so, we didn’t have to wake up extra early but we did still get out and about on time to catch breakfast at this cute spot called, Lou’s Diner.

We just love the old-fashioned breakfast joints so much better than those new-school ones. They’re so homey and comfortable. One waitress had blue eyeshadow and the other had blue mascara lol. I felt like I was straight set up in a movie scene.

I had a hard time deciding if I wanted waffles, pancakes, or french toast. It’s a serious dilemma for me whenever I go out for breakfast. πŸ˜›

Boyfriend usually always chooses an omelette so it was no surprise when he ordered this one:

It looked scrum-diddly-umptious but, I’m not too big on the omelettes myself so I didn’t even have a bite. He did really enjoy it though and I totally ate half of his hashbrowns because my plate didn’t come with any LOL.

I eventually decided on the french toast which came with ham, 2 eggs, and wheat toast. I gave boyfriend the wheat toast and one triangle of my french toast and then, I devoured the rest. I was surprised because I never eat when I first wake up and wasn’t even feeling that hungry… but, I guess I was!

When we were done fueling up on food and coffee, I went to the bathroom for a quick wee before hitting the road. I saw the cutest little sign in the stall that said “If you sprinkle when you twinkle // Be a sweetie, wipe the seatie”, it definitely gave me a giggle so I was hoping it might give you one, too. πŸ™‚

The drive to the cabin wasn’t really that bad at all! Our car was getting a little sad having to go up such high mountains but, she made it up alive and so did we!!

I was looking out for DONKEYS because boyfriend said there was a sign that said “watch out for donkeys crossing”… I screeched a little when he told me that and cried a lot when I never actually got to see one lol.

My tears were quickly forgotten about though when we turned into the lodge’s parking lot. I was already mesmerized and it wasn’t even time to check in yet.

We walked around a little bit but, there was really nothing to do. After taking boyfriend’s photo in front of the sign that everyone was waiting in line to photograph, we just headed back into the car to wait for 2PM to hit.

Okay, I’m sorry, but I gotta cut this post off here. πŸ˜› I promise I will fill you in on the deets SOON but, right now it’s already 9PM, boyfriend just got home with my espresso, and I’ve gotta go get ready for work!! The SEMA convention is in town and it was busy, busy last night– I can only hope for the same tonight!!

    1. Ooh, diners are really somethin’ else! I hope you’re able to experience one sometime. πŸ™‚ I was soo sad about not spotting any donkeys lol, maybe next time, eh? & the weather was sooo nice & calm yet, still a bit windy & chilly at the top of the mountains!

      1. I remember years ago in New Zealand all the Burger King stores themed their eat in part like an American 50s diner which was pretty cool! They had the red leather seats and black and white check patterns.

  1. Can’t wait to hear about the rest of your trip. The views are so lovely! I love omelette’s, but that one in the photo with that piece of unmelted cheese sticking out bothers me. πŸ˜› At least your bf enjoyed it. πŸ™‚

  2. LMFAO!!! Girl why? I was literally prepared to read how it went and you freaking cut it off short 🀣🀣🀣
Anyway one hour away isn’t too bad and I absolutely loved seeing trees in your posts, it almost reminds me of southern Oregon. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a cabin so I’m definitely excited to read about your experience in one
The breakfast looks soo good too and I’m the same way, can never pick between waffles, pancakes and French toast. I wish I could have all three. Triple threat lol.

    1. Hahaha!! I’m sorry!! It was getting so late & I couldn’t focus on writing anymore, y’know?! It’s all up now though so whenever you have the time, you can read it. ;D

It took a little bit to get to the trees but, I was so excited to see them! In the beginning of the drive, it was a lot of sand & cactus looking tree things LOL so brown & boring.

OMG, right? They should offer like one pancake, one waffle, & one french toast. I’d order it every time, no questions!

    1. It was super cute in there & the waitresses even looked the part, haha seriously just like a diner in a film! Hopefully one day you can visit one just like it. πŸ™‚ Thank you, Holly!!

  3. Ahhh happiest of all anniversaries to you two !!!

I feel ya- I loveee love the old fashioned breakfast joint feels. Growing up we used to know the name at all the local family owned restaurants because we frequented them so often. I miss that, but the occasional small breakfast joint we find makes me so happy! And Lou’s Diner is such a gem!! The food looks tremendous and that bathroom sign made me lol. Love the touches.

Sorry no donkeys made an appearance- but this place is MAGICAL. It reminds me so much of Tahoe! Cannot wait to read your next post πŸ™‚

  4. These forest pictures look SO much like Flagstaff!! It’s crazy how similar the southwest looks in various places even throughout different states. I hope you two had such a wonderful time! I would love to have a nice little cabin stay with Joshua. ❀

    1. Yeah I agree!! A lot of the states do look the same lol, it was hard to tell when we were in different ones on the way here from Minnesota.

Thank you so much!! I bet there are a lot of similar getaways near you?!

          1. Haha true, I am so happy we have a car that we can feel confident in to make trips now. πŸ˜‰ The question is more of can our budget handle the gas bill lol. But yes, I totally want to check it out, at least to see!!
