Trypophobia

I didn’t know that this was a real phobia until I was scrolling through FB one day and saw a horrid collage of photos. I tried to scroll fast past it and then I saw the title was something like “Photos A Trypophobic Would Hate”! I scrolled back up because I was like, “I hated those photos…” and then, I wanted to throw up just seeing the photos again. I showed my boyfriend and he didn’t think the photos were disgusting like I did!

I used to try to describe this phobia to people all the time. I’d tell them I hate circles or polka dots and no one would understand. It’s not like I actually hate circles because if there’s only one single circle or something is shaped like a circle, that’s fine. I don’t know. There was this putty video where they squished this gray putty-type substance with this checkered stencil and I guess it was supposed to be satisfying to watch, some of you may know the video I’m talking about, but I’m trypophobic, and I hate that video!!

Please, look up this phobia on your own if you don’t know what I’m talking about because I can’t even bare to look it up to link you guys to an article and I’m def not putting an example picture on my blog. I don’t even know if I’ve spelled it correctly– I won’t spell-check it on Google either; I’m scared of the photos that may show up. I already have a serious case of the heebie-jeebies right now thinking about it.

  1. Hunida, I think I’m trypophobia, too. A single circle or even a collection of relatively large circles are totally fine with me, but when it comes to them being smaller… nope. I cannot stand it. It literally gives me creeps. Have you ever seen cod roe? In Japan, there’s a pasta sauce using spicy cod roe mixed with some mayonnaise. It’s actually pretty good, but when making the sauce, it always makes me feel sick a bit. Ughhh… CRINGE!!

    1. Noriko, I just Googled cod roe and almost died!! A lot of people eat salmon eggs or caviar just like that here and they don’t even mix it into a sauce. Sometimes they put it on top of Sushi and I just can’t eat it. 😭 I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one who cringes at this type of stuff!

  2. This is actually common, and there’s been quite a few articles on Buzzfeed lately about this. There was one that was like “I bet you can’t get through all of these photos” or something like that, but it honestly had no effect on me. I discovered that I am not trypophobic at all. In fact, I actually really like looking at the honeycombs that bees make. lol

    1. I’m pretty sure it was a BuzzFeed article I scrolled past on FB! It was crazy to me to know that other people have this phobia and that there’s even a name for it! But I can’t imagine looking through a bunch of those photos, I def wouldn’t be able to get through them. Just thinking about the way honeycombs look gives me the goosebumps. 😫

  3. I am sooooo trypophobic!!! Like ewww…the images give me goosebumps even thinking about it. I am happy that people find this disturbing too cause some of my classmates in highschool used to tell me that there was nothing there. All I just tell them is ‘ holes, holes, holes, I DON’T WANT TO SEE THEM’ …ahh… it’s really disgusting 😞

  4. Poor chile , lol. I’ve read some of the articles about this, I also think they have videos with pictures on YouTube. I found that some kind of bothered me while others didn’t at all so I’m not sure what to say about that lol

    1. Yeah when I showed my boyfriend the article, he was like “what’s wrong with you?!” Lol πŸ˜‚ he thinks I’m crazy. But I wonder why only some of them bother you… πŸ€” hmm.
