Journal Entry #127

Last I wrote a journal entry it was Saturday night. Right after I published the post, I got a warning on my phone about high wind storms. As we were on the way to my work, there were traffic lights that were out of power and plenty of houses and businesses that were all blacked out – I thought maybe my place of employment would still be lit for some reason.

There were definitely still customers and dancers going into work when I got there, I walked in the building to see if the music was playing and it was… but, they told me that not everything was working 100%. They weren’t being real clear with me – as to make things seem better than they were, I assume, so I immediately called boyfriend to come back and get me.

We decided to go next door and grab a bite to eat… maybe everything would be in working order by the time we were done eating?

Boyfriend gets free drinks from the bartender who works here, so he had a couple of 7 and Coke’s but, I just asked for a bottle of water. I really think I am done and over alcohol. On Friday night, I even allowed myself a drink while at work but, I ended up ditching it somewhere when my client looked the other way.

I ordered some chicken tenders with BBQ sauce, we got some fries to share, and boyfriend had some hot wings.

While we were eating, two of my co-workers that usually only work day shift [4 PM-11 PM], came in and sat down right next us. I waved at them right away to ask about the power situation. They acted like they didn’t know me at first, or maybe they were offended that I made it known where they came from?? OR maybe they were embarrassed because I found out they date?? It was the DJ and a dancer – so maybe they were trying to keep their relationship a secret? I don’t know…

Whatever their reason, they eventually wiped their fake puzzled expressions away and the girl informed me that the power was half on but, the most important thing was that: THE AIR CONDITIONER was not running. So I was like, “oh hell nah” and picked up my first chicken wing of the night LOL. Neither of us can recall what we did when we came home?

On Sunday, boyfriend had an early AM shift. He was home around 3 almost 4 PM. We had already decided that we were doing sushi Sunday so we were both excited and ready to stuff our stomachs right when he got off work!

We, once again, went to Ono Sushi but, this time… there were two waitresses and we had the slowest service, ever. Last time we went, there was one waitress and even more customers – she did way better on her own than these two did together.

All of the previous times we had been to Ono, I had never seen the bun bao sammy on the menu! I saw it on the waitress’ tray when she brought something else I had ordered to our table and I was like “WHAT THE HELL?! I WANT THAT!!” so I read the menu VERY closely like three times until I finally spotted the “Hirashi Bun”!! It had a piece of pork belly, some lettuce, and I think some plain Hoisin sauce. I liked it.

Even though I had a scoop of Lychee Sorbet for dessert and boyfriend had an Affogato, we wanted some caffeine and a sweet drink from Starbucks.

Last week or so, boyfriend had gotten a $10 gift card from his manager for staying later than he was scheduled to – we kept forgetting to use it… but, finally, not this time!! We both wanted to try something different… so we went for the Caramel Macchiato w/ 3 shots of espresso [mine w/ almond milk, his w/ cow’s] with like half the amount of sweetness. The barista told us the macchiatos are sweetened by vanilla, which actually shocked us. We both assumed it was all the caramel’s doing.

We were not pleased with our drinks at all. Neither of us were able to finish. Sadly, we we were made to resort to a pot of the Caramel Coffee Cake by Dunkin’ Donuts at home. At least we only paid a few dollars of our own money for the macchiatos.

Oh hey!

Check out this tree that was right behind my drink – it fell on Saturday – due to those high winds my phone warned me of!:

Poor baby tree. 😦

When we got home, we spent the rest of the night catching up on Big Brother.

On Monday, we went out to a new ramen restaurant. They had just opened up recently and I’ve been meaning to go ever since. Whoever runs their social media pages had messaged me on IG inviting me and boyfriend to a free dinner at their grand opening but, it was all being held so early and we didn’t end up going.

We were both craving ramen for the first time all summer so we took the leap and tried out this new hot spot: Ramen Kobo.

I read on a Yelp review that their ‘fiery’ level of spicy was so hot that it burned her mouth and she wasn’t able to taste anything after. I blame her kind for all of the light-skinned folks who need to prove they can handle spicy foods before they are actually given anything close to it.

