Journal Entry #92

May 14, 2018

I got my period this morning so I get to have a few days off, yay! Boyfriend and I are watching Law & Order: SVU. We just got back from AYCE sushi at this place called Sakana. We had never been there before but it’s the sister restaurant of our favorite place Sushi Neko so the menu is the same and the interior was pretty similar too.

There were a lot of people there and like 3 different birthday celebrations. They turn the lights down and play this super loud music for birthdays, it startled me each time haha.

Our first round of appetizers:)

Let’s rewind to Saturday, boyfriend had work in the evening, I was going to go to work as well… so I ordered a poke bowl through Postmates. I never tried a poke bowl before and I wanted mixed greens but then I got a text that said they didn’t have any. I changed it to cabbage and cucumbers but they forgot the cucumbers and there was no sauce on it! I think it would’ve def been better if there were mixed greens and sauce on top of it… I also got a miso soup for my side. The tofu chunks tasted really weird (I usually love tofu).

When boyfriend came home it was late and I was hungry again. I also have an ugly pimple on my face that was making me insecure so I decided to just go out to eat/have a drink with boyfriend. We went to this bar called Starboard Tack.

They didn’t have that many food options on their menu but they did have a ton of different cocktails. I tried one that was super delicious… it had like cinnamon and grapefruit in it. I can’t remember the name though. Dang it.

Boyfriend just had a scotch on the rocks. For our appetizer, we shared empanadas stuffed with longaniza!! I had just learned about longaniza from Rossy super recently and I was surprised to see it on the menu! I was so excited to try it and so happy to see these empanadas were stuffed with this wonderful meat!! Super flavorful with so many different pops of spice. The pastry was also perfect.

Boyfriend ordered a Mongolian Beef hoagie with fries:

He said it was a bit too salty. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich:

It was yummm-o!! ❤ After that we went home and watched some TV together. We went to sleep kinda early because boyfriend had to work during the day on Sunday. He woke up around 9a and I woke up at the same time. All I did was read blogs on my phone and then, I started reading It Ain’t Me, Babe. Boyfriend got home around 4p and I wrote up my Recipe Reviews post while we smoked a blunt. We decided to try this “hot & new” ramen restaurant called Shinya Maru Ramen & Izakaya.

The place is right off The Strip.

Their “thick” noodles seemed pretty thin to me and I thought their ramen was just altogether disappointing. Boyfriend ordered the Miso with pork chashu and I had the Tonkatsu with chicken chashu.

We did really enjoy our chicken karaage appetizer though. The nuggets were so plump and juicy.

They had MACARON ICE CREAM SANDWICHES so of course, we ordered those for dessert. I got cappuccino and boyfriend got strawberry.

Too bad these were a bit disappointing as well. The cookies were hard as fuck. Way too frozen.

We came home after dinner and snuggled on the couch for TV time. I took a bubble bath before bed. It was so relaxing.

This morning I woke up at around noon. I had gotten an e-mail saying that the School of Rock Musical and On Your Feet Musical had put their tickets on sale. I didn’t wanna buy a ticket because I wanted to save money by buying a subscription (like I’ve talked about before). I called the box office to ask when the subscriptions would be available since on the website they weren’t yet and the kind man who answered the phone told me I could buy them through him at that very moment. Boyfriend had my debit card in his wallet so I had to call him and ask him to add a little money on there for me and to send me a picture of the card so I could purchase my subscription. He did all of the above for me but, when I called the box office again an old fucking cunt answered and told me the subscriptions weren’t available until next week. I was like “really? I just called and the man told me I could buy them through him right now.” She was like, “mmm, no…” and I was like “that’s really weird because he said I could!!” and I hung up on her. I called boyfriend again to complain and he ended up calling them for me. He got the guy when he called and was able to buy me the subscription!!!! I’m so excited. The tickets come in the mail in July. 😀 The first show is School of Rock in August. Also, we’re trying to go to the new Marilyn Monroe Musical that is opening up at the Paris Casino this month on the 23rd. I think I’m addicted to musicals now!!!!

After I got my confirmation e-mail, I was all relaxed but still kind of mad. I’m actually still wondering why the fuck she said I couldn’t purchase them today but the guy said I could and was *gasp* even able to process the transaction!?!

The entire time boyfriend was at work I was reading It Ain’t Me, Babe. I’m like 77% through now! I’m hoping to finish it tonight but it probably won’t happen until tomorrow while boyfriend’s at work again.

Hope you’ve all had a great start to your week. ❤

XO, Hunida

  1. Cure for pimples… lemon juice. Oh the horrors of having an immigrant mother who prefers old school ways to modern medicine lololol.

I always read your blogs before breakfast.

If you do come to LA, you and your boyfriend should go to Sawtelle. This street houses some of the best Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese restaurants in Los Angeles. Your taste buds will be overwhelmed!

