20 Things That Mean Summer To Me

Welcome to DAY SIX of my collaboration with Rossy and Tialla!

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, let me fill you in (if you’re a loyal follower and you already know what I’m talking about; scroll past the banner). For the ENTIRE month of June, I teamed up with the talented creators of AyRGalaxy and Tialla’s Tellings. We all have been posting at 09:00 AM (PST) every Monday and Wednesday. Sadly, there will only be TWO more posts in this collaboration:

20 Things That Mean Summer To Me

1. HOT WEATHER! SUNSHINE!

When the sun starts shining everyday and the weather stays hot, I know the summertime is here!

2. Freeze Pops

Immediately when big bins of freeze pops packed in the netted red bags start showing up in the grocery store, I throw a pack in my cart.

3. Freshly squeezed lemonade

Freshly squeezed lemon juice poured over a big glass of ice with a little bit of sugar… mmm, mmm.

4. Drive-In Movies

When my parents were still together, they would bring us to the drive-in movie theater every summer. It was always so fun running around outside before the movie started, watching the screen from the car, and listening to the sound boom through the radio.

5. Bonfires & S’Mores

When I was a teenager my friends would always make bonfires; in their backyards, or at designated parks. S’mores were made, hot dogs and slices of pizza were roasted, alcohol was consumed, weed was smoked, stories were told, and memories were made.

6. Ferris Wheels

Seeing Ferris wheels, even just in a photograph, makes me instantly think of summer. I used to love riding them in the summer heat, especially when the sun went down… now, I’m kind of terrified to ride them. I still think they’re beautiful, though.

7. Sunbathing on the sand or by the pool with big, colorful beach towels

When those big, colorful beach towels are put on display in every corner at Walmart… I always cave in and buy one! I love laying out on them, especially in the sand but, I will settle for poolside.

8. Driving with the windows down in the night breeze

Driving and singing along to the radio with the windows down, when it’s dark out and there’s a slight breeze in the air… oh, it’s the beeeest feeling, ever.

9. Reading on the balcony

I love sitting outside on the balcony; soaking in the sun and the current novel I’m reading.

10. Colorful flowers blooming everywhere

There are so many colorful flowers… they bloom about EVERYWHERE. Even in places I didn’t know they could. It’s beautiful.

11. Ice cream trucks driving around, blaring their tunes

Summer means hearing the ice cream truck’s jingle every morning and wondering if I should get up and try to catch it for a nice, cold treat!!

12. Fresh fruit

Fresh fruits are the perfect snack for the hot weather. My favorites to fight the heat are: watermelons, yellow mangoes, and strawberries.

13. Licking ice cream cones, sipping cocktails, drinking iced coffee, eating sandwiches, etc. on outdoor patios

When you go out to eat, you get to have the option of sitting indoors or outdoors. I mostly always choose outdoors.

14. Smoking outside, getting higher than usual from the heat and the sun

When I lived in Minnesota, I could go to any park. There would be a lake, a few benches, some BBQ pits, a trail, and maybe a playground. These types of parks were everywhere, it was easy to find one that was unoccupied. I loved going out just to smoke in the sunshine, in the middle of the park. Here, in Vegas, there aren’t parks like that but, I hope to find somewhere, someday.

15. Festivals, fairs, & amusement parks

All the deep-fried foods and foods on a stick, cotton candy, roller coasters. Festivals, fairs, and amusement parks opening up has got to be my number one favorite thing about the summer.

16. Tan lines

Am I the only one that gets the WORST tan lines on my feet?!

17. Slurpin’ on Icees & Sonic Slushes

Oooh, I love me a good blue and red mixed Icee or any flavor Sonic Slush with some Nerds candy thrown in– they are both insanely refreshing drinks!!

18. Fireworks

There are fireworks for EVERY occasion during the summer months. They never get boring and they never stop startling me!

19. BBQing & Picnics

BBQing and eating outside with my family was almost an everyday thing in the summer when I lived in the same state as my dad. He still BBQs but, I’m not able to attend so easily anymore.

20. All kinds of water activities!!

jan-traid-375105-unsplash(1)

All the pools are cleaned and ready for daily use!! Water activities, that I’m too scared to ever try (besides fishing), are up and running. People LOVE the water; nothing cools ’em down faster!!