Right when we sat down, boyfriend had a sudden realization, “have we not been in here before?!,” I giggled because another restaurant had just opened up here in the same exact location earlier in the year;Β  we tried it out but, weren’t IN LOVE. It was definitely good – just not somewhere that I wanted to keep going back to. It was just funny to me that boyfriend could have forgotten about it so quickly!! And now, probably, so has everyone else. So sad that it lasted only less than a year!

There was a great amount of appetizers offered and as always, we had a hard time choosing one so we ended up with two…

The BBQ Pork Belly Baos:

I was a little disgusted because MAYO was used as the sauce. The pork belly and delicious bun masked it enough MOST of the time but, I had to say out loud how much it appalled me every time I could taste it.

Honestly, I would have preferred no sauce.

AND THEN… we were hit with another MAYO mishap:

We ordered the squid as our second appetizer… it was such a beautifully cooked and juicy piece!! BUT… it wasn’t seasoned nor sauced and it came with a dollop of PLAIN MAYO for dipping?! YUCK. I was not going to ruin my squid by drowning it in that so I just ate most of it plain and some of it in soy sauce with those red pepper sprinkles [most ramen restaurants have it in a shaker at their tables]. πŸ˜›

I didn’t want to have the bubble guts so I went for just a Medium Spicy Level of the Tonkotsu soup. I added some corn, spinach, and egg. Everything else I wanted was already included. πŸ™‚

Boyfriend asked for the spiciest level: Fiery of the Miso soup and was given something just as spicy if not, less spicy than my medium… UGH. Curse that lady on Yelp for ruining it for him and everyone else.

We were full after our meal but, not too full for some dessert at Gelato Bar located a few doors down.

I got one scoop of their Strawberry Sorbet flavor in a cone and boyfriend got a scoop of their Rum & Raisin in a cone [they really asked for his ID to even sample this flavor]. I also got two macaroons:

I ate the Lavender one in the car because I just couldn’t wait – I nearly had an orgasm after the first bite – it was SO PERFECT. The one pictured above is the Coffee one which also almost lead me to completion!! ;D

The previous time I had been to theΒ Gelato Bar and got macaroons, they were stale and old… but, NOT THIS TIME. Ooohh maaaan… my mouth is watering right now just thinking about them.

I did some blogging when we got home and took a hot, relaxing bubble bath before bed.

Yesterday, we went grocery shopping and then, came home and did a whole lot of nothing besides eating everything we bought… heh.

Today, we woke up at a little past 2 PM and laid in bed for a little. Boyfriend did the dishes and when the dishwasher was done, I took a shower and boyfriend cooked dinner. I watched an episode of Harlots, took off my nail polish and filed my fingernails. The dinner was done before the episode was, so I forced boyfriend to watch the rest of it with me. It ended at the exact time we were done eating. We washed up and then headed to Starbucks for our espressos because I gotta get my booty to work tonight.

I got my Ipsy bag a couple days ago but, I’m concerned about my Birchbox now. It usually comes one day before or after my Ipsy – on the tracking, it’s saying it hasn’t even left New York yet? I wonder what’s going on!

Also, I got my giveaway all sorted out now – if you haven’t entered yet, don’t forget to!! You can do so… by clicking right here!

  1. Ugh mayo is the worst condiment. I don’t know why so many people love it. I can handle it in small doses, but I much prefer not to have it.

I wouldn’t have wanted to go to work if the AC wasn’t working either. Plus, eating hot wings sounds like a much better time. πŸ˜›

    1. I know!! I hate most of those weird aiolis made out of mayo nowadays too. πŸ˜›

Right? It is over 100 degrees here so I was not trying to go die of heat exhaustion & those hot wings were definitely way better, hehe. πŸ˜€ ❀

  2. Okay Hunida, this is just getting too weird- I have been DYING and I mean on a serious mission to try a bao sandwich/taco bun. I have been Instagram saving the heck out of places in SF because I need to try one stat. So it is just too funny you posted one!

Anyways- yikes with the high wind storms! And bummer with the glitches, but at least you got to leave and get some good food ?

OMG yesssss- I am laughing to hard at your β€œblame her for the light skinned folks who need to prove they can handle spicy foods”… because every. Time! When I order I have to ask for the spiciest and there is always hardly any spice at all- I always end up dumping spice on the table into it until I can’t breathe, lol.

Why oh why Mayo with squid?! Sounds like you made due pretty well though with the soy and chili flakes- yum!

