Journal Entry #106 (Marriage Can Be Murder Review)

June 16, 2018

It’s one day after my birthday now. I actually did wake up feeling older and groggier. I think it’s because of my upcoming period though lol. I just woke up crabby as all hell for no reason.

Yesterday, for my birthday, we went to the murder mystery dinner I was going on about in a previous journal entry. The show is called Marriage Can Be Murder, it’s held inside the D Casino in downtown Las Vegas (on Fremont Street).

Boyfriend bought us tickets online so we had to go pick up our tickets from the box office first. We got there really early, like 4:30p and the show didn’t start until 6p.

We decided to go out onto Fremont Street and see what the party people were up to.

There was some kind of old-school car show going on so it blocked us from being able to walk the entire street. We were more annoyed than impressed. We had an hour to spare and not much distance to walk.

I spotted a BOGO mimosas sign outside of the Denny’s and I thought, ah, what the hell?! Let’s go have one.

They were $10 each and even though it was BOGO free, I still thought that was pretty expensive lol. I got the grapefruit mimosa and boyfriend got the classic OJ kind:

I also ordered a cold brew coffee (not pictured) that tasted like ass. It took us long enough to drink our drinks. There were already people in line when we got back to the showroom area. It was around 5:30p. At nearly 6p, a cast member came out and took our dinner orders.

There were 3 options for dinner: beef, chicken, or veggie pasta. We wanted to try both the beef and chicken so boyfriend got the chicken and I got the beef. They gave us these cards to bring in with us:

Right away when we walked in, they grabbed our tickets and took our photos in front of a green screen. First, a cute one and then, one with props. We waited a minute before we got seated, then the host of the night, Mimi, showed us to our spot.

All of the tables had two little tin gravy boats filled with salad dressing (Italian and ranch) and pitchers of water. All the chairs at our table was filled. It consisted of a group of 3 women, a single man, and another couple.

When all of the other tables were filled, we were served our salads immediately.

The show was incredibly interactive. They asked the crowd if any of us were celebrating anything and of course, I raised my hand because it was my birthday. The celebrators all got to go up on the stage, we lined up and they gave us all this nasty coconut-flavored shot. It later tied into ‘whodunnit’ but when they were trying to ‘question’ all of the folks who took the shots, I didn’t raise my hand, lol.

While the ‘cop’ was questioning those who had a shot on the stage earlier, the food was being passed out. I was SO HUNGRY, I gobbled it all up even if it wasn’t so good. Also, someone was murdered. Whenever someone was murdered, there were a bunch of people who had to ‘carry the body out.’ Those people were chosen in the beginning of the show (I’m so glad I wasn’t one of them lol).

I LOVE how the food was served in the fancy tin dishes with covers. I felt ‘important’ hehe.

Both of the dinner plates came with green beans and mashed potatoes. The chicken was grilled with a honey balsamic sauce. I feel like boyfriend could have made this dish 100x better on his own.

My beef tasted like cheap buffet prime rib. Way overcooked and nearly mushy.

My only suggestion if you go to this show is: don’t go hungry!

Some more shit went down when finally, our wretched dessert came out:

It was a layered red velvet cake with pudding in the middle, whipped cream on top. I so wish that it was just the cake. The pudding was nasty and I’ve never liked whipped cream. The syringe at the top contained a raspberry sauce that I just knew not to squeeze too much of. It was horrible. Completely artificial and almost alcoholic.

The show itself was funny even if it wasn’t exactly what I expected. I DID guess who the murderer was though… HE WAS SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO BOYFRIEND THE WHOLE TIME. If you scroll up, he’s the bald guy touching his beard at our table. Boyfriend bragged about me guessing it right to the other guests at our table (hehe πŸ˜€ <3) then, we stopped at the table with our photos, quickly purchased them, scurried out to get our parking ticket validated, rushed to the car, and sped to the Great American Foodie Pods.

Since June 1st, every Friday a few of Las Vegas’ best food trucks are going to be parked in the parking lot of this hospital on Sunset Road from 7p-11p. It was only a little past 8p when Marriage Can Be Murder ended so we were able to make it on time!! It was kind of a long drive, at almost half an hour. We were nervous and disappointed to only see FIVE food trucks… we were both expecting a ton more.

There was one corndog truck, one dessert truck, and 3 different BBQ trucks.

We decided on Monti’s BBQ. Probably because their menu was the easiest to read and it had photos.

I had a hard time choosing between the Charlie and the Lucy. Boyfriend knew right away that he wanted the Jeff. I asked the cashier which one she preferred and she said that her favorite is the Lucy (maybe because it costs more) so I took her advice and went for that one, with no cheese.

