My Mini Review + Favorite Quotes From… Josh & Hazel’s Guide To Not Dating by Christina Lauren

Goodreads Synopsis: Hazel Camille Bradford knows she’s a lot to take—and frankly, most men aren’t up to the challenge. If her army of pets and thrill for the absurd don’t send them running, her lack of filter means she’ll say exactly the wrong thing in a delicate moment. Their loss. She’s a good soul in search of honest fun.

Josh Im has known Hazel since college, where her zany playfulness proved completely incompatible with his mellow restraint. From the first night they met—when she gracelessly threw up on his shoes—to when she sent him an unintelligible email while in a post-surgical haze, Josh has always thought of Hazel more as a spectacle than a peer. But now, ten years later, after a cheating girlfriend has turned his life upside down, going out with Hazel is a breath of fresh air.

Not that Josh and Hazel date. At least, not each other. Because setting each other up on progressively terrible double blind dates means there’s nothing between them…right?

I haven’t read too many Adult Romance novels in the past. I’ve picked up many and have just dropped them immediately. I finally read one of Christina Lauren’s novels last year (Dating You, Hating You) and I realized I actually could enjoy this genre. I was super excited when Goodreads e-mailed about this release of Josh and Hazel’s Guide To Not Dating.

Hazel and Josh were both so incredibly lovable. I’m a big fan of alternating POVs and it worked really well here. I enjoyed rooting for them to get together throughout the whole story. Everything that happened leading up to the end was fun and I caught myself letting out a few giggles here and there. The ending was a little unexpected and honestly, I would have preferred some of it be left out.

Like I said, I haven’t read too many novels in this genre so it’s hard for me to fairly rate and review it. I can say that it was definitely a good, light-hearted, and sexy read!

My Rating: 4 out of 5
Dates Read: October 01-October 08, 2018

“When I meet someone I love, I become an octopus and wind my tentacles around their heart, tighter and tighter until they can’t deny they love me just the same.”

“I do one more check of my outfit. I swear it’s not a vanity thing; more often than not, something is unbuttoned, a hem is tucked into underwear, or I’ve got an important garment on inside out.”

“It’s his calm center that’s a gravitational pull to my chaotic one.”

“I loved her in the way we love in high school, sort of intensely, idealistically, and without knowing each other all that well.”

“Raw emotion paints his expression. I’ve honestly never seen anyone look at me this way… it’s more than desire. It’s need.”

  1. Sounds cute! You should read some of Sophie Kinsella’s books if you decide to check out more in this genre. Twenties Girl is one of my favorites and made me literally laugh out loud a lot. Can You Keep a Secret? and Undomestic Goddess are also cute ones by Kinsella. Light and easy!

    1. All of the Nicholas Sparks novels you read fall under the Adult Romance genre. 🙂 His plotlines are usually way serious though. Christina Lauren writes light-hearted, fun stuff. Like a rom-com in book version!

      1. Hmm, two of the novels I read involved “teens” so I don’t know if I can call them adult romance novels, BUT, I think The Notebook really was… I didn’t really like that book that much? Out of the three that I read, I liked Dear John the best. LOL
Ah interesting! That actually does sound pretty good, I’ll be sure to check her out later 🙂

        1. Ohhh you’re right, The Last Song is definitely not Adult lol but, yeah The Notebook totally is! I can’t remember if I’ve ever watched Dear John but Channing Tatum is in that one, right??

                  1. I think I kind of know what I like, I’ve been reading these sci-fi, kind of books, like The Passage (trilogy) and now The Strain (trilogy), both of which are TV shows now. The Strain is an older series but The Passage will air in January 2019, I think.. Anyway, I like those kinds of books. And oh oh oh, The Andromeda Strain was good too. It’s by the same author that wrote Jurassic Park, which I also read, so those are my kind of books at the moment LMAO

                    1. I’m trying to read the first two books before I dive into the show lol. The books are so so good but I haven’t had the chance to read it very much lol.
And have you read any other fantasy books? Any you recommend? Besides HP lol.

                    2. I’ve actually never gotten through a Harry Potter book. 😛 Oops… lol I’ve only watched the films over & over.

I just finished reading the 4th installment of the Miss Peregrine’s series & I’ve loved every book so far! Highly recommend!