Thanks for the update, gf! XO

    1. OOh you will love a bun bao sammy when you get one. πŸ˜€ My boyfriend actually doesn’t like regular bun baos but, he loves the sandwiches!

Yeah I mean I would have liked to work Saturday night but at least I was able to eat the hot wings instead!! ;D I’m sorry that it’s hard for you to actually get spicy foods!! If I am ordering a less spicy meal to be nicer on my tummy, they automatically assume boyfriend can’t handle spicy stuff. πŸ˜›

LOL RIGHT!!? The mayo next toe squid almost made me cry. 😦 Thanks for reading & leaving such a lovely comment, Mack!! ❀

    1. You used to live in Italy? That’s so cool! ❀ The Gelato Bar where we went makes their own gelato so I know it's not really from Italy but, there are some shops around here that do say their gelato is from Italy!

  3. Haha, I love your writing voice:

“I ate the Lavender one in the car because I just couldn’t wait – I nearly had an orgasm after the first bite – it was SO PERFECT. The one pictured above is the Coffee one which also almost lead me to completion!! ;D”

I literally laughed out loud when I read those lines! It takes A LOT to get me to laugh first thing in the morning.

Also, about your negative coffee experience at Starbucks. I’ve completely given up on sweetened coffee drinks. The more complicated the drink, the easier it is to mess up. I also found that after a little while of not putting any sweetener in my coffee, I really came to enjoy the flavors of the coffee beans themselves. There are several ways to prepare coffee straight up without it tasting too bitter, such as using a French press.

And no AC? In Vegas? No thank you! I also recently heard that the vehicles that mail delivery people in Vegas have to drive don’t have AC. That’s horrendous! Postal workers shouldn’t have to drive around all day in 100+ heat without air conditioning.

Lastly, about the coworkers you ran into when you and your boyfriend were eating next door to your workplace. Their initial refusal to acknowledge you seems strange to me. If they are indeed dating, wouldn’t they have figured that sooner or later someone would find out? It’s impossible to hide that stuff forever. And I really don’t see any need for them to feel embarrassed about where they work; it’s not like they’re murdering anyone.

    1. HAHAH, aww, yay!! πŸ˜€ I’m so happy to have gotten a laugh out of you!! I couldn’t explain it any better– don’t people use the term “orgasmic”? I was going to try that word out but it didn’t seem ENOUGH lol.

I think I’m done with sweetened coffee drinks too… they always seem to displease me. I love the taste of plain coffee, I usually drink straight shots of espresso & black coffee most of the time but sometimes, I want something sweet for a little dessert treat, ya know?

Ah yesss, I’m glad you understand. It’s way too hot in Vegas for no A/C! I had NO idea that the postal drivers didn’t have A/C in their trucks!! No wonder they are so lazy with the packages– you’re right that it’s not right for them to be driving like that!! The A/C in my car is actually busted & I won’t go anywhere more than 20 minutes away LOL.

Yeah I know, I don’t know what was up with them. Maybe they weren’t faking it & I was really that unrecognizable?!

      1. Haha, I’ve used the term “orgasmic” every now and then. But when I do people usually scowl and act offended. Perhaps they haven’t had any in a long time?

Straight espresso is the way to go! I’ve developed a habit of having an espresso shot or two in the late afternoon, and then complaining about not being able to sleep at night. It’s a great way to be productive, but not a great way to keep friends.

Yea, the mail truck A/C thing surprised me too. I actually learned it from Zak Bagans’ twitter feed, because apparently he talks to everyone and always knows what’s up. The benefits of extroversion…

Maybe your coworkers were dehydrated from working in a building without A/C? One’s brain does not fire on all cylinders when dehydrated.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Hahah they are all just prudes for scowling at you. Yes! I love the energy from straight espresso. I’ve not ever heard of Zak Bagan since I’m not on Twitter! & yes you’re right they were probably exhausted & not up for chit chatting!?

    1. Haha yeah, we did do a bit of dining out but, we finally went grocery shopping & are eating at home now. πŸ˜› The squid would have been so wonderful with a better sauce… 😦 Thank you so much for stopping by!

      1. You welcome. I enjoy reading post about food as I am a foodie as well. I love eating out but unfortunately eating out here is a bit expensive especially if want a good food. There are plenty of restaurants but food is not that good. I prefer cook at home and can cook what I like and taste better than those average restaurants here. ha..ha..