    Keep up the good work!

    1. Lemon juice?! Oh gosh, it will hurt if I get it in my eyes though!!
Thank you so much for reading my blog, haha I love that you read it at the most peaceful time of the day too!! 😀 ❤
That sounds right up my alley!! Thanks so much for the recommendation. Next time I make it to LA I'll def look it up!!

      1. It’s funny how our parents have all these old school remedies that companies are barely discovering. I joke with my mother that we could have been rich by now.

Two months ago I quit my job in the hotel industry (had some savings of course) to pursue a career in writing. Im finishing a book. Plenty of free time to read my fellow WordPress colleagues’ blogs.

Speaking of that. Keep up the good work. Your blogs are really a treat!

        1. Haha yes my parents definitely have a few weird old school remedies too! That’s really amazing that you’re pursuing a writing career. Best of luck to you! ♡ Again, thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog! It really means a lot to me that you like it!

  2. What INCREDIBLE eats!!! That sushi place looked great, and even though the macaroon ice cream sandwiches weren’t that great, still a fun idea! You know how to pack some fun memories into a short period of time. Thanks for sharing, dear!

    1. We love our food! Haha. Yeah, I wish the macaron sandwiches had been better. There’s this gelato place that makes mini macarons with gelato in the middle… they’re so much better! Thanks for reading & commenting, Mackenzie!!! 😀

        1. We haven’t been up to NoCal yet but, gosh, would I love to visit San Francisco and have a double date with you guys!!!! Don’t forget, you said you’d give me any meat you couldn’t eat hahaha ;D

  3. The fried chicken sandiwich literally made my stomach growl! But I have been craving sushi for awhile now so I am excited for the partaking I will be doing this weekend!

  4. Ok, the food from Sakana looks freaking delicious. Please take me there when I go there lol.
I’ve also never had poke bowls, and to be honest, they don’t look that good to me lol. I love veggies but they don’t look appetizing AT ALL!
And how awesome that you finally got to try longaniza that’s cool!, glad you liked it, I like it better than chorizo lol.
I’ve had disappointing ramen as well in the past which is what makes it really hard for me to venture out to new places lmao. BUT, that macaron ice cream dessert looks so fucking delicious. (Too bad it wasn’t.) I’ve never seen the dessert menu at Maru, I’ll have to ask for it next time and see what they have lol.
And what a cunt, she must have been havin a bad day or something but still, she had no right to be that rude and to lie to you, isn’t her job to sell for the company lol

    1. I’d love to bring you there if you ever come to visit!! ;D Yeah, it was my first time trying a poke bowl & I’m not sure I’d ever order another one. I’d rather eat like a seafood salad or something. I liked the longaniza a lot! I’m glad you had told me about it because we prob wouldn’t have ordered it if I didn’t know what it was! I like chorizo a lot too, they’re different. I don’t know if I can choose one over the other. Yeah, I hate trying new ramen places & being disappointed because I could’ve just went to the better place. If they don’t have the macaron ice cream sandwiches at your ramen restaurant, if they have the mochi ice cream; you should try one! I love those little things!!
I KNOW! That’s exactly what I was thinking! I was like doesn’t she wanna make this money for the company?!

      1. We almost planned for 4th of July. But Alex wants us to save up to go to Mexico hopefully at the end of the year or in September. That way we can get it out of the way for good lol. And maybe next summer we can go to Vegas lol.
Ah yay!, so glad you liked it lol. Great timing of mine then, you got to try something new 😁
Okay, I’ll be sure to ask next time I’m there lol. Because they always ask if we want dessert and I was always so because I’m too full lol.

        1. I would love to visit Mexico someday. You should come to Vegas when it’s not summer lol so you don’t die from the heat! 😛
Let me know if they have the mochi balls & if you like them!! 😀

          1. Does it get even hotter during the summer then? What’s the average temperature during the summer?
Yes will do! I thought we were going tomorrow to Maru, but I guess we’re going to the food carts and….then to a fair at the waterfront? LOL I’ll be sure to make this another jam packed weekend haha

            1. Yeah, like no one really comes here in the summer because it’s nearly deadly but it’s okay if you could handle it because there are no lines anywhere! The avg is prob 100 and the high (that it does usually get to) is like 120.

FOOD CARTS & A FAIR!?! I WISH I WAS THERE lol. Have so much fun!! ❤

              1. It’d be better to go when no one is there but I don’t know if my little one can handle it. It might have to wait then. Thanks for letting me know though! 🙂
I think I would die at 100 degrees, lol. Here it gets up to 100 as well but it’s more like humid and the past couple years we’ve had fires so that sucks. .

Yeah I’ll be sure to take plenty of photos 🙂

                1. Gosh, I remember that. Last summer, I had so many customers from Oregon & they said they were running away from the fires & praying that it didn’t hit their houses! I hope that doesn’t happen again to you guys!
