Days 3 & 4: My Solo Trip To New York (Kinky Boots Review)

On my 3rd day in New York, I did a LOT of walking. I left the hotel at around 11a. My first stop was Washington Square Park.

On my way there, there was another similar looking park.

I walked just a little further until I reached my destination!

I sat down for a second to snap photos and look at puppies. πŸ™‚

I’m sure this place is much more beautiful in the summer when the fountains are running and such.

For me, it was kind of boring, especially because I was alone.

After that, I walked around 10m towards The Greenwich Village.

I stopped at a cute little book store and some other small shops around there. I loved this little village even though I was freezing, I continued to walk around it.

After I walked around pretty much all of it (I think) I decided to head towards the Chelsea Market which was another 10m walk.

I really, really enjoyed the Chelsea Market. Maybe because it was all indoors and away from the freezing cold…I’m just kidding, I would have loved it here even if it had been 80 degrees and sunny out. πŸ˜‰

There were so many unique stores and eateries here! I even found a Khmer sandwich shop…even though their menu didn’t seem all that authentic to me…I was still happy to see something for the Khmer people. Unlike in Vegas where there’s absolutely nothing for us.

“Num Pang” means bread so their shop name translates to “Bread Sandwich” which is a bit silly to me.

I didn’t eat anything at the Chelsea Market, even though I wanted to try everything. I had my heart set on finding a place to eat in Chinatown.

It was another 10m to walk to get there.

On my way there, I passed an Insomnia Cookies which boyfriend and I used to be obsessed with in MN.

I almost grabbed one but I needed to avoid dairy since I didn’t want a messed up stomach while walking around all day.

I knew I had made it to Chinatown when I saw the green pharmacy with Chinese characters.

I walked around, stopped at a few shops, and then when I felt like my hands were about to fall off from the cold and my tummy was growling–I desperately searched for a place to eat.

In mere seconds, I looked over my shoulder and saw Red Egg.

I ran in and there were no other customers except me!

It was almost 4p but they still had their lunch special going. Yay! My whole meal was only $10 and some change.

I ordered the Chicken & Eggplant in Garlic Sauce with Hot & Sour soup, brown rice, and hot tea. It was so very yummy.

When I was done filling my tummy up, I went on the train towards the Museum of Modern Art. They have free admission on Fridays from 4p-9p so I had to check it out.

When I got off the train it was a short walk to get to the museum.

There were a ton of people walking in the same direction as me. They knew about the free night, too.

When I walked in, the place was crowded and hectic. It was quick to get our free ticket but much harder to move around, read, and actually see the artwork and photographs.

I managed to work my way through all 5 levels of art but didn’t really get to actually learn about any of the work or artists. I couldn’t stand all of the shoving and smooshing.

I got a tiny glimpse of Vincent Van Gogh’s famous Starry Night but there was the largest mob of people around it. People who probably only came to take that one photo and only saw it through their screens.

I got myself out of there as soon as I was done with the 5th level of art.

I made the short walk to Times Square to find the TKTS Booth where they sell discounted Broadway tickets.

I had to decide between The Waitress, School of Rock, and Kinky Boots. I remembered Mia’s lovely review of it so I decided on Kinky Boots!

The show was beyond amazing though I feel some of the choreography was a tiny bit off and I thought it was weird how their mini microphones were in the middle of their foreheads…it made them look like aliens, lol.

The theatre was beautiful and I got a wonderful seat in the middle of the 4th row in the Orchestra section.

When the show was over, I called an Uber because I didn’t want to take a train at 11p. It took my Uber so long to get through the Times Square traffic, I regretted not taking the train until I realized the actors came out to autograph our playbills.

I only wanted an autograph from J. Harrison Ghee the beautiful actor who played Lola and I got it!!!

After I got the autograph, I separated myself from the huge crowd to wait on the curb for my Uber. I saw the other main characters come out for photos and autographs while I waited.

On my 4th day, I paid my hotel to let me stay until 3p (their checkout time was 11a) because I just wanted to sleep all day and get on the plane. I was so done with the cold and all of the walking. My phone told me I walked over 21,000 steps every day I was in New York.

I checked out at 2p because there was this small pop-up ramen shack, Go Ramen! Go Life!, I wanted to try right around the corner from my hotel. (I stayed at the Giorgio Hotel in Long Island City, by the way, and I highly recommend it.)

It’s called a pop-up shack because they make their hours different every day and you have to check their social media to see when they’re actually open.

It was so cute and tiny in there. Even a bit smaller than Okonomi.

