Birchbox April 2018: Unboxing & Review

I can’t help but feel like I’ve seen the design on this month’s box somewhere else before. I thought maybe I had seen it on a previous Birchbox but, I looked at my box history on the website and it hadn’t been used before… nonetheless it’s cute and perfect for the spring season:

On the postcard this month there are suggestions on how to feed your mind, body, and soul:

What Was In My Box?!:

HUM Nutrition – Raw Beauty Green Superfood Powder in Pineapple Coconut

“Amp up your energy and metabolism while boosting skin’s radiance with this powder supplement made from 39 all-natural superfoods. Add it to 8 oz. of water, milk, or a smoothie.” (via Birchbox)

My Review: This was a bonus item they added in the box for me! Sometimes, I remember to choose which out of the two bonus items available I want for the box but, I forgot this time. I don’t even know what the other option was but I wonder if it was as bad as this one. Don’t get me wrong, it was reeeally awesome to see a product I could consume instead of just another beauty product but YUCK. I despise powdered drinks… and this one was no different. I don’t like coconut flavor at all, either. The smell was extremely and terribly pungent. I could not stand it— I was gagging. It did not get any better as I dissolved the powder into a glass of ice water. Fortunately, it didn’t taste as rotten as it smelled but it did taste awful enough for me to never, ever want to take another sip.

Juliette Has A Gun – Not a Perfume Eau de Parfum

“This allergen-free, minimalist scent has a single note: elegant, spicy Cetalox.” (via Birchbox)

My Review: This is not very womanly at all. I told my boyfriend to wear it because it’s more musky than flowery or sweet… it’s spicy. I like it though… just not for me. It is really strong and long-lasting, as well. I’m confused about the name (Not A Perfume) though because it is definitely a perfume.

Briogeo – Rosarco™ Blow Dry Perfection & Heat Protectant Crème

“Blowouts just got easier thanks to this lightweight styling cream. It protects against heat damage and hydrates hair with rosehip, argan, and coconut oils.” (via Birchbox)

My Review: If you read my Unboxing & Reviews often, you’ll know by now that I don’t ever blow-dry my hair so this has gone unopened and unused. Does Briogeo make any other products besides blow-drying ones?

The Beauty Crop – Glow Milk Liquid Highlighter

“It’s glow time. Brush this liquid highlighter onto your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, and on your cupid’s bow (then blend!) for a lit-from-within look.” (via Birchbox)

My Review: When I first opened my box and saw this little guy, I thought it was a nail polish. Then I read the postcard and realized it was a highlighter. I opened it and even the brush looked like a nail polish brush. I felt like I was painting my face with nail polish, it was quite odd. The product was very liquidy and easier blended in with my fingers instead of a sponge. I liked how it felt on my skin and it was definitely “poppin’.” It was a light shade of shine with a lot of shimmer similar to Benefit’s Watt’s Up!— if you are a fan of that, you will LOVE this even more. It is much gentler on the skin and not so thick and pasty… it’s shinier and sparklier, too, which is the most important part. (Also, Watt’s Up makes me breakout.) I, myself, prefer a more golden highlight like Urban Decay’s Naked Illuminated in Lit.

Eyeko – Skinny Liquid Eyeliner

“From a subtle, precise line to a bolder look, accentuate eyes with this pen-style, ultrablack liquid liner. It goes on velvety smooth and stays all day long without budging.” (via Birchbox)

My Review: I usually never use eyeliner but, I keep getting them in these subscription boxes so I thought I’d just try one out to see if I liked how I looked with it on. I figured if I did, I’d be able to test out all of the other eyeliners as well, but ah!… I colored in my water lines after applying my mascara and I re-learned how I very much prefer myself without any eyeliner anywhere. But this eyeliner was really nice, dark, and boldly black. It was precise and easy to use. The lines drawn by this were seriously as thin as a pen’s stroke so you have a lot of control but it also takes a lot if you use it to color in with. I had a very dark black smudge under both of my eyes at the end of the night but I think it’s because I used it on my water lines instead of on my lids? It was definitely not easily wiped away. I washed my face and used special soap for eye makeup and this stayed on my face until I took a thorough shower and even after the shower I had to wipe my eyes with micellar water soaked cotton balls to completely remove the leftover blackness.

Marcelle – BB Cream Golden Glow

“This paraben- and oil-free BB cream gives skin a golden glow while also controlling shine and evening out your skin texture.” (via Birchbox)

My Review: I LOVE LOVE LOVE this product. I’ve never seen a use or difference after applying all kinds of BB Creams to my face many times before until I used this one. I applied it before I did any of my other makeup. It really evened out my skin texture and skin color. It made the surface super smooth and easier to blend makeup into. My face was no longer patchy and lighter in some areas, it was the same all over! It also prevents my concealer that I apply over it from creasing at my eyelids and under eyes, too. It’s lovely. I’ll more than likely repurchase this product when I run out of this sample size if I’m not presented with a better BB Cream in a future box I’m subscribed to. It’s one of those things I never knew I needed in my life.

I love the variety of products and the different box designs. A big bonus for me this month was that everything in my box was cruelty-free! I can’t wait to see what else I get to try in the future! This box is so worth it for only $10/month! You can follow my invite link here: if you’d like to receive a monthly Birchbox that matches your beauty profile!

  1. But how do you tell if something is a health food if it doesn’t taste terrible?

The highlighter looks really nice, though. My Watts Up sample broke recently and I was very sad to see it go.

  2. I’ve been noticing that more and more cruelty-free products are being given out now and I love that! The B.B. cream looks amazing, I have this one by Covergirl I think? That evens out my skin color but it also darkens it (like I got some sun), so the only time it looks okay is if I wear it in the summer lol.

  3. That powdered drink does not look good at all. No wonder you didn’t like it. That Briogeo cream is right up my alley because I always blow dry my hair. I have to or else it looks awful. That’s too bad you don’t really have use for it though. I don’t know if I would like that Glow Milk. I tried a liquid highlighter once and hated it because I couldn’t get it to blend well. I prefer powder or cream highlighters. I got that same Eyeko liquid eyeliner in my ipsy bag before, but I don’t think I ever used it. I really want to try that BB cream now! I use NYX bb cream, but I’m interested in trying out some others too.

    1. LOL it really was NOT good at all. I have a few unused blow drying products from my subscription boxes now! I had tried a few liquid highlighters that didn’t blend well and/or made my face feel sticky but this one was really nice & blendable. 🙂 I think I got the full-size Eyeko liquid eyeliner in a previous Ipsy bag, too, lol but I didn’t use it. I never tried BB cream before but I remember reading that you prefer it over wearing foundation. I think you’d really like this one but it’s a bit liquidy. Is that how all BB creams are?

  4. That box has a fantastic variety!! And great you liked that B.B. cream, anytime I get products like that in boxes they never match my skin tone so I can never use them. And that drink doesn’t look good ugh lol.
The liquid highlighter looks pretty, I have too many liquid highlighters and a lot of them I don’t actually like as much lol.

    1. Yeah I’m loving all the unique & different products!! The bb cream was the perfect color for my skin tone, I’ve been lucky with my samples matching me lately! LOL doesn’t that drink look so nasty?! Agh…it was horrible.
The liquid highlighter was reallt pretty and surprisingly bendable! I’ve tried a few other liquid highlighters I didn’t like so much either!

      1. Yeah the drink looks disgusting! LOL
But that’s nice, highlighters are some of my favorite thing, the liquid ones can be mixed in with foundations, though not all of them can be.