The Lucy w/o cheese

The tri-tip inside of my sandwich was TO DIE FOR. So freaking delicious. The chimichurri sauce and the pickled red onions… YES YES YES. I was NOT disappointed one bit and so grateful that we decided to make the drive and still order food after walking into less than we expected.

The Jeff was pretty much a grilled cheese on Texas toast with BBQ pulled pork and jalapenos. It was truly amazing. My mouth is watering just looking at the photo right now. MMM, MMM.

For our sides we got french fries and baked beans:

The fries were… different. They had cinnamon, sugar, and a salty seasoning on top of ’em. After the first initial shock, they actually became rather tasty. I started to really like them and boyfriend said the exact same thing. The beans weren’t the best, though.

We also got a sweet pickle. πŸ™‚

I wanted to check out the dessert truck, too. I had never heard of ‘fluff ice’ before but, there were dairy-free options and I was informed by the cashier inside that it wasn’t shaved ice (which I hate), so I ordered one.

I was super excited to see that the Green Tea flavor was a dairy-free option. It’s my favorite and it also came with mochi and red bean topping. YUM, YUM.

Oh! They also offered sweetened condensed milk for you to drizzle over everything but, I declined that offer. ‘Fluff ice’ is really the best way to describe this dessert. It’s creamy, fluffy, but cold and icy… it’s like cold cotton candy!! I don’t know but, it was like nothing I’ve ever tried before. Incredible. I’d love to try all of the other flavors someday.

We headed home after the food trucks and just planted ourselves on the couch for some Boy Meets World. We went to sleep around 2a and today we woke up rather early. A little before noon.

We have reservations for dinner tonight at 5:00p! I’m already so starving, I can’t wait!!! We also have tickets for dinner tomorrow. πŸ˜‰ I cleared my blog schedule for the rest of the month except for the collab posts on Mondays and Wednesdays. I’ll still be posting everyday, just not sure what and when.

I’m a little stressed because for the blog collab, we’re supposed to have a makeup routine up by Monday morning and I’m not going to be going to work until Monday night so I’ll have to do my entire face for that post on Sunday night… oooohhh the things I do for the blog lol. I seriously never do my makeup or put my contacts in unless I’m going to work.

I got my snack box today!! I’ve only tried one snack so far and it came with like 10 so it’ll be a little while before I can show you that. I’m so excited to eat it all.

We were also going to go swimming for the first time today but, someone fucking pulled the light out in the pool so it’s closed. 😑 We were all suited up and everything… so sad.

I’m also stressed because my Aunt and her whole freaking family, her husband and two very young kids, have been calling and asking me if they can stay in my living room!! I’m like ‘hell no’ because we only have a one-bedroom and I like my own fucking space so I’ve been ignoring her calls so everyone in my family is like messaging and commenting on my FB and IG like ‘why aren’t you answering her?’ like LEAVE ME ALONE. It’s my birthday weekend!!

I’m gonna stop ending my journal entries with ‘now, I’m gonna go do such and such’ because I always end up doing something completely different and I don’t want to lie to you lol so, how about: have a good weekend. ❀

  1. Happy birthday Hunida!!! I hate when family wants to stay and you just have an apartment when I lived in an apartment I would feel obligated to allow them, but sometimes I would say it was a major mess which wasn’t always a lie πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚. Your birthday dinner and food trucks looked so fun! Keep enjoying your weekend!

    1. Hi Allison! πŸ™‚
Thank you for wishing me a happy birthday! My biggest question is, why do they want to stay in our small spaces? I feel bad for not allowing them to but I just don’t need the extra stress… I’m so glad that it’s not just me who doesn’t like it though; makes me a feel a little better. ❀

I did have fun, thank you. πŸ™‚ I hope you are enjoying your weekend, as well! ❀

  2. Happy Happy Birthday. Sorry to hear that the food at they mystery was so bad. That sounds really disappointing. I have to say, though, that I’ve never had a good experience with cold brewed coffee. Maybe I’m just old fashioned. But at least it sounds like the other food was good – the BBQ looked great.

    1. Thank you, Todd!! The mystery was funny, just the food there was bad. πŸ˜› I’ve had good cold brew a few times… Denny’s is just not the place for it lol. The BBQ food was delish!! ❀ πŸ˜€

  3. My family thinks I’m still a little girl who needs her family to celebrate the birthday.
While really i want to just spend it quietly. So I’m fearing it because my birthday is in less than a month!