I ordered the Brooklyn Blend. It was good but….still not better than my favorite spot here in Vegas.

When I finished eating, I went on the journey to find the airport and correct terminal I needed to be in.

When I knew I was getting close to my last train, I saw a cute little restaurant called Beijing Dumplings so I stopped in for a Green Bubble Tea.

I made it onto the last train, the Air Train to Terminal 5, after a few lovely pedestrians helped me find it.

When I checked in and made it through TSA it was 3h before my flight. I shopped around the souvenir stores a little and was so excited to just relax and wait for my plane home.

I spent the whole 3h of waiting putting this post together and when I got home, it was all gone. I didn’t save it properly and all of my photos didn’t upload because I ran out of storage…I was so mad!! But my anger didn’t last long because I was too happy to be home with my babies.

On the flight, I was by the sweetest elderly couple. I watched 2 1/2 movies, some Forensic Files, and Snapped: Killer Couples before we landed. I love JetBlue Airlines, it was such a nice flight.

My boyfriend met me in the airport with beautiful flowers. ❀ I was so happy to see him and to finally be home sweet home!!!

I hope you guys enjoyed my trip to New York posts! I’ll have one more post of all of the knick knacks and souvenirs I bought from there and then I’ll be back to my regular blogging schedule. πŸ™‚

    1. I was surprised no other customers were in it either. One other couple did come in while I was eating, though. Chinatown’s always have the best food at the lowest prices–I really hope you get to visit one someday. ❀

  2. Oh my god this trip sounds AMAZING (and you’re brave as hell tackling it alone, travelling alone moderately terrifies me lol) – I’m glad you enjoyed Kinky Boots (and im glad you notices the choreography too!). Love all your photos xx

    1. It really was an amazing trip. πŸ˜€ Thank you, I was nervous at first but the traveling alone wasn’t scary at all…the sleeping alone part was the hardest for me. I definitely noticed the choreography was off, I started to think one of the ensemble members was drunk. Thank you for reading!! πŸ˜€

  3. omg you sure did so much walking! πŸ˜€ I’m kind of hoping I get to do that walking in my upcoming trip to seattle LOL.. and serious question, how cold is it over there at this time of year?!
ha “bread sandwich” does sound a bit silly, then again, a lot of things don’t translate quite well into english, lol.ok the chicken and eggplants in garlic sauce actually looks pretty freaking decent πŸ™‚
ok, can I just say, good thing you called an uber because if you’d have gone on the train instead of waiting for the uber, you would have NEVER gotten those autographs, WIN!
I’m glad you had and enjoyed yourself and did so many things! πŸ™‚ I bet your pets and your boyfriend are ecstatic to have you home!

    1. Seattle is huge, you will do a lot of walking and expect a lot of it to be UPHILL! Pike’s Place is so freaking cute, you’ll love it. You’ll love all of Seattle!! When are ya headed there?! It was around 25 degrees everyday I was there! Except on day 2, it was around 40.
LOL yeah, I have noticed a lot of things don’t translate well into English, it’s silly. The chicken was really good!! πŸ˜€
and I agree!! I was so excited that I got the autograph and to see and hear them talk outside of their performance!
Thank you for reading about my trip, Rossy! πŸ˜€ I did have a lot of fun!! And they might be ecstatic but not as ecstatic as I am to be home with them. πŸ˜‰ ❀

      1. I’ve been there before but Alex hasn’t, and besides, last time I was there was…idk, 10 years ago?! LOL
I remember liking it, at least I had some pretty good memories over there with the family πŸ™‚ I wish I still had those pictures 😦
We are not sure yet, we planned on going during spring break, but we may end up pushing the dates to April because we want to make sure weather is okay.
Oh my, that’s cold! Well glad you’re back, I bet it’s far warmer in Vegas haha

        1. Ah, the 6months I lived there–it was all winter time. I bet the summer there is much nicer! You guys are gonna have a blast! πŸ˜€
Lol yess, it’s almost 80 degrees here during the day but still a little chilly at night (40-50).