What are some things that scream summer to you? What is your favorite summer activity?

Please, don’t forget to head on over to Rossy’s and Tialla’s blogs to read what summer means to them!!:

  1. I love that you went for the smaller details of summer that can be overlooked but also makes summer so special. I love having smores and sunbathing and going on picnics. But my favorite summer activity is riding bikes down trails with my sister.

    1. Aww, when I was younger I used to bike everywhere. I don’t even own a bike now! Thanks for sharing with me & bringing back some older summer memories for me. 🙂 ❤

  2. The smell of sunscreen and cigar smoke! Me and Fella spend time at the near by river at least once a week during the summer months. When we go, we take our books, some cigars and a couple of beach towels to lay out on. And obviously, since I’m a readhead, it’s an absolute must for me to wear sunscreen. I always have a can of Neutragena’s Beach Defense sunscreen in SPF 70- I love the smell of the stuff!

  3. This is such a sweet list with so much nostalgia for me! Your mention of Icees makes me think about when I’d get Slurpees from 7-11 on road trips. I have always thought drive-in movies are so cool, but I’ve only been to see 1 or 2, because there aren’t any around where I live. My favorite thing you listed is reading on the balcony! If I had to add something to the list I think it would be watching fireflies. 🙂

    1. Yay I’m glad you enjoyed the list. 🙂 I’ve actually never tried a 7-11 slurpee before! Sad! Drive-in movie theaters seem to be be dying out!

Aww my Uncle caught me a dragon fly once and tied it on a string. Now, that I think about it; it was mean but, memories… lol. Thanks for sharing with me!!! ❤

  4. I love your list, Hunida! It’s fun and the short sections just make it feel so much more summery. It’s all the little details that make summer feel like summer for sure. Also, I too am scared of Ferris wheels these days. I used to love them but now they freak me out, lol. I haven’t had those freezer pops in years! I’ll have to pick some up. 😉

    1. Yay! Thanks!! I’m glad you liked it. 😀 I thought it was gonna be a quick post but, I kept thinking of things to add & then I had to find all the photos and stuff lol. I still have to check yours and Rossy’s out, I’m almost there! I can’t wait to read ’em. ;D

& OMG!!! I’m so happy that I’m not the only one who’s afraid of Ferris wheels lol. Those freezee pops are good but I think I’ve eaten so many I’ve got a sore throat from them!!

  5. BBQ!!! One of my favorite things about summer! I also love the heat. I’m not usually a fan of water activities tho because of the fact that I can’t swim and fear drowning. I do like water parks tho. Amusement parks say summer to me! I’ve never been to a drive in movie but I’ve been hearing a lot about it lately and now I really wanna do it! Seeing my family more often says summer to me! My younger siblings don’t have school and are more free for visitation! Great post!

  6. Great list Hunida!!
I literally had a freeze pop today and yesterday and we also made fresh squeezed lemonade yesterday 🤣
And omg slurpees from 7-11 haha that used to be an everyday thing for us and I still love taking late night drives with Alex during the summer. “Ain’t nothing like them summer nights” hahaha idk if you’re familiar with Lil Rob’s “Summer Nights” song haha. That’s my summer jam 😂😂😂😂😂 fuck I feel old now, that songs is from like ‘05 I think haha 😂😂😂
And I’m so excited for the fairs, I really want to try going at least to soak in the vibes and the sights and for Ciel to have fun 😊
Honestly this list made me feel a little nostalgic. I just remembered doing so many of these when I was young. Such carefree summers… 💜
Ok, NOW I feel old just saying that so I think I’m done here 😂

    1. Mmm, mmm!! I want some fresh squeeze lemonade right now!
Lol oh you are not much older than me, I know the song you’re referring to!
Las Vegas barely has any fairs or festivals, the summer time is the only time I miss Minnesota where every single county has their own fair.
Yeah, the list reminded me more of younger days as a kid, too. Because that’s when summer was really a vacation. Now it just gets hot and I still have to go to work lol.

      1. It’s so so good! 🙂
Awh really? Well we have fairs all the time here, and we also have Vancouver right across the river so there’s also that one haha.
Omg yeah, we take for granted our childhood don’t we? 🙂
