Hey guys! I know I promised this post yesterday but I binge-watched Good Girls on Hulu instead, sorry! (It’s so funny, watch it if you get the chance.)
I know most people are trying to switch over to using cruelty-free products only (or at least, they should be) so I’ll be including whether the brand/product is or not from now on like Rossy does in her subscription box posts!
And now… for the moment you’ve all been waiting for!!:
I loved the design of this month’s box!! The light purple and the simple artwork are both so pretty and perfect for the Springtime!
On the postcard this month was a little note from the CEO and Co-Founder of Birchbox, Katia Beauchamp, regarding Women’s History Month. On the other side, was the list of samples in my box and a small description of each. I love that Birchbox includes this info on their postcard (unlike Ipsy).
What Was In My Box?!:
Benefit Cosmetics – Hoola Lite Matte Bronzer
“Sweep this lighter shade of the brand’s best-selling matte bronzer all over to add a subtle warmth to your complexion, or onto the hollows of your cheeks for definition.” (via Birchbox)
My Review: Um… this looks way too light for my skin. I haven’t used this on my face because I’m too scared. I might just give it away. How can I use a bronzer that is so much lighter than me?
Full-Size Retail Value: $29.00
Wilma Schumann Skin Care – Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads
“These pads are infused with pure collagen to hydrate, depuff, and plump the undereye area.” (via Birchbox)
My Review: I thought these were super cool. I really liked how they felt, like jelly. They stuck on my face nicely and I was able to blog while I let them sit on my undereyes for 20 minutes. They stayed put and didn’t slide down at all. I didn’t even have to get up to wash my face. I just peeled them off, discarded the pads, continued blogging, and my skin felt nice and instantly dry. I was only given one package and after the one use… honestly, I really didn’t see a difference. I’ll admit I got this box too long ago and I was way too excited to try these so I used them right away… and now, I can’t remember how they smelled. I wanna say they had a nice, fresh scent? I know it didn’t bother me because if it had, I would definitely have remembered.
Cruelty-Free?: Yes – I couldn’t find any information on their website and the Bunny Free app couldn’t find the brand in their database but, I did some more research and on Skin Store I instant-messaged with an expert named Ellie who told me these are cruelty-free.
Full-Size Retail Value: $18
R + Co – TELEVISION Perfect Hair Shampoo & Conditioner
“Happy, healthy hair is a shower away thanks to this strengthening shampoo and conditioner duo which boosts body, shine, and softness.” (via Birchbox)
My Review: The best shampoo and conditioner I’ve ever tried was Alterna Haircare’s CAVIAR Moisture. I received it in my first Play! By Sephora box so from now on, I will be comparing all shampoos and conditioners to that. This stuff didn’t leave my hair shiny, super soft, nor bouncy the way Alterna did… but, it did leave it clean and dandruff-free which is good enough.
Full-Size Retail Value: $32
Winky Lux – Glazed Lips Donut Lip Gloss in Sugar Glaze
“Inspired by donut frosting, this pearl shimmery gloss looks (and smells) just as sweet. Wear alone or on top of a lip color for a multidimensional look.” (via Birchbox)
My Review: I am not a fan. You need to use so much just to get a little sparkle and shine on your lips. It smelled like coconut sugar, not really like donuts or frosting. It wears off super quickly, too. You’d be reapplying constantly if you wanted to keep this look all day. At the first swipe, it goes on almost holographic, a super shiny, Unicorn-esque purple but then as you rub it in, all of the sprakles, shine, and color disappear.
Full-Size Retail Value: $15
Embryolisse – Lait-Crème Concentré (24-Hour Miracle Cream)
“A makeup artist fave, this French-born moisturizer combats dryness and preps skin for makeup application.” (via Birchbox)
My Review: I am LOVING this moisturizer. It’s so light and easy to apply. Not at all sticky and it definitely does its job!! My face feels softer, smoother, and my makeup applies more evenly onto my face. It has that “old lady” lotion smell like Clinique, Lancôme, and Olay… it’s not super horrible or overpowering at all, though, and it fades away just as fast as it dries into my skin (which is nearly right away!).
Full-Size Retail Value: $16-$28
Oribe – Straight Away Smoothing Blowout Cream
“Get sleek, shiny hair without sacrificing body thanks to this styling balm that fights frizz and flyaways. Apply throughout damp hair, section-by-section, before blow-drying.” (via Birchbox)
My Review: I don’t even a own a blow-dryer so I’m gonna have to give this away, too. I was thinking I might do a little giveaway when/if I reach 1,000 followers.
Full-Size Retail Value: $44
I was still really happy with my box even though I wasn’t able to use 2 out of 6 of the items. I had a lot of fun testing out these products and I can’t wait for my April box! 🙂 If you’d like to start receiving this $10/month subscription box, you should use my link to sign up: https://www.birchbox.com/invite/4crjt!