          1. Ah yeah, winter sucks in the PNW haha and we plan on going during spring time, possibly April. That way we can have the freedom to go to the beach over the summer. Our summer will most likely be full of activities lol
Oh okay, 40-50 is typical weather over here right now lol

              1. Sometimes it’s sunny but sometimes it rains out of nowhere so it’s a little hard to say haha. Lately we haven’t gotten rain so I’m assuming that it may be good weather when spring comes.
And just the ones here in Oregon. We went to Lincoln city last year and that was fun. Maybe go further down to Newport. Who knows. I really wanna go to the sea lion caves too but that’s not until fall lol

                1. Haha, I remember when I lived in Washington I used to joke about how the sidewalk never even has time to dry before it rained again!
I hope it’s good weather!! Let me know. πŸ˜€ Maybe my boyfriend and I will make a trip to Portland??
Sea lion caves?! That sounds awesome! Haha

                  1. It used to rain all the time here too but not so much now (global warming lol)
Will do, it’s very beautiful over here when spring comes around. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom for two weeks and then the flowers at the park start blooming afterward lol.
And you mean make a trip in the spring?! That’d be awesome! 😁
Yeah I hope I get to go this year

                    1. Oh no, that’s bad to hear! I’m so scared of global warming.
Ahh, I would love to see the cherry blossoms! & yeah, the tickets to Portland aren’t super expensive in March & I was thinking of a small trip for Boyfriend’s bday (03/21). πŸ™‚ I think Portland would be super fun!
I hope you get to go, too! πŸ˜„

                    2. Yeah, it’s a scary thing. Lots of unfortunate natural catastrophes can happen at literally any time.
Ooooohhh πŸ˜€ Let me know if you do end up coming, I’d love to hang out ;D Nice! That’s actually around the time when the cherry blossoms start blooming! And I’m not so sure what kind of things you’d like to do, or what foods you guys may want to eat, but I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction LOL

                    3. I know…natural disasters are the scariest!
Yes, yes! I told my bf if we go to Portland, we might have a double date to go to. πŸ˜‰ How long do the cherry blossoms last until?? Late April?
I’m into all kinds of things & all types of food!! I really love museums & Asian food the most. πŸ˜› I know you’ll point us in the right direction!

                    4. Haha and what did he say?! I should tell Alex the same thing, except I’ll have two dates, Alex and Ciel πŸ˜‰ but don’t worry he usually does pretty good lol. And unfortunately the cherry blossoms last roughly two weeks before their petals completely fall off 😣 two years ago when they had bloomed, we ended up getting a wind storm so they only lasted like a week 😭 lol
Oh there’s the Portland Art Museum and I believe there’s a few others around the area, I’ve been to other smaller ones and they were really nice, though their exhibits change.
Ahh, I don’t know many Asian restaurants besides a Thai and Japanese (one of my faves obviously) but I’ll have a look around haha. I can’t suggest where the best Pho in Portland is since I still haven’t had some but I might just look that up and see what comes up lol

                    5. Aww, that’s okay!! Kiddos are cool with me. πŸ˜€ Ugh…March is a busy month here in Vegas so I don’t wanna miss out on it. We’d make a little trip in April if I can get my taxes paid off but I’m sad if the cherry blossoms wouldn’t be there anymore. πŸ˜₯
I like museums like “History of Portland” more than art ones but I’d be willing to check an Art museum out, too.
                      I like Japanese & Thai!! πŸ˜‰

                    6. Might as well wait till April so you can work and get that money πŸ˜‰ that’s okay, I make it a thing to go to the waterfront yearly to take photos of the cherry blossoms anyway and I post those pictures here 😊
In terms of history museums, probably the oregon trail museum lmao
Yay! I’ll be sure to let you know of a few spots whenever you come then 😊

                    8. Yay that’s awesome. πŸ˜€ I would be your cat sitter but you’d have to bring them haha
And yeah, I’ve never been but I really have been wanting to because I remember learning about it in fourth grade LOL. We also have a historic area in Oregon City (which is like 10 mins south from me) and there’s a “tower”/ elevator, the McLoughlin House and the Museum of the Oregon Territory which I went to but for a party on their ballroom upstairs. Alex said he talked to the guy in reception and that it sounded pretty cool.
Oooooohh!! And I hear the elevator and the McLoughlin House are haunted because the house was moved from its original location–citizens wanted to preserve the house because it was going to get demolished, so they turned it into a museum LOL. I’m not too sure about the elevator’s history but it’s all so very intriguing and it’s often something people forget lol.

                    9. Lol! Yeah… that’s the problem. We don’t have anyone here in Vegas… if I was in MN, my sister or something would be able to watch them.
I don’t wanna go if it’s haunted. 😦 lol but it does sound really cool…

                    10. True. Same with me. Can’t go anywhere without a babysitter lol. Although I have family here they all have their own* families so it’s kind of hard to ask if they mind watching an extra kid lol.
Awh only the McLoughlin house and the elevator are haunted (that I know of) but not the other museums lol
