I have been following Leslie’s blog over at Les & More for awhile now. I first discovered this creative street photography blog when I participated in the Black and White Photo Challenge (one and half times) last year. The beautiful black and white photos Leslie posted on his blog weren’t part of the challenge though…
Turns out, he had a whole magnificently made hardcover book filled with these photos!
I’ve been liking and commenting on his blog posts like a little fan-girl ever since so, I was more than honored when I received an e-mail from him offering to send me a copy of this work of art!!
Leslie lives in Singapore so that’s where the photos start. (Yes, it was super cool getting mail from the Singapore post office!!). There are 5 sections of the book; all with different faces and streets representing different parts of Asia.
The back of the book features a quote from Leslie, explaining how and why he came up with his idea for it all:
“A great part of the people I photographed on the streets are vendors. They are synonymous with the streets because their livelihood are carved there. I’m intrigued by them. The spaces and stalls they run form good backgrounds for environmental portraits.”
I, too, am intrigued by these vendors now that Leslie has brought so much well-deserved light onto them. I very much enjoyed flipping through the pages, traveling through these different areas of Asia, and reading the little captions to get a feel for what was going on.
I promise he didn’t ask me to write this blog post, he genuinely sent me this beautiful gift as a “thank you for the support” kind of thing! He even hand-wrote me a note in the front and signed it. π I appreciate and love it so much I had to share it with you guys!!
