Play! By Sephora March 2018: Unboxing & Review

Ooh, I LOVED how vibrant this bag was! The tie-dyed blue is eye-catching. It says: BEAUTY IS MY SPIRIT ANIMAL. The fabric of the bag was very soft… like one of those skirts or scarves you buy from a festival.

The newspaper had a little game to play to figure out “What’s Your Festival Beauty Vibe?” (I got Full-On Festival Fanatic) on one side and on the other side, they have photos of the samples included in my bag along with a little description about each product.

What Was In My Bag?!:

Sephora Collection – Matte Perfection Powder Foundation in Shade 26 Neutral Sand

“A buildable powder foundation with a creamy texture and natural, matte finish.” (via Sephora)

My Review: I haven’t tried this product on its own because I’m scared a non-liquid foundation won’t give me the coverage that I’m looking for. I have been dusting this powder over my face after I apply my liquid foundation though. It’s not too light for my skin, it’s actually perfect! I was nervous at first but was pleasantly surprised that they got it right. 🙂 I really like the matte finish this gives me.

Sephora Collection – Triple Action Cleansing Water

“A refreshing no-rinse micellar water cleanser that removes makeup from your face and eyes in one swipe.” (via Sephora)

My Review: This does not remove your make up in one swipe. Try a thousand swipes and over ten cotton balls. I never came up with clean cotton balls until I gave up and decided to wash my face with some real water and my go-to facial cleanser. This was the first micellar water I’ve ever tried so I was excited to try it. I wonder if the other ones out there work better. This stuff is nice to use after you wash your face. It makes you feel refreshed and it’ll wipe away any leftover residue but, it just can’t do the job on its own like it claims to be able to.

My Burberry – Blush

“A fruity and beautifully feminine floral fragrance that captures the vibe of strolling through a London garde.” (via Sephora)

My Review: The description Sephora gave for this perfume’s scent is absolutely spot on. It’s the first perfume that I can wear that doesn’t give me a headache. It’s strong enough to last all day after one squirt on your wrist but, it’s still subtle and sweet. I love it.

Coola – Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30

“A refreshing setting spray and sunscreen duo that fights signs of aging.” (via Sephora)

My Review: I usually use setting powder and my makeup doesn’t wear off. I continued to use my setting powder and I have been spraying this on top of that… so I couldn’t tell ya if this product on its own could do the job. I’m so used to doing the setting powder, I kept forgetting to leave it out of my routine, sorry! I will keep spraying this until it’s all gone because it has SPF 30 in it even though I don’t really like the scent. It’s not super bothersome, it just smells like rubbing alcohol mixed with that fake sweet “cucumber” scent.

Lancôme – Hypnôse Drama Instant Full Body Volume Mascara

“A black volumizing mascara with an S-shaped curve for extra drama.” (via Sephora)

My Review: I think the S-shaped brush helped in separating the lashes nicely. I don’t think the mascara had that much of an effect on my eyelashes, though. They made them only a bit more noticeable. My eye on the right has the mascara on and the one on the left does not. I also curled my eyelashes before I applied this mascara, I don’t think this would have done that for me on its own. I prefer darker and more effective mascaras but, one plus: this mascara doesn’t smudge under your eyes as much as other mascaras. It does a little but it’s easy to swipe off with your finger.

Briogeo –  Blossom & Bloom Ginseng + Biotin Volumizing Spray

“A dual-action spray that provides instant volume and texture.” (via Sephora)

My Review: I didn’t even take the cap off of this, spray it, or anything. It’s for backcombing your hair and blow drying your hair… I do neither of those things to mine. I have a feeling it smells yummy, though.

Cruelty-Free?: Yes
Full-Size Retail Value: $20

I was happy with everything in my bag except the Briogeo Volumizing Spray, of course… only because it wasn’t something I could actually try. I would love to try something else from the Briogeo brand so hopefully they give me a different product by them someday. I will be getting April’s box so stay tuned, I’m already excited! ;D

  1. I haven’t done their boxes (yet!) But you got some amazing products! I love mcellar water, BUT I always use it after I wash my face, to get any residue off. I don’t feel like it does much, if I don’t wash my face first. I can not wait to hear about April’s box! ❤

    1. You should try on of their boxes! Getting little samples each month is so exciting. 😀 I’ve never used micellar water before this but, yes… after washing my face normally this is good to use but it claims to be able to wash all of my makeup off on its own… which is a total lie lol. I can’t wait to share April’s box with you guys! 😀

  2. Idk about this matte powder foundation, but I know that the NYX powder foundation can be used wet for more coverage. And weird, I thought they switched up the products each month because I received the micellar water and that perfume sample in another box (don’t remember if in the same box or separate). Anyway, the micellar water worked for me but it is a pain in the ass to get waterproof make up off and also eyeliner lol. The setting spray sounds cool too, and too bad you didn’t get to use the briogeo spray, I think I’ve only used it once so far lmao I almost forgot about it

    1. How would you make it wet? Do you wet the brush or put water into the product?!
Interesting. I hope I don’t get a repeat of anything. But, maybe since I’ve never received them before is why I got them and since you have, you didn’t? Still weird.
How did you like the Briogeo spray when you used it?

      1. The foundation I got came with a round beauty sponge (the flat ones), not sure if the full size of this one would come with one too. But basically you just wet the sponge, dip the sponge into the product and put it all over your face. I didn’t really like that method though, so I used the foundation the same way you do, as a setting powder for my t-zone during the summer.
I don’t think you would, but maybe they just rotate some products so everyone sort of gets a chance to try products that they didn’t receive in previous boxes. I’m not too sure to be honest, but they shouldn’t* send you repeats.
I remember liking it, I always forget to use it because I stashed it in my skincare drawer storage, so this is a terrific reminder to pull it out and leaving it on top of my sink to use tomorrow when I wash my hair LMAO.

        1. Oooh I see! That makes sense. Yeah I do like it as a setting powder over my liquid foundation. I’m nervous to try it any other way haha.
I hope I don’t get repeats. I actually haven’t even been reviewing products on the app because I’m scared if I say I like something they’ll constantly send me the same kind of product and I want a variety lol.
Dang, I wish there was another way I could find a use for it!

  3. You definitely got some nice stuff, I’m still thinking about giving this one a go! I blow dry my hair in the winter so the spray would’ve been great to try! I tried a heat protectant by them that I loved. I’ve never used Micellar water before, but it seems to be a popular go to!