  4. I have never tried a macaroon but now I’m dying to! Okay, so I’ve always wanted to but I guess I’ve just never really had the opportunity. I need to change that!
That is so strange that there wasn’t any kind of sauce or seasoning with the squid! That just seems like a weird way to serve their food lol.
I don’t even handle spice well at all but it’s so annoying to me when white people try to prove how much spice they can handle. It’s so stupid haha.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Ooh… please, treat yourself to a macaroon ASAP. It’s such a bummer how easy it is to get a bad one though. It’s like they need to be freshly baked so I hope you get a perfect one the first time you try one!
I know! Totally weird… like most restaurants don’t even just serve ketchup with fries anymore– they offer all kinds of diff sauces.
LOL I understand why white people have to prove how much spice they can handle though because most people won’t believe them until they do!

  5. I wish I could eat out this much! My bank account would hate me though haha. Those fries looked amaaaaazing and I literally laughed out loud when I read the part about the macaroons. Food is so great like that πŸ˜‚

Also, super weird about your coworkers ignoring you. What is this, middle school?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hahah I don’t think my bank account is a big fan of me either. ;D I love big fries so much more than skinny ones!! & ahhh… that macaroon. ❀ Don't get me started on it again!!

LOL RIGHT?! I kind of feel the DJ noticed me first but didn't want to acknowledge me before the girl did or she may have had a jealous fit? WHO KNOWS?! Maybe I am just really that unrecognizable/unmemorable lol.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Oh my god yessss. Skinny fries can be so disappointing since they go so fast πŸ˜‚ like matchstick fries, ugh those are the worst.

I doubt you’re unmemorable! The way you worded it definitely made it seem like she was being snobby or something. Either way, super weird.

  6. HAHAHA THAT SITUATION WITH THE COWORKERS WAS PRETTY FUNNY! How awkward tho! What’s up with them!? And omg you got to eat a kong bak pao! Its braised pork sandwiched between a man tou! MMM i love it so much! And ewwww why would they put mayo in the other place! All your food looks delish as usual! and oh gosh all the sweet treats… I’m currently drinking plain water and the temptation to go grab oreos and milk IS STRONG HAHA.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Seriously… they made it so dang awkward for no reason. I do not know the right English words for the “bun baos” lol, I have always used the Khmer word for it growing up so I never know what to type when I post pics of them. ;D What language is “kong bak pao” & “man tou” in?! Thank you for teaching me something new! ❀

I KNOW!! WHY THE MAYO, RIGHT?! 😦 😦 & heyyy… did you know Oreos are actually vegan?! LOL but they are still bad for you, sadly.

  7. Aw that poor tree! 😦 the weather can be so crazy sometimes!
How weird that your coworkers pretended not to know you at first, honestly πŸ˜‚ at least they came round in the end!
Mayo is the worst, I do not like it at all!! I would have been just as unimpressed as you but yay for the yummy ice cream and macaroons! X

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I know! Can’t believe it knocked the poor thing down like that. 😦 Lol yes… they were acting strange at first but at least I found what I needed to know! Right? Mayo is just ick!

  8. this is the weirdest thing, the power went out over here too yesterday, AND get this, a tree fell too! except in our case, the tree landed on the power lines, so half the neighborhood didn’t have power for nearly two hours… this is not just a coincidence that i just read this lol
by the way, sorry i’m so behind on your blog, i’ll be spending a bit of time here before i head to bed and catch up on the rest this weekend 😦 i’ve been really neglecting a huge part of my blogging 😦
and RAMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yumMmmmmMM!M!!!!!!!!!!!!! sucks those appetizers weren’t as good, i believe we also have gotten some mayo dip with our fried calamari, it’s not that bad unless you get a HUGE amount of it on the food then it does kind of take away the flavor of the calamari and it’s seasoned batter

    1. That’s crazy the power went out over there too! Was your home affected or just those around you?!
Aww no worries, Rossy! β™‘β™‘β™‘ Thanks for taking the time to catch up! Hope you enjoy reading! πŸ˜„
The new ramen place was pretty good except yeah the mayo! You’re right, at least it wasn’t on top of the squid! I would have cried lol!