Whenever I go out for dinner, I always think “I could have prepared this waaaaay better” πŸ˜€

    1. Oh gosh, I hope you won’t be tortured that way this year & happy early birthday. πŸ˜‰

Yes, it happens most of the time with chicken breast dishes! My boyfriend is a pretty good cook so he’s hard to beat. πŸ˜‰

  4. Happy Birthday, Hunida! The murder mystery sounds so FUN!? We don’t have it here where I live but its so cool!! Too bad the meals were a miss though but you did find salvation at the food trucks! All your food looks so good particularly the sweet pickle! I didn’t know that was a thing too and I WISH I COULD TRY IT.
And Urgh, I’m sorry but family that doesn’t know the boundaries are so rude, its such an intrusive request!
Anyways looking forward to your next post sweetie! Excited for the collabs!

    1. Thank you, Cordelia! β™‘ The murder mystery dinner was definitely entertaining! Yes! So glad we went to the food trucks. πŸ˜€ You’ve not heard of sweet pickles before?! I actually prefer regular dill pickles but they sweet is pretty good too!

I felt like it was intrusive, too. It makes me feel loads better that you agree, thank you.

I hope you’ll enjoy my upcoming posts!! β™‘

  5. Happy Birthday! I looove food trucks! I love good in general though so lol. A murder mystery dinner party does sound intriguing. I’ve never been to one and I haven’t seen that kinda thing where I live but it sounds very interesting. Although the bad food is super disappointing.

    1. Thank you, dear!! β™‘ I love food trucks, too!! They’ve always got the best grub but, I’m a food lover myself. πŸ˜‰ You can always come visit Vegas to experience the murder mystery dinner!

  6. Looks like you had a fun birthday, yay!! I’m way too much of an introvert to go to a murder mystery dinner, lol. I’d be having anxiety the whole time hahaha. It’s awesome that you had fun though, but that sucks that the food wasn’t that great though!

I was stressed out about the makeup post too, lol. It was just more difficult for me to get it up and trying to cram on Sunday night was stressful haha. I totally get it!

Also, that’s totally not right of your aunt to ask for that! I would be so pissed. A family of four simply cannot fit in someone’s one bedroom apartment and that’s just rude to ask like it’s a reasonable request. Family can be such manipulators, lol. All to save a buck instead of getting a motel room or Airbnb! Personally I don’t ever feel comfortable staying with other people, so I don’t even understand that mindset, haha.

    1. Haha. When there was “discussion time” everyone got out of their seats to compare notes but I was the only one who stayed seated lmao.

Lol oh gosh at least I wasn’t the only one stressing out about that post! & it really makes me feel loads better that you thought the request was inappropriate too. I feel bad but I didn’t want the extra stress. :/ I agree though! I’d rather stay in my own space.

      1. Hahaha that’s totally something I would do too. I’m too much of an introvert. XD

I don’t know why it seemed so stressful to me, but I definitely struggled with it!

Oh yes, I definitely think it was a very inappropriate thing to request. Family can act so entitled sometimes and push boundaries (or act like they don’t–aka, *shouldn’t*–exist). Don’t feel bad, sometimes you have to just say no and not let family walk over you. πŸ˜‰

  7. Happy belated birthday! The muriere mystery party dinner sounded interesting but I kind of expected something else too? Then again, maybe the experience was a bit better than I’m imagining lol. Too bad the food was shit, but then one can say that you’re not really there for the food, you’re there for the show lol.
Anyway I’m glad you had a pretty good weekend. And that sucks your family is hounding you. I mean, it’s YOUR place, just because other people tell you to let them stay doesn’t mean you have to.

    1. Yeah it was totally weird!! I don’t really think it was worth the price we paid for our tickets. πŸ˜› The food should have been good too even if the show was jaw-dropping!

Yeah, I just ignored them. Whatever, lol. πŸ˜›

  8. Ooh thanks for writing about the murder mystery dinner! I’ve always wanted to try that out but I’ve been hesitant too. I kind of expected the food to be not so great since the focus is on the interactiveness of it but wow that sounds absolutely awful! Have you been to one of these murder mystery dinners before? I’ve been reading your other posts and it’s amazing how much there is to do in Las Vegas! And yeah I totally get why you wouldn’t want so many relatives staying in your apartment that sounds very suffocating lol

    1. Yeah I do think that’s why the food wasn’t so great… like we were supposed to be focused on the entertainment instead of the food! Do they have a murder mystery dinner show near you? I think it’s worth a shot to try once though! I had never been to one before!

Thank you for reading my posts, Keira! πŸ™‚ There is a TON to do in Vegas & I don’t think I’ve even crossed off half of ’em. Also, thanks for taking my side about not wanting my family over. I still feel guilty about it though so maybe it wasn’t the right choice to deny them. :/

      1. I think we do have a few murder mystery dinners around us although I’ve never gone. I think I may! I see a lot of them on Groupon too.

Next time I go to Vegas I’ll check out your blog for sure!! I don’t think I realized there was so much to do there. Thanks for writing such interesting posts. Your topics always reel me in and your writing always keeps me reading!
